For me personally JP series is of the most revolutionary films ever made, and I cant describe you guys how disappointed I was seeing films like that got just mediocre BD transfers. Because of that I'm not expecting to be blow away with UHD transfers, but at least I hope UHD discs will be better compared to BD releases (I dont want additional DNR).

So why people complaining about the 2011 transfer being used for the 4k remaster when it's the better looking version of the two?

The 2013 3D release used a new 4K transfer but as that comparison video clearly shows the colours were very different and not to everyone’s liking plus I believe it had DNR applied to smooth out the grain so again not a great release. Fingers crossed Jurassic Park is finally getting the treatment it deserves with the UHD. |

A whole week before release Zoom have just pre-authorised the payment for my JP steelbooks. Oh man I’d love to get these early.

For it to be 4K in your MA transaction history you needed to redeem AFTER it went 4K on iTunes

I don't know if you knew this, but that guy in San Diego is the movie's screenwriter, David Koepp.

This ranking of imaginary characters being eaten alive shows how the filmmakers' narrative and production choices shape our attitudes and opinions towards onscreen violence.
Spielberg frames Gennero's death around his being a greedy lawyer who abandons children at a moment of crisis. So while we might chalk it up to genre karma the shot composition (Rex towering over Gennero in LS), editing(LS to dolly in onto Gennero wiping his eyes back to Rex attacking in LS), and sound (Gennero's horrifying scream) it still resonates intensely and raises the stakes for the main characters when the Rex steps back into the majority of the frame's foreground. But in JW, Trevorrow gives us two scenes of the self-absorbed assistant (a lollipop to anyone that can remember her name without using IMDB) planning her wedding over her phone while not paying attention to poorly written children who we don't care about. Then dispatches her in a lengthy sequence edited from the kids' gaze POV. So the audience are really just bystanders as we watch this "character" get drowned while waiting for the Masosaurus to inevitably gobble her and the Teradactyl up. After which the kids exchange a "wow" look before BDH and Chris Pratt find them and never mention the assistant again. The whole thing just comes across as cruel because they invested more in her death scene than her character. Sure it's meta on the horror genre level. We bought our tickets to see dinosaurs eat people for thrills, but it just seems un-earned. At least Gennero got a good hour for us to dislike him so when he does die, we at least understand the violence inflicted on him is awful, and don't want that to happen to the characters we do care about. I guess another way to put it would be the filmmakers don't respect the violence they display on screen. Although, JW is a pretty stupid movie. I enjoy it on a technical presentation/guilty pleasure level. It probably doesn't deserve this kind of scrutiny. Just a side note, I really like JP's 3D conversion. Really great sound mix to go along with it too. |
