He really hasn't done anything I've seen since Rush Hour 3, which wasn't that good imo, Jackie Chan looked stunlocked in that movie it seems like they all did it for a studio payday, that was also his first movie in awhile at that time because he became a diva and wanted $20 million per movie (lol) I've heard Ice Cube talk about this when he asked him to do the other two Friday movies. Last time I checked up on him he was having problems not going broke paying off the IRS or something ala Wesley Snipes. In the past 10 something years he was in Silver Linings Playbook (which I have no interest in) and most recently that streaming film about Michael Jordan's shoe deal. I pretty much saw every '90s film this guy did and owned most on VHS/DVD personal favorites are Friday, 5th Element, Money Talks, Jackie Brown. I also can still remember he was in House Party 3, I'm a true fan of the guy.

I'm so happy they reprinted the steelbook. It released when I was in a bit of a lull and not watching for new 4K releases. So I've got the slipcoverless version for like $9.99. Which is nice, but I like to go slip or steel.

Just in case anyone has any doubts, it's the same HDR10 disc that was in the original release. It applies to all these reprints, no new discs.

True, but the FiM encode isn't really the difference maker in this case, it's the underlying master. The Sony one has baked in sharpening.

Yep, it's just a different master/grade in general, though Fidelity encoding is always a nice thing to have.

This is what convinced me to import the Studiocanal disc. I couldn't care less about the encoding as that's not something I notice one way or another. It just surprises me that Sony would release a bad disc. They're known for consistently great scans. As goofy as this film is I think it was still worth double dipping for.

No one said it’s a bad disc, LOL. The Studio Canal is better, yes, but Sony’s is no train wreck.

I think you're asking a legitimate question so I'll try to answer to the best of my ability.

I think from the character's name (Ruby Rhod), Jean-Paul Gaultier's outfit, and Chris Tucker's performance there is a queer sexual subtext Besson is having fun with. The story is about love and desire, so Besson shows versions of this throughout the film regardless of race (male/female/human/alien), color, or sexual preference. I'm not gay so I'm just making a judgement call here.

Finally got the Studio Canal and wow is it a massive improvement. I remember being pessimistic about that back in the day and I'll offer a total mea culpa. Stunning disc with way better color and film look. Happy to have it.

Yep, love the warm/golden look of the Canal disc. The Sony looks way too cold.
