One warning: I went to the Fathom thing for the original Ghostbusters this summer and the start time provided by the theater was actually the beginning of a 30-minute preshow that consisted of nothing but an animated graphic about Fathom Events looping silently. Clearly, the advertised showtime should've been a half-hour later. Don't know if this is just a one-time screw-up or what but it was really frustrating.

Why on earth didn't Warner include this interesting and extremely rare interview with Kubrick as a bonus feature?

They included an audio-only hour long interview with Kubrick on the 2001 disc, so why not the one above on The Shining? Maybe it's a rights issue, but whatever the case the bonus features on The Shining somehow feel incomplete after I discovered that this interview exists.

Wow... just listening to the genius speak, I now realize how low my IO is, and how high Kubrick's IQ must be!!!

Looks like it's the same disc, only with a DVD copy and a T-shirt...because you know...that's what we as fans want, a cheap shirt and a DVD copy.

The shirt should read...
"The Shining got released for the forth time on blu-ray and all we got was this lousy T-Shirt."

As you're in the UK: The UK 2016 release (HMV exclusive) marks the premier release on BD in the UK of the extended US cut. US extended cut release is cheap and region free.

so the US Releases have always been the 'extended cut'

what was the uk verisons referring to with 'international cut'?

and so the new 2016 release in the UK is the same disc as the 2007 US release?

There's simply the North American version and then the shorter European version which Kubrick cut after the American version premiered. Personally, I kind of prefer the shorter European version and find it to be more intense.

I prefer the shorter undeniable claustrophobic feel of the shorter cut, but a fan will want both cuts.

Definitely. I own both as well. The European cut just feels like a tighter film, the final cut, as it were. The American version feels like a rough cut almost. A lot of the stuff in the beginning can be really monotonous on repeat viewings.

Oh really? I feel like opposite.
I love the American (longer) cut. I feel I want more when I watched the shorter European cut.

I don't find anything rough about the US version at all I love it for the differences (I'm a Kubrick obsessional), but I just find The Shining to be much more efficient in it's shorter cut, without all the exterior stuff. Thus making it a better horror film.

Maybe not a rough cut, but it feels like the cut before the final cut.

I prefer the shorter cut as well, but own both cuts. Hell, I'd probably even get the third initial theatrical cut with the hospital ending, even though it somewhat ruins the movie.

thanks for the help guys.

i remember watching that longer cut, those scenes stick out to me, i must have saw them on a tv broadcast.

I own the UK blu ray deluxe boxset (2016)

so i should get the UK release, or the original 2007 us release, they're the same transfer correct?

i will look out for the us import, as you've pointed out, its probably cheaper.

was there any differences between the US releases of his other films to the uK ones?

I'm after the 55th anniversary of Spartacus in the UK, i know that edition is great compared to the old crap one.

Interesting.
To each his own.

What scenes in the American cut in particular don't you like?

Personally, I'd hate to watch less Kubrick

A lot of the scenes early on the film become tedious, especially on re-watch and likely Kubrick thought similarly, which is why he cut them.

I guess being a Kubrick film, and the way his work warrants analysis and study, I see the longer cut as giving us more to chew on.

But at the end of the day, I think whichever one you saw first, you probably prefer
