Malcolm McDowell and I will likely never be friends because of this movie.
I didn't blame him for getting peeved when you asked him to sign your Caligula DVD because, you probably had other Malcolm McDowell DVD movies in your collection, but you chose to take Caligula instead, a movie that he'd made 38 years ago. He thought you were trying to be deceitful and make fun of him, and he had the right to feel that way. If it was you, how would you feel if somebody asked you to sign their Caligula DVD? You wouldn't be a happy camper either!

Do you not think though that someone who has bought a DVD of Caligula might actually LIKE the movie?

Some people like the movie, and some didn't, the same way for any other film. Out of all the other movies that Malcolm McDowell has made, demonknight picked most negatively, controversial movie of his career which is Caligula to take to the convention for him to sign. Malcolm McDowell may not be too proud of making Caligula, and for someone to ask him to autograph their DVD copy, was like adding fuel to the fire, which was understandable. Every actor has starred in a movie in the past, that they've now regret of making.

Maybe Malcolm McDowell should MAN UP! Face the fact he made the movie and that some people may like it! Is he going to curl into a ball every time someone mentions it?!? Run to his room with his ADULT COLORING BOOKS?

So? Just because it may not be McDowell's most cherished filmmaking experience, that doesn't mean a fan asking to autograph a copy of the DVD is doing so to make fun of him.

Plus, Malcolm has made an unbelievable amount of garbage post-1990. At least "Caligula" will forever be a curiosity and its backstory is fascinating. McDowell started off his career doing a lot of great films, but has mostly switched into paycheck mode later in his career. I mean, he did a made-for-TV "Home Alone" sequel a few years ago. Doesn't get much lower than that. Imagine if someone brought that for him to sign.

This is easy for everybody else to say because, we're not the ones who've starred and portrayed the main character. We're not walking in his shoes to feel and experienced all the negative criticism involving the movie. Malcolm McDowell is the person who have to accept and endure the remaining stigma of Caligula.

Come to think of it, it might be the only McDowell flick in my collection. Except Class of 1999 in that 8 pack.

And I genuinely think the movie is quite good.

Exactly, so stop trying to speak for McDowell. Just because someone told a story of him appearing to be somewhat less than enthused about signing a Caligula DVD, doesn't mean he's a tortured soul because of it.

McDowell needs to get a thick skin since he is a merciless trash talker. He worked with a German actor in the Halloween remake and constantly kept calling the guy a "Nazi"

Besides the fact that it's uncool to call a younger German who had nothing to do with Nazism, a Nazi -- the guy is openly gay and since gays were one of the minorities who were persecuted by that regime -- it's pretty certain he wasn't a sympathizer.

So if you want to dish is out --then learn to take it. To the extent that being reminded that you made a bad movie is "taking it"

The way it played out in the Zombieween BTS doc, it was clearly done in jest between McDowell and Udo Kier (the German actor in question).

If Udo was really offended by McDowell's comments, shit would've gotten FUBAR between them behind the scenes, but that's clearly not how things went.

So if Kier has a sense of humor about being called a Nazi -- how hard can it be to sign a Blu-ray case of your "lesser" movies? I'm sure he'll survive the whole trauma.

I'm speaking for him, and nobody is a tortured soul until they have passed away, and crossed over into eternal damnation according to the life they had lived while here on earth.
