Don't be so sure about that. Mendelson form FORBES believes it will have nice legs. And Pacific Rim 2 looks like garbage. No Del Toro anymore the original cast is nowhere to be seen. Yeah it reeks of a disaster

I wouldn't say that she's my cup of tea either but I have respect for her as an actress and director.

The first 10 minutes of this movie were awesome. I'd LOVE a movie about Alicia Vikander being a bike messenger. She's so, insanely attractive.

Her on that bike + those abs + that leather jacket = all other women are now ruined for me. Nobody can reach that level of attractiveness.

This movie really makes you suspend disbelief, which I have a hard time doing.

So she's just some inner city girl that trains in MMA and is a bike messenger? Yet somehow, in 1-2 weeks time, she's traversing a f***ing jungle and repelling down huge, deep holes. Like, what?! I get she's in shape and muscular from her training, but that wouldn't immediately translate into parachuting while bear hugging a backpack, and climbing up a wet rock wall by the sea.

And somehow, in 1-2 weeks of her studying her dad's notes, she's suddenly a master at all of this? She's able to
[Show spoiler]figure out the combination to open the wall immediately, when a team of people couldn't figure it out for 7 years?! Are you joking?

[Show spoiler]Yeah opening the wall so easily was the dumbest part for sure, especially since the audience didn't even get clued in on what logic she was using to solve it or even how the door operated at all

this is my biggest biggest gripe with this movie and the Jolie movies.
The MAIN premise behind the character, i.e raiding tombs and solving riddles, is completely glossed over/rushed and limited to just a few moments per movie where her solving them makes no sense whatsoever.

Seems like they prioritise Megan Fox in Transformers 1 type shots alongside pointless expendables 1 type action for movies like this. *yawn*

just because the movie copied the new games best sequences, doesnt mean its a faithful representation of the ethos of the character/video games.

Mortal Kombat 1 is more faithful to the source material than this movie and that was made in 1995 for goodness sake.

[Show spoiler] her father's note/puzzle showed her how to solve the wall puzzle. And she solved it on the boat. But i didn't see the point of the wall puzzle. they could have just blown it up.

Did you watch the movie?

[Show spoiler]7 years? They had been at it for less than a day. And the film showed her working on these kind of puzzles even as a child, and more recently the puzzles associated with the island.

Repelling? She held onto a handle and the equipment did the work.
Was there special skill in hugging a backpack and CRASHING into the woods and getting injured?

[Show spoiler]Yeah, I could believe her knowing how to do it--I just wanted the movie to show us what the logic of the puzzle was. Because as it stands, all we saw was her rotating some junk and then it opened lol. I didn't need like a dry ten minute explanation, but at least showing some of the logic would've been more interesting than watching her rotate stuff on a wall for a minute and not knowing what her reasoning is

you play TR 1 and 2 and you are mostly in caves/tombs like 90% of the time.

I wouldnt say this movie is faithful to that.

This movie is based on the 2013 Tomb Raider game, which is not Tomb Raider 1 or 2

It's much more believable than the actual game, to be honest, and it was much like Oliver Queen from the first season of Arrow (which I watched that and played this game during the same time). She had not even picked up a bow and arrow prior to being shipwrecked on the island with her college mates. She was a pampered college girl in that game, but it drove the point forward that her desperate need to survive kicked into overdrive, and by the end of the game, she's completely hardened after going through danger after constant danger and doing what was necessary to get off the island alive. The movie did a great job with setting up that she could take care of herself with hand-to-hand combat and had skills with a bow and arrow to make her character arc a watered down version of all that she went through in the game.

I will be seeing this again at least twice in theaters with MoviePass. I absolutely love this film. I'll probably cry if they don't make another one.

Definitely an enjoyable movie. Personally, it's my favorite video game movie adaptation to date. Tomb Raider was always one of those series that I felt would make a great transition into movies since it's essentially a female Indiana Jones.

As a fan of the newer Tomb Raider reboot games, haven't played the original ones, the movie felt like it took heavily from those which is a good thing. I preferred Vikander's portrayal over Jolie's version of Lara. It's more grounded and real than what I've seen of the older Tomb Raider's.

I think the movie could have focused more on the 2013 game some more than taking things from the 2015 title myself.

This would have provided some more time for developing Lara as a character, but I know that's not really possible when they aren't guaranteed a sequel and need to cram as much as they can into one film instead of spreading it out over several films.

Overall a fun film and I really hope this gets a sequel and that the trend of adapting video game IP's into movies continues. Modern games have a ton of possibilities for great stories.

This is also a movie that may find its audience in the US on home video. It seems most here have at least enjoyed it (I'm seeing it Thursday), so the mixed reviews may have kept many away from theaters that will enjoy it later on a video rental and then be willing to see a sequel in theaters. Americans are VERY influenced by critic reviews and RT scores these days. It's like a total bizarre flip since I was a kid in the 80s-90s-00s when no one gave a rat's ass what critics thought of action films. (You would never know by the love of it in this thread that the original Jolie film is 20% on RT)
