Well I watched half of Jurassic Park tonight (UHD 4K) and I'm very impressed. There is a marked uptick in detail, colours and HDR is noticeable in some scenes. I would equate the improvement almost equal to the 4K UHD of Universals "The Mummy" (1999). I'm definitely pleased so far as it is a big improvement. I haven't had a chance to look at the other discs, but I'm expecting the same level of improvement or more!

Cobra
So there's still hope , thank you and I'm waiting for TLW impressions as well .

I watched half of the 4k iTunes last night and my experience is mixed.
There is some nice uptick in detail but the colors seem so dull and muted to me.
It gets the dreaded - if you didn't tell me it was 4k, I'd never know.
It looks good but I was expecting much more.
It will be interesting what everyone thinks of the 4k Blu-Ray when it comes out.

I wouldn’t be surprised if that happens but it’s still just an assumption. Stacked discs suck but it’s still a step above cardboard.

No offense but people need to judge 4k digital by 4K digital standards...not 4K blu-ray standards.
Digital is compressed as ****.

If it approaches quality of the first Mummy transfer, I can't imagine it to not look amazing.

Ah, great! Zoom has charged my card and sent JP1 Steelbook to the warehouse. Should have it by the end of the week

IMO Jurassic Park first BD transfer was artificially colorful like masters from DVD era. If UHD colors will look more muted and more natural at the same time (for example like in the independence day 1 UHD disc), I will be happy .

Zoom always charges a few days before release date (for me usually Monday) and post it out on the Friday (sometimes Thursday) and I get it by Saturday (and if things go right sometimes Friday). That’s why I love ordering things from them, always get things early.

I'm a regular Zoom customer also because of the good prices (especially when compared to those in my own country).

No offense, I've seen plenty of 4k digital transfers and can come away with a good impression on how good the 4k Blu-Ray will be.

The issues I had with Jurassic Park had zero to do with compression.

Back to the movie, I still love...

Dennis talking to the boat captain while a progress meter is advancing at the bottom of the window.

And not sure how it was in the book but how does Dennis Nedrey (sp?) think he can get away with it? Samuel Jackson knew within minutes something was up. If he survived the island, he would have been arrested immediately.

if they've toned down the eye searing orange tinged skin colors on the 3D transfer, I'll be down with that.

It's not really worth paying all that money for one amazing movie and 3 crap movies.

Decided to just cancel pre-order despite my curiosity. I really wanted to see Jurassic Park and The Lost World with new transfers, but I think I'd rather not pay to own the other two films and bad packaging to find out what they look like. I've waited years for a better release of JP, I can stand another chunk of the year to see if individual releases come out. I would never watch III and Jurassic World on UHD anyway, so the discs might as well have been drink coasters along with the blu-rays they threw in there.

Still eager to see some screencaps just to get an idea of the improvements.

Also same. Just canceled my astoundingly inexpensive Amazon pre-order in favor of Best Buy's steelbook. I don't appreciate its price point, but I'd rather have potentially stacked discs in a steelbook case than cardboard sleeves, not after Universal Classic Monsters. This is probably my favorite film series anyway, so why not go all-in on a steelbook?

Please keep us in the loop with the sequels. I'm particularly interested in The Lost World, being that the Blu-ray is so poor.

All scenes with the jeeps were all especially impressive regarding picture detail and colour (really pop), as well as the outdoor scenes. I felt as if I was watching a completely new movie. The beginning scene with the Brontosaurus is excellent, however the scene overlooking the swamp with a variety of dinosaurs remains just so so.

The white lettering on the jeeps tires was crystal clear and the colour of the jeeps seemed to be "more". As well facial texture, colour and detail is marketably much better in my opinion.

I feel there is some evidence of EE but it's very limited.

Please let's not forget, I in no way consider myself having the ability that some on this forum demonstrate, that having professional movie video critiquing capabilities, but I do know when a 4K disk looks awesome, great and mediocre and this Jurassic Park so far is "great-awsesome", but again I'm only half way through it!
