I am not adverse to trying them should they actually offer enough content that interests me and that I do not already own. If I can buy any such content on disc, however, I again have no need of their streaming service. I use streaming to sample and rent content only; ALL content worthy of owning will be purchased on disc without exception. |

The bigger concern is that Disney will make it all but Impossible to enjoy theatrical releases without having seen a tv series on their streaming service. We already know their high profile Marvel shows will tie in with the films released in cinemas. Die hards will of course subscribe and also go to the cinema. Casual film goers are going to be a concern. This really is a unique situation and not good for the future of cinema. At this point, Disney virtually own the theatrical movie going experience with Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm and of course Fox and Disney. |

So I have a satellite dish to receive programming direct from PBS just like the affiliates do. No bug and the quality is fairly good, main streams are 1080i, H.264 at 12 Mbps. Requires a DVB-S2 capable receiver (< $40 on eBay). |

This is why you digital lovers should avoid investing your time and money on these streaming services. One way or another, they will destroy the home cinema experience. |

![]() Every time I see someone at a Redbox kiosk I wonder why they don’t have a DVD(BD) Netflix subscription. This is where that instant gratification everyone is always talking about comes into play. I’d still have mine if it wasn’t so poorly run in my area ![]() Quote:
![]() The Mrs is very excited about this service, but my flatscreen is the only one that the app shows up on. So as Wendell pointed out, unless it pops up I’m not sure if we’ll subscribe initially. I have no doubt it will take off, but I’d like to see what it has to offer once they have a few more shows up. I can’t speak for anywhere else in other parts of United States, but around here satellite seems to be king around here. With the exception of a few houses, they are on practically all houses. As I said before, I have a nice house. So I don’t want it or an antenna slapped on it or my yard. Thankfully our cable is up under the house. Last edited by The_Donster; 08-26-2019 at 03:52 AM. |

I am not anti-social, but if anyone wants to share the experience with me, they need to actually be here. I am not bothered that some millenials do this as it has no impact on what I choose to do. Maybe someday they'll outgrow the need to share every reaction that they have as they have it, but either way, their choice will not change mine. |

I won’t be. All the Disney movies I want I already have on physical and will buy on physical. I’m not interested in TV series anyway.

Satellite dishes that you actually have control over are another matter. I remember when my sister had one of those gigantic ones that you had to aim to acquire different satellite signals; the programming choices available with that monster were immense although aiming the dish could get tedious. The jumbo dishes seemed to be less impacted by bad weather, too. The cheap ones that you get with DirecTV and Dish lose their signal if a cloud casts a shadow over them. In an area like mine where thunderstorms are common, DirecTV and Dish are worthless much of the time. I still feel that any type of dish is a damn eyesore, though. |

The smaller ones are normally for one of two choices - there's Freesat, which is basically just non-subscription based channels, and there's the one I use myself for Sky, which I subscribe to really just for the sports, although you can have a movie subscription too if you wish. However with the Sky dish, you also pick up everything that's available on the Freesat service. The satellite dish I have is larger than the conventional Sky dish, and this has the advantage of a much greater tolerance to bad weather, as you say. In all honesty Vilya, I've very rarely ever had any interruptions with the signal even on heavy downpours. |

Maybe they are renting from Redbox because they appreciate the higher quality offered by disc? Maybe they live in area with lousy internet service? Maybe they do have Netflix, but find the selection to be underwhelming? Netflix seldom gets recent hit movies anymore; you won't find Avengers Endgame there nor many other new popular movies.
