Almost bought it a dozen times, but Dolby Vision just isn't that big a deal on my setup. Still I kinda feel like I lost out now. Arg.

It's still got a betterer encode in general, tho I know such things don't really float your boat.

Trying to push myself to get off my ass and do my Kino v. Arrow Body Snatchers comparison. Then we shall discover how floats me boat on the encoding seas.

Dolby Vision is not so big a deal to me, but I really hated Sony's early UHD menu style. But then their more recent discs have that bonus feature pop-up during credits that is horrible. Also with ST, them not porting the commentary track over to the new disc is perplexing. Sony does so many things right with A/V but manage to go out of their way to muck things up in other ways.

It also hurts that the steelbook cover is awful and I prefer theatrical posters. So I'd have to keep the old disc for the packaging. With Dracula I can sell the old disc with its weirdo slipcover people love, offsetting the cost.

Another perk of backing the discs up. I strip all of the menus from my backups.

Dracula has same art as SteelBook I believe, but has added plus of embossing and glitter. Probably one of my favorite slips. But then the other film from this "universe" was released as a SteelBook from Arrow (MS Frankenstein), so having both on steels is nice.

Where's Wolf?

Starship Troopers SteelBook is ugly. I will eventually move the discs to the UK SteelBook which has the art of the regular edition.

The Steelbook for this looks awful, I've been wanting to grab the standard but it's way too much for me, holding out for a magic 10-12$ price. I've grabbed quite a few Sony titles when they dip that low

I think this release might be out of print. Please Rewind ended their listing not because they were out of stock but because the item was no longer available for sale. It appears to be sold out from pretty much all other online retailers at the moment.

The comic styled artwork for the steelbook actually looks better in person.
Still not my preference but the disc is great.

I think HellDivers 2 success will get it out of print, sooner or later. I also waited on this one too long and didn't get it yet.

Got my hands on the 25th Anniversary 4K steelie and I must say...the original 4K (of which I also own the steelbook of) looked pretty damn great but the redo Sony did is even sweeter in the PQ department.

I also love that the two 4K steelbooks, when put next to each other, tell a story every bit as funny as the movie itself.

does anyone has any scene comparison for the 4K and normal bd? I'm watching the movie for the nth time and there is this shot at Dizzy's funeral where there is more noise than actual picture, I'm guessing these problems have been corrected in the 4K?

I really liked it. It also goes well with the steelbook art for Traitor of Mars.

Also the steelbook is still available for 40 bucks CAD. It dropped to about 29 when I bought it

I might be confused as to which version is which. I did see the other steelbook is on amazon as well but its 128 dollars.

Picked up a copy of the 25th Anniversary steelbook for the superbit encode. I don't normally go for steelbooks but i'm quite pleased with this one, it seems nicely made and the disc comes out easily. I've also ordered the steelbook of Groundhog Day.

Welp... Karate Kid is now getting its second re-do, just for a commentary and some deleted scenes. Guess it's not out of the realm of possibility anymore

Ah, so that's why the Karate Kid thread got bumped. They've redone (re-redone?) the disc to add a NEW commentary and NEW bonus features, not to just port over what's there and drop the Blu-ray which is what you were going on about (and they're not doing with Karate Kid as it comes with a Blu anyway). So...still not the same conspiracy-laden situation you were describing, which still makes no sense to me.

It does however mean that nothing is safe from Sony and that they will keep milking it for as long as they can, but as long as they're adding value each time then it's not a bad thing. I moan so much about the 'one and done' attitude that other studios have (good Christ I'd pay silly money to have Blade Runner and Apollo 13 and ID4 revisited with fat new encodes and OG audio) that it'd be churlish to complain too much about Sony's endless revisits.
