When blu-ray came out it was an elite item and significant resources, care, and engineering went into the players (along with the large price tag). Now they're just commodities....I'm sure you can get one in a box of cereal now. |

Consumers have gotten spoiled by incredibly cheap goods (a BD player for $150 is a freaking miracle as is a $28 CD-ROM reader/writer and many other such goods.) But don't expect great build quality for those prices. Consumers have been taught to buy these things and toss them when they break. The high end is extremely niche. Back in 1966, I paid something like $300 for a Fisher 500c receiver. That's about $2000 in 2011 dollars, but few people are willing to spend that kind of money today. So..we get what we pay for. It's amazing that it's as good as it is. |

Could be, but keep in mind I live near an Air Force base. Service members are always selling stuff cheap when they get transferred to another installation due to limited space. Doesn't say whether or not that's the case here, but I've seen a lot of good deals listed like this in the past.

You can get the Panny projector for around $2k and the 120" Black Diamond II will set you back around $2,600~$3,300.
There are of course other options in screens and spending a few moments in the projectors subforum will give you some ideas if you don't want to spend that much money - https://forum.blu-ray.com/projector-screens/ For example the 2.35:1 120" screen from Carada is $700 http://www.carada.com/ProductInfo.as...N-SCREEN-C120P |

Why cant anybody equal The Pioneer Eite Kuro's? I love this one. These are only my opinions mind you but here is my reason or reasons. First is when the Kuro's were made they were made by a company who cared about quality and cared about cutomer satisfaction. They made the best because thats what they knew the people wanted. They didnt worry about 3D, widgets, internet apps and all that stuff no they wanted excellent PQ and reliablity and thats what they concentrated on. And no matter how much a Kuro was you knew you were getting the best in PQ and reliablity. The manufacturers now days want to give us good looks, widgets, 3D and by god the all almight ultra thin HDTV! To hell with PQ now days because the big boys want to concentrate on the other little things that we really dont need, or at least I dont! I have never owned a Kuro but would have done anything to have one. I have seen one up close and personal and it was the most beautiful tv I have ever veiwed and nothing yet has matched it and the way it looks never will. I am a die hard Sony supporter and always will be but they dont come close to what Pioneer did with the Kuro and neither has Samsung, Panasonic or LG. They are all second or thrid in line while Pioneers Kuro remains the king. Its just to bad they aint around anymore and for the lucky few who do own one I say you are the luckiest people alive.

God,I hate posts like that.I can't make up my mind. Buy a used Kuro LX5090,or go with a projector. If I only knew somewhere down the road something would rival the Kuro's.I would have no problem waiting for this day. But will it ever? I mean, someone has to know

Jon nailed it as well! If I were in Nico's shoes I'd either get the Kuro or something along similar quality as far as projectors go, which in my mind is Geology Nut's rig! And I'd get it now!! Last edited by wafi; 01-25-2011 at 10:52 PM. |
