Need to research these Nekromantik movies. Never heard of them before but they sound up my alley. If I got Honeymoon Killers it would be the Criterion since I am in the US. No interest in French New Wave stuff at all, so I am spared paying for that huge box set thank god.

Hoping for some good US announcements Thursday!

I'm over the moon with the Rivette announcement, but I do fear that it coming so soon after the Yoshida release might overshadow that one. People expecting Rivette and Battles Without Honor and Humanity to sell out quicker might put off Yoshida until later. And Fran Simeoni has already said that future Japanese releases he has lined up (when I mentioned Somai, Terayama and Wakamatsu he said 'along those lines') are dependent on that selling.

Well, Yoshida's a fair bit cheaper if you look at early bird prices (£45 compared to £75), so I reckon it will actually sell quicker than Rivette...at first at least. I really don't want Rivette to sell out without me getting near it, so I'm begging that Arrow slow down a bit in the new year! Especially in regards to limited edition releases.

Just noticed this on the Arrow Facebook page by the way:

Quote:
Hey guys, we decided to spilt the annoucements up this time as there always seems to be a alot of confusion as to what is UK only and what is UK-US when we announce everything at once. Hopefully doing it this way will make things clearer!
Think that's quite a good way of doing things from now on, although it does make Wednesday a little tense and some UK customers hesitant to impulsively pre-order UK-only titles (to wait and see what Thursday brings before they decide). Still, that's a minor concern.

It's not just the expense of all these new releases that's the problem; now I'm going to have to buy a bigger movie cupboard.

Wow, if they released any Somai I'd be over the moon. Especially Typhoon Club. I'm tempted to buy the Yoshida set, but I'd wish they'd just have released Eros + Massacre separately as that's what I'm interested in. $85 is a lot for me right now.

I'd be surprised for a Yoshida set or a Rivette set to sell out so quickly 3000 copies each.
Sure, we're all very excited around here, but we aren't representative of the general audience, aren't we ?

Getting a new storage case won't be feasible, there's no space anymore on that wall !
Might start simply taking out some movies that I didn't like so much, but that's not going to be so many of them : fortunately, I've been able to avoid buying stuff I ended up not liking !
Also, I have at least 1 shelf I should be able to clean : my book shelf is full, so I put some books on that shelf amongst all my movies.

Anyway.

I can see why they did it, and the films are considered to be an informal trilogy, but I can see where you're coming from as well. As I said, I think it's been released too closely in the schedule to the Rivette (and presumably Fukasaku) sets.

I ran out of shelf space ages ago (5 large Billy bookcases and two shorter ones, all double packed) ages ago. Now all my new purchases are stacked on the floor in front of the TV.

It is like a little Tooms nest in there

Yeah I have that over at the east wing of my mansion. Mine is glass and I have a full time employee to turn the handles for me, wearing a new pair of white gloves each day. I just call him 8, as I find it easier to remember staff by number.

12 wipes down as dusts them individually each afternoon from 3-7pm. If she runs over, the time is deducted from her holiday hours. Harsh? Maybe?

Nah, I'll make a bed out of it. Then a table. Then, probably some walls.

I went a step further when I moved house last year and put all of my DVD's in a couple of these cases from Maplins.

http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/500-cddvd-storage-case-a81gu

I've kept all of my boutique releases and Blu-rays in their packaging, and still have four bookcases full of films, but for the regular stuff I figured it was worth the space saved. I've not regretted it either.

I've just purchased Nekromantik 2 directly from Arrow. There is no way I'm going to Zavvi and miss out due to damaged goods like I did with the first Nekromantik release.

After Zavvi screwing me over, I actually bought Nekromantik 1 & 2 bluray from Cult Epics in the end because I really didn't think that the BBFC would pass Nekromantik 2 uncut.

I guess I'll have to try and sell these new & sealed Cult Epics blurays and find a way on getting the first limited edition Nekromantik.

People worrying about the Rivette selling out fast probably shouldnt be, if you cant buy it before the early bird offer ends (and I cant), wait for the next Arrow sale and snag it when you get double points.

At 84.99 GBP, you will get 1698 points and if you dont use them on sale items, they will be worth 16.98 GBP, making your net overall outlay for the set 68.01 GBP. Snag it now at the early bird price of 74.99 GBP and you will get 749 points which if you dont spend on sale items will be worth 7.49 GBP, making your net overall outlay 67.50 GBP (ie a whole 51p cheaper).
