Even vinyl and cassette tapes are still being made.

In fact Emtec re-opened their tape manufacturing plant to fulfill the demand of R2R and cassette industry.

I think you quoted the wrong person Vilya. Everything in your post is a response to Steedeel's post.

The "issues" that you raised have all been debunked and refuted even if you remain unconvinced. When has anything ever convinced you otherwise?

Anything that uses electricity contributes to our carbon footprint. Display screens, the internet, and the streaming that it makes possible are not responsible for greenhouse gases; the electricity that powers them is. If that electricity came from clean renewable sources there would be no greenhouse gases associated with them.

Reducing the use of electricity at home will lessen our personal carbon footprint. The best way to do that is by reducing the use of the things that use the most power, such as your heating and cooling systems and appliances. Reducing usage of TVs will have negligible impact as I have already illustrated several times. It will do little more than if I unplugged the night lights in my home.

It costs less than six cents a day to use my TV. It costs $4.92 per day to run everything else.

If I wanted to reduce the fat intake in my diet, I would start with the most fattening foods, not the least fattening ones.

If a boat were taking on water from two hull leaks, one a pin prick and the other a meter in diameter, most of us would tackle the latter first. You would ignore both and look for a mop instead.
So why are those articles talking about the need to reduce the things I mentioned? Streaming especially.

They're grasping at straws. There are far more articles that talk about reducing your carbon footprint by driving less, carpooling, using your heater and air conditioning less, and turning off lights when you leave a room. All of those things will have a drastically bigger impact.

The internet is a gigantic place with articles on everything. People write about what they think will get the most views, not what makes the most sense.

Why does that EPA website article that I posted that lists the top sources of greenhouse gas emissions make no mention of any of the things that you do? It is because they are insignificant.

The articles that you are relying upon makes it plain that it is the power needed to drive all of those things that is the source of the emissions. Use clean power and there is no issue.

You would reduce your carbon footprint far, far more by adjusting your thermostat, using appliances more efficiently, recycling, and improving the fuel efficiency of your vehicle because all of these are associated with much, much higher carbon emissions.

This isn't rocket science, Wernher Von Braun; what emissions are associated with these things are due to the use of power generated from polluting fossil fuels. Blaming the internet for greenhouse gases makes as little sense as blaming your table lamp; the problem is with the usage of "dirty" electricity.

I am sure that you are not surprised by that fact in the slightest. You kinda remind me of flyry who also only pops in to laugh at our still being here. Some of us are on a sacred mission to save the world from.... not much of anything when you come to think of it.

Our resident Prophet of Doom, HufflePuff The Horrendous, says we are all screwed no matter what we do, so smoke 'em if you got 'em and party like its 1999.

I hope mine last for a very long time. From all that I have read it is still one the best media players except for BD ISO files. Not their fault, a requirement of the BDA .

Have you checked out the Spears & Munsil UHD HDR Benchmark user guide here? More at the bottom of that page.

Read your work summary in another thread and would like to congratulate you for a job well done!

Thank you.

And thanks for that link; I will read it later.

I hijacked the Aladdin 4K thread late last night. See page 19 if anyone else cares to know about what I did to earn a buck. I shared some more stories via PM today as well. There were few people around late last night, so no one even tried to rein me in; the morning shift was not quite as receptive, though.

Edit: It was all deleted; three off topic posts and someone complained and had them removed. My seven posts about median household incomes, though, those were allowed to stay. With so many people reporting each other for any and everything, the mods must feel like they are kindergarten playground supervisors.

Reporting people to mods is pathetic.

Sometimes it is warranted, especially when people get truly vulgar or plainly abusive, but it is hard to understand why some innocuous digressing posts are permitted and others are summarily removed. The mods could at least give you an opportunity to move an off topic post to one of the general chat threads, or move it themselves even, instead of just deleting them with no input from their author.

I put some effort into two of the three posts that were removed and all because I talked about my career in direct response to being asked about it twice. The second such request was allowed to remain making it look as if I could not be bothered to reply. And I make it a point to reply to anyone who asks me anything.

Unless it’s a direct unwarranted attack (or the like), the removal of posts is akin to censorship
