What Made Me Want to See This? Emma Stone!

Another terrific blind buy for me!

Emma Stone gives a terrific performance as Olive Penderghast, a girl who no one really knows at her school until a rumor accidentally starts up. Olive then does the opposite of what most people do with a rumor, and runs with it and begins other rumors, while helping other people out with those rumors.

Extremely funny, fast pace, witty, smart, charming, touching and real. I wasn’t expecting Easy A to be as smartly written as it is, but it is. There are no dumb, gross out gags. This is a smartly written film with plenty of jokes constantly going on. Honestly, I will have to watch this again to catch all the jokes I missed the first time because I was still laughing at a previous joke. Great stuff

The film looks great and sounds great and was well worth the $10 I paid for it (had $10 in amazon credit from trade ins so it that’s why the lower cost) and it is another worthy addition to my collection.

Thomas Haden Church steals every scene he is in as the cool teacher. The reason his character is so awesome is because of his extremely dry delivery of scathing remarks that had me rolling on the floor with laughter. Completely awesome.

And Amanda Bynes playing a super up tight religious fanatic was also great. Sure, some of what Easy A shows us has been done in other films, but Easy A succeeds with the writing, characters and cast by making it feel fresh and new. The best part of Bynes’ character is how she refers to other religions as “sci-fi” and refuses to acknowledge them

The film also has some serious moments as well, which I did not see coming at all and one actually jaw dropping moment where we discover the truth behind one characters indiscretions.

The film also towards the end, pacing wise is a little rushed, which doesn’t make sense since at 88 minutes they weren’t running long with a run time, but it doesn’t ruin the enjoyment of the film at all for me. A great flick that is at least worth a rental, but for big Emma Stone fans, such as myself, definitely worth owning

Recommendation: High

PQ: 4.5/5
AQ: 3.5/5

Technical Score: 4/5
Enjoyment Level Score: 5/5 “loved it”

Final Verdict: 4.5/5

SoI should only MAYBE get this, sounds like bearcat1 only sort of liked it. Expecting a movie the quality of Mean Girls, Heathers and John Tucker Must Die, hope I won't be disappointed.

my feelings could change, but i'd put Mean Girls above Easy A. for now. probably because i've seen Mean Girls a bajillion times and it never gets old. we'll see how often i watch Easy A and enjoy it, so it goes Mean Girls barely over Easy A (which i think is wittier than Mean Girls) and Easy A miles ahead of John Tucker Must Die.

can't even remember Heathers so i'd have to revisit it to rank it.

I probably could of worded it better if it was back in March when I just watched it, I just remeber walking into it having it in my top 10 most anticipated list of the year, and then walking out feeling like it was an entire waste of time

How I feel about the original animated movie, never thought it was worth a crap. Yes I realize it is for children but children's movies can be good, I own at least 20 of them myself.

Bit long-winded and poorly written, nevertheless a fun watch with an outstanding cast, I'd say it's a lot like Die Hard 2. If you enjoyed that one, this one comes highly recommended!

Default Antichrist

I know this is so last week, but i gotta ask one more thing about Antichrist.
One of the last shots of the movie (not the girls coming up the hill, but before that) shows a flashback of the opening sex scene, but this time Gainsburg's character is shown opening her eyes at the same time the boy is falling off the ledge.

What's up with that? Are we to assume she "allowed" it to happen?

i think, maybe, it shows that
[Show spoiler]this is another reason she beats herself up over the incident. i think she blames herself (i think she even says it or they acknowledge it) because she was being "selfish" and banging her husband instead of being their for her child. she even mentions how he's woken up during naps before.

although maybe her eyes opening (does he see the boy on the ledge?) is her realizing the boy may have woken up and thinking "oh capital 'S'! he may be awake" but by then it's too late

not positive though

I remember that conversation, but those end shots seem a little more than symbolic of her guilt. It's presented as reality it seems.

I've been speculating that the kid must represent something. Don't know what. The future maybe? A legacy? Destiny? And it just jumped out the window, and she let it happen. Great.

Then again, you could be right, I don't know. Another viewing might get my mind right.
