I didn't read the article but yesterday I did see a headline that said something about how older movies playing in theaters is starting to get more traction than ever before. So yeah, this is a big W for someone like me who gets out to these things as much as possible.

I love watching older films in theatres. While it's not a 1:1 of how it was presented originally, it does make me appreciate the time more of when they were made and really highlights how much more of an audible experience films have become.

I was looking to get a ticket for the re-release of TMNT.

I thought it would, but apparently AMC A-List does not seem to cover Fathom event screening tickets.

Strange...

Yeah I often avoid Fathom events for this reason (also the quality can be hit or miss with their screenings).

I’d be tempted to pay for this, but I’m hearing it’s an old DCP and not the new 4K remaster which is pretty dumb.

It is the old DCP sadly. But, a lot of people don't seem to care. I found it to be much better than when they showed it in 2020. But it is still just the 1080 streamer, with lackluster contrast, soft details and a good bit of DNR. The standard blu ray we have fares much better in comparison but it was still an enjoyable experience overall.

Hopefully when they show Secret of the Ooze, it will be the new 4K. There will be no excuses then.

Just FYI, DCPs are not streamed. The files are enormous.

Yes. It is still the streaming version of the film. There are differences between that version and the blu ray transfer, as I already mentioned.

I'm guessing you saw the headline of The New York Times article:

Hollywood’s Newest Formula for Success: Rereleasing Old Movies
https://www.nytimes.com/2025/08/22/m...ws-casper.html

It can also be read for free on Fathom's website and archive.today.

I saw it in a theater last week and the minimal amount of grain was what made me think I wasn't watching the same print as what I saw in a theater when it first came out. I still enjoyed the experience and certain scenes like the introduction of Shredder and the turtles fighting Shredder on the rooftop just hit differently on the big screen than on TV. I'll definitely be seeing the second movie in a theater when it's re-released next year.

That sucks it's a stream and not DCP. I remember Home Alone looked particularly bad on the big screen with some visible artifacts though it was still fun to see it in a theater again. Even streaming a good blu can be fine. I've been to arthouse screenings where the blu ray was used as the source and they looked fine. A movie like Chopping Mall was just so fun to see in a theater.

It is a DCP. What they are saying is that there are differences in the theatrical version and the version that was used for streaming.

So is Fathom showing the old crusty 1080p transfer or the newer transfer that was on Paramount+ for a while?

What are the odds we get any single releases of this from Arrow? I really just want the first film.

And wouldn't it be cool if we got some of the animated series as a bonus!?

I can see them releasing 1 individually.

2 and 3, I don't know.

That would be nice, but since Paramount didn't even bother to restore the live-action trilogy themselves, I doubt Nickelodeon would do the same for the series. They're far more interested in newer fare, instead of revisiting the past...no matter how much folks love it.

Absurdity is not the issue. Boring is. It's a complete step down, feels nothing like the first one (which felt like the Mirage comic brought to life, 2 feels like the cartoon was put on the big screen while 3 is the prequel to The Next Mutation), and they did Shredder dirty.

Paramount can't restore films they don't own. Perhaps you meant Warner Bros. And the cartoon looks as good as it ever will. There are no elements to restore.

It's funny because he also turns from a rat to his human form when you complete the NES video game from 1989. Me and my wife had a chuckle with that recently after I completed it off of that recent cowabunga collection.
