'Dexter' wooing Julia Stiles

This just in: I’ve got another killer Dexter scoop! (Let me know when that play on words starts to get old. Better yet, don’t.)

Sources confirm to me exclusively that Julia Stiles is in advanced talks to play a major, top-secret role in the show’s upcoming fifth season.

What role, you ask? No idea. But based on what new showrunner Chip Johannessen told me a few weeks back, it’s safe to say Stiles won’t be following in the footsteps of last season’s very scary guest star, John Lithgow.

“We’re not going to have a single Big Bad this season,” revealed Johannessen. “We don’t want to try and top John Lithgow, so we’re going to change up the forces that Dexter’s going to be dealing with.”

Given that the new season picks up immediately following the death of Rita, it’s also unlikely Stiles will be coming in as a love interest for Michael C. Hall’s grieving widower. Maybe she’s playing Rita’s long-lost sister. Or her cousin once removed. The only thing I know for sure is that the Dexter gig would mark Stiles’ first major foray into television. Smart first step, if you ask me.

The only thing I've seen Julia in over the past decade since 10 Things I Hate About You, was the Bourne films. I wonder why they are being so secretive about her role here, when they released Lithgow's character info months in advance.

Who knows... kinda random casting. I think the last thing I saw her in which I never saw fully was Save the Last Dance. Is it definite that she'll be in the show?

Maybe she'll prove otherwise. Not that she's bad or anything, I just wouldn't have picked her to be in the show.

Well according to the article I posted, she is in "advanced talks" and Ausiello is right about casting news 95% of the time, I can't actually think of a single time he was wrong about that. So it looks definite to me. I don't have any feelings against her abilities, I just never would have imagined Julia Stiles showing up on Dexter.

I don't know if this is a yes or no but Julie Benz said on her Twitter:

"So many rumors- Rambo 5, Dexter, baby with @TheInfamousPJ- so little time! All I can say is I'm excited for NOF on ABC this fall!"

Most likely they won't say unless it's flashbacks like Trinity is supposedly getting and no new scenes.

At first I thought that was a possibility to, but Dexter seeing a shrink after his wife's murder just doesn't seem like top secret casting to me you know. There is no shock value whatsoever.....

Yeah Rita's sister was my first guess, and really the only thing I can come up with. But as for a love interest, I think that would piss off way too many of the fans, while it wouldn't bother me at all. His wife is dead and men get lonely. Time to move on, and do it in Stiles.......

Maybe she will be her sister, even though they never mentioned anything about it.

But she was never really into talking about her past other than Paul. They never got into her first marriage before Paul either. Possibly he'll find out how much he really didn't know about her.

Yeah pretty much. I hadn't even thought about Arthur's family being very familiar with Kyle and what that would mean for him. Can you imagine what it'll be like when they stroll by the glass hallway to the sketch artist office right past Dex's eye sight? Should be fun.
