The audio tracks are the exact same, except that the Curzon UHD has them in true 24-bit, so the options are the same. I think what andreasy was talking about was spreading out mono across more channels in a surround setup and why the mono in 5.1 track was a good idea (debatable) as opposed to a 1.0 or 2.0 mono which limits one's ability to spread/duplicate the sound.
The 2.0 track is the legit, true mono mix just in a dual mono configuration for the film proper (the Curzon and Wim Wender Stiftung logo music are native stereo). It even has the same quirk as the Fox LD where the channels weren't volume matched, so one is slightly louder than the other (the contents are the exact same). |

They're not though, as the spectrograms from ko8ebryant24 I quoted in the other thread show. Here they are again (the Carlotta seems to be less filtered):
Curzon ![]() Carlotta ![]() How did you determine this (that it's not just upconverted from 16-bit)? Last edited by b0b; 08-29-2025 at 10:48 PM. |

I have no idea why so called purists want something in exactly the same way that the movie came out in. One tends to forget, years later, what a movie looked like on a big screen years ago and even then it was not necessarily optimal video or audio wise. Curzon offers a stereo mix as well as a 5.1 audio mix. Now the stereo mix means that for that film the right and left channels are identical. So play back will result in an audio image in between the right and left speakers, creating a phantom audio center image. Now if one wants to hear what it might have sounded like in the theater, then play it in multi-channel stereo. Many 4K discs look and sound a lot better than they did at the theater. Home theater can be used to create almost anything that one wants and is for entertainment purposes, not recreating a necessarily definitive movie experience. For that, one needs to go to the theater and pick and choose which theater one wants. And that can be a highly variable experience.
