I notice a wider black bar on the top and bottom of my screen when I turn off all the safety features like "Wide Zoom" and "Side Mask" and switch the screen size from Auto to Dot-by-Dot.

Like I said earlier, activate all your safety features in the options section and set the tv screen size on the remote to Auto.

Well I tried doing it AV first then Oppo then Kuro and it froze for the first time since I changed the order to AV, Kuro, then Oppo. So a no go on that one. For some reason the Kuro and Oppo don't want to play nice when it comes to the order they turn on. At least it works the way I've been doing it. Myabe it will be in a firmware update. Thanks for sharing that though. I wish it would have worked.

This is one of the reasons why it's beneficial and convenient to have a Pioneer display and Pioneer bd player with their Precision Quartz Locking system and they both work together in harmony. You can set the Pio bd player up so it works specifically with a Pio display like their Pioneer PDP option.

Check out this picture that someone else posted at AVS. He compared a 500m, a Panny 58V10 and a Samsung 50 B860. Wow! Great pic.

Just got my Pioneer 101 calibrated by David Abrams and all I can say is "WOW."

It looks amazing. I found his name in this forum a few months back and I'm only sorry I waited this long. Highly recommended. Very nice guy and does amazing work.

I haven't watched The Dark Knight since the theatre. I've been waiting for the new TV and then I waited for the calibration and I'm glad I did. Tomorrow night is movie night in this house!

Pioneer PRO-101FD and PDP-6020FD pricing info at some Best Buy stores, plus other pricing info

Back in 2008 the original list price for the 50 inch Pioneer PRO-101FD was $5,500 plus $200 for the KRP-TS02 table top stand. Best Buy in early 2010 started placing the display in Magnolia sections of the Best Buy stores around the country (Some users report that some Best Buy stores with Magnolia sections had them on display in late 2009). Within the last several months Best Buy has been clearing out of new PRO-101FD’s for $2,999.86. Currently almost all Best Buy stores nationwide are out of stock on the PRO-101FD including Best Buy warehouses.

My local Best Buy informed me that the Best Buy warehouse in my state is completely out of stock on the PRO-101FD’s and they will not be getting anymore in from Pioneer. My local Best Buy store only had an open box/floor model left with a price of $2,199.86. The Best Buy sales associate I spoke with informed me that if I wanted the PRO-101FD floor model that he would sell it to me for $1,999 plus he would throw in a $200 Pioneer KRP-TS02 table top stand for free. On top of that he mentioned that if I were to purchase any open box or floor model item from Best Buy with a Best Buy charge card I would get 10% off the purchase. So he was offering me a floor model Pioneer PRO-101FD with KRP-TS02 table top stand for $1800. That is a good deal. I am not in the market for any more displays right now but I thought I would pass the information on since there are most likely a few Best Buy stores nationwide that still have Pioneer PRO-101FD display models for sell. Personally I do not like buying floor models but for $1,800 it was temping to get as a spare. Now if the price was $1,500 or lower I would really be interested. Some people on this thread have so many Pioneer plasmas in their house for their family members that the only place they have left to place another Pioneer is in the air conditioned dog house (Dog’s might like watching animal planet in HD on a Pioneer Kuro).

I see used PRO-101FD’s are selling for $3,199 on Amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-Elite-Signature-PRO-101FD-Plasma/dp/B001HDWYX0/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1282897854&sr =1-1

My local Best Buy has been out of stock on the top of the line 60 inch Pioneer PRO-141FD since around late January of this year. Also as far as I am aware no more Best Buys nationwide have the PRO-141FD in stock. Original 2008 list price on the PRO-141FD was $7,000 plus $400 for the KRP-TS01 table top stand. Best Buy nationwide cleared out of new and used PRO-141FD’s for around $3,799.86 during the first quarter of 2010. I see Amazon dealers are selling used PRO-141FD’s for $9,999.99 (sometimes new ones for that price also, or higher than $10,000).

http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-PRO-141FD-plasma-widescreen/dp/B001HDV3U0/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1282898253&sr =1-1

Best Buy has been out of stock on the 60 inch Pioneer PDP-6020FD plasma displays for several months. I was very surprised that just recently some Best Buys including my local Best Buy located some brand new PDP-6020FD’s and some open box/display models. Back in 2008 the PDP-6020FD list price was $5,500. Now Best Buy is clearing new ones out for only $2,799.86. Display models and open box PDP-6020FD’s are selling for $1,999.86. Also as mentioned earlier if you charge a floor model or open box item on a Best Buy credit card they give you 10% off the price. So some people that can locate a display model or open box PDP-6020FD will be able to get one for only $1,800.

New Pioneer PDP-6020FD’s are selling between $5,699.99-$5,799 on Amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-PDP-6020FD-60-Inch-Class-Plasma/dp/B001AAQTXQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1282899297&sr =1-1

Thanks for the update HD. Kuros are indeed becoming a rarity, especially the 60" models. Best Buy still has some 101s left, but only a few locations have any in stock. Unfortunately they only ship from local warehouses so you have to live in or travel to the area to purchase it. I've seen NIB prices from $2300 to $3000, and open box items can be talked down, especially if you open a credit card or buy their protection plan.

Right now they are selling for a premium. If Panny comes out with a better set in 2011, their values will drop like a rock. However, there is still no indication whether they will or not. I keep hearing that they've purchased Kuro tech and they're "on track" to surpass the Kuro, but at this point it's all speculation.

Personally I believe the 2011 Pannys will come close, but not equal or surpass the 9G Kuros. They will probably measure closer to the 8G Kuros to be honest, especially if they continue to push the 3D tech. HOPEFULLY they will get the MLL rise under control as well.

Hi guys, I'm having some picture issues with my 500M. It seems just about everytime I turn on my 500M I get these black verticle streaks on the screen as soon as I power the set on but they go away as soon as the TV picture appears. It has been happening for a couple of months now. I keep telling my self it will go away but it doesn't. I called Pioneer today to see what they would say but they gave me the # of an Authorized repair center. They didn't even ask what the problem was. My warranty is up in Oct so I want to get this looked at pretty soon. Has anyone else experienced this with their Kuro?

If it goes away after the picture appears it might be just a HDMI handshaking issue or something in the source material of the connected device. Try a different HDMI input to see if it occurs on other inputs. If it is only happening with the HD cable/satellite box and not on the Blu-ray player then I would not worry.

You can also try using the master power button or unplugging the monitor from the power outlet for about 1 minutes to power cycle it. If it is not effecting picture quality in program material I would not worry about it too much. If you are still getting black streaks after unplugging the power cord and after trying other HDMI input or HDMI sources then maybe there is a minor issue going on. Personally I have not seen black streaks on Pioneer plasmas when turning them on but I do not own the 500M either.

Also try placing the 500M on a input without nothing conencted to it. For example place it on the component video input mode if there is nothing connected to that jack and then turn off and on the Pionner plasma for a few times to see if you are still getting the vertical black streaks. If the black streaks no longer occur then the problem is not with the monitor producing the black streaks but it has something to do with the source material of a external device while doing HDMI handshaking (A/V receiver, Blu-ray player, etc).

Thanks HDTV, I will try those things you suggested. I would just hate to not have it looked at before the warranty is up in Oct and end up being stuck with the repair bill

Sarge, do you mean that these vertical streaks remain on a blank screen until you actually turn on and play content from your cable box/blu ray player, or do you mean that the streaks only last for a second or so, when you first power on the tv? If it's the latter, I'm almost postive it's normal operation of the panel as it powers up. When I first power on my 101fd (which is nearly the same tv as your model) with the remote, there is a 1-2 second delay, followed by a split second or so of something that resembles 'streaks' as the pixels fire up. It's almost blink-and-you'll-miss, and not even really noticeable unless you're close to the screen. If that's not what you're referring to apologies.

Is it like a somewhat black screen with a darker spot in the center, then the dark spot kind of moves to cover the screen and then the whole screen turns totally black? If that is what is happening on yours, then I don't think it is a problem. My 500m did that, and now my 101 (to a lesser extent) also does this. My girlfriend has asked me before if there is something wrong with it because it is doing that. I can't remember where I read it, but it seems to be normal. So I wouldn't worry about it unless it is visible when the display is showing an image.

Hi Alkaline, it's the 2nd thing you said. The streaks last for a second before the picture appears and then they go away. So you don't think I should look into getting it serviced? I have never heard of this happening before on this forum or the other one. Thanks

Hi scweb, yeah it's kinda like what you are describing but if you can remember where you read that it's a normal operation could you post a link? I'd really appreciate it

If your talking about it spreading vertically amoungst the screen and not individual vertical lines, then I've had the same thing happen on mine a dozen times or so. It's always right when I turn the Kuro on. I haven't had any other issues so I hope it isn't one.

Mine has pretty much done this from day one (that I can remember), thus I never really worried about it since it happens only for a second or less and doesn't occur at any other time. I always just assumed it's what these 9g Kuros 'do' when the screen first activates. I honestly don't think you have any cause for concern, especially if your panel doesn't exhibit any other 'symptoms'.
