Every time I read the name I hear that voice saying it, "Hi, I'm Chief Master Sergeant William Candy"

"Oooh...it's me!"

Fine film. Way better than Transformers 2 and Star Trek.

"Obviously, Michael Bay had tremendous success following Transformers, in a very short window. Sometimes people like to take time off, but I'm excited about the next installation of the story, in the Terminator idea."
I think he has a man-crush on Michael Bay.....or is extremely envious.

"So, for me, it's terribly exciting to get back out there and show a different face of that idea, and perhaps get out of the apocalyptic world and into a contemporary world."
Whaaaaaaaaat the..........? Here we go again..........

"It's interesting because a lot of people don't like me, but a lot of people just don't like my name. I can't take that too seriously because that's been my name my whole life. It's not something that I prescribed myself."
Maybe if he didn't put his name up in a blinding white light during the opening credits of Terminator, then people wouldn't have known who the director was.

I'm sure he meant well with Salvation, but sadly, I can't see this franchise going anywhere but downhill.

This from another site:

Quote:
"I'm prepping 20,000 Leagues every day, but I'm concurrently prepping Terminator 5–you know, another Terminator picture. So we're cooking that up. And then I'm very active in Spring Awakening also, the musical. So we'll see. But my focus right now is really pushing forward 20,000 Leagues."

As far as I know (even though I liked Terminator Salvation), most people don't really care about the next Terminator sequel, since the last one wasn't really a highlight of the summer. But as a teaser to potentially get a few of you excited about what that next installment might have in store, here's what McG hints at. "So the idea is to play with one of the tried and true rules of the franchise – time travel – and introduce it in this picture. I don't want to share too much, but let's just say it's very, very likely that John Connor is going to end up running through rooms like this where he knows something that none of us know. And I think that is a platform for great storytelling." Some might argue that last point, but I'd love to see some time travel.

Glad to hear about a Terminator 5, although I would have wanted them to continue in the post apocalyptic word. On another note, why is the home release of Salvation taking so long to even be announced in the U.S.? Considering it didn't make as much money as other blockbusters, I thought a September or early October release date would have happened. Is it because of the success it had in the foreign markets or do they want to release it at the height of the holiday shopping?

We're thinking late November release. Not sure why WB is lagging behind Sony in announcing it.

Slashfilm's comments on the interview:

Quote:
IGN also asked McG about the ongoing development of Terminator 5. Here’s some of what he told them:

Quote:
The idea is to play with one of the tried and true rules of the franchise – time travel – and introduce it in this picture. I don’t want to share too much, but let’s just say it’s very, very likely that John Connor is going to end up running through rooms like this where he knows something that none of us know. And we’ll have a much more clearly defined antagonist in the new picture. It will be more of a chase movie with a new Terminator that is on your ass.
Doesn’t sound too bad. According to what we’ve heard already, the destination for John Connor’s time travel will be London circa 2011. And back then, in June, McG was also threatening a large scale invasion from the future:

Quote:
[Skynet] figured out time travel to the degree where they can send more than one naked entity. So you’re going to have hunter killers and transports and harvesters and everything arriving in our time and Connor fighting back with conventional military warfare, which I think is going to be f**king awesome.
Doesn’t seem to mesh entirely with the “clearly defined antagonist”, but that’s not necessarily the case. I remain highly optimistic for the next McG Terminator film - should it ever happen. I’m just sorry that Christian Bale and his daft voice will be involved, and that Jonathan Nolan will probably be dragged along for the ride too.

MORE CONFIRMATION OF A SEQUEL!!

Quote:
Terminator 5 is in the Works

Terminator Salvation director McG confirmed that a sequel is already in the works!
Not much of interest came out of the Teen Choice Awards, but there was some good news for Terminator fans. Director McG, attending as the producer of the Human Target TV series, admitted that a sequel to Terminator Salvation was in the works.

McG announced:

"Yeah, we're working on it right now. We're very far down the line with the story for that – for the next picture, and even the picture after that, and feeling good and we'll see where that takes us. I'm prepping 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea right now and I'm looking at Spring Awakening, but also the notion of the next Terminator – I mean, we're making it. Warners is excited about it. Sony is excited about it. And we can't wait to get back at it and show the world what becomes of that war and how we master time travel because we stayed away from time travel in Salvation and I missed it. We decided it was the right thing to do and we did a lot of things right in that movie and we did many things wrong in that movie. And we'll learn from the experience and we'll grow and I think the next movie is going to be even more exciting and a better film.

When asked about the plot for the sequel, McG said:

"One of the problems is that in a post-apocalyptic world, everybody's a little bummed out because your brother melted... your friends are gone. Everything went haywire. So the idea is to play with one of the tried and true rules of the franchise – time travel – and introduce it in this picture. I don't want to share too much, but let's just say it's very, very likely that John Connor is going to end up running through rooms like this where he knows something that none of us know. And I think that is a platform for great storytelling. Because I always love it when [Kyle] Reese is in our world, as you saw in the first picture, and everybody thinks he's out of his [expletive] mind and he knows and he can't afford to be concerned. And he's got to convince someone he cares about to come with him! And that's one of the engines. And we'll have a much more clearly defined antagonist in the new picture. It will be more of a chase movie with a new Terminator that is on your ass."

McG also admitted that the Terminator TV show, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, probably hurt the film, rather than boosted it, as they had hoped it would:

"That's one of those things that we realized looking over our shoulder. I believe that we can put enough separation into our film construct where the television show would be the television show and the film will be the film. But one could also argue that (Smallville) cannibalized (Superman Returns) to some degree...it's always witchcraft. It's guess work. It's dangerous."

Interesting that he mentions Sony AND Warner both being excited about it.

Of course MGM does still have refusal rights I'm assuming, unless they already passed on it.

I hope they ditch the pre - J Day 2011 idea.

He does have a way with words doesn't he?

From what it says it looks like Bale will travel back in time and a Terminator will be chasing him. I'm open to whatever as long as it makes sense in a trilogy sense.

Very much so

I'm not completely opposed to going back in time for something (though I would like the majority of the film to be set in the current time), as long as it makes sense of course (both for reason of going back and in the grand scheme of the trilogy), I mean don't send Connor back to try and stop J-Day, that would be stupid since he knows it is pointless. If they can come up with a justifiable reason for him going back, like having to maybe retrieve something they need in the future that was lost to them? That would be fine by me.

I hope they are still considering the London story line (whether they be there in the present or past). It sounded interesting.

But what I am absolutely opposed to is PRE-Judgment Day 2011. That is just stupid.

There also needs to be a way for him to get back. It's mind boggling what they would have to explain if they send JC back in time.

That is another problem, him getting back.

Because in 2029 they still don't have the technology to do that.

Again, if they can come up with a good reason for him being able to travel back to the future, ok cool.

But if it is lame or feels like a tacked on idea, just avoid it all together.

What they need to do is come out early in the film with the realization that EVERYTHING is different in this time line and no matter what happens it won't change their future. Untie the cords that bind them

That could work.

I would be able to accept that.

An alternate but similar future, seeing as Judgment Day is inevitable, but they never said the events after it weren't changeable.

They could introduce the time travel early in the film, or even in a prologue that it has been solved since the last film and John now knows he is fighting blind in this war.
