People who liked the remake enjoyed the first hour more. When it devolves into that relative straight remake during the last 40 minutes or so, all people do is complain. So, Zombie gets more control for the sequel, he definitely makes it his own, but as usual, all people do is complain how it's not a Halloween movie. I would have been interested to see what he had in mind for a Part III with full control, but I'm sure he's glad to be done with it, because who needs to deal with the fickle feelings of franchise fans who will prop up a pile of trash like Resurrection which actually was disrespectful while trying to pull down these newer flicks.
No what I'm saying is, reboot the franchise using the PRINCIPLES of the first film. I don't want to see Michael in a sheet again, nor do I want him to strangle Annie in her car again etc. I want the film to be all about tension and atmosphere like the original was, not a shot-for-shot remake. They can use the original Halloween as the measuring stick and still make it fresh. There can be plenty of freedom within those parameters story-wise.

Take the Robocop remake, for example. On it's own, without the Robocop title it's not a bad movie... but it is horrendous rendition of ROBOCOP, missing the key ingredients that made it special in the first place. Rob Zombie's movies aren't inherently bad movies, and I honestly don't think many people think that they are... Problem is, they are shockingly bad HALLOWEEN movies. The issue for me, is remaking something, but changing everything that made it good in the first place... What's the point? Why take the strongest elements, in the original; The Shape, Laurie, Loomis, the atmosphere, the score and change them? It doesn't make any sense! Surely the point of a remake is to strengthen the weaker areas of the original... to start a fresh timeline and undo the bad sequels a la Resurrection etc.

My point is simple. Use what is fundamentally good about the original and build a new STORY around that.

I don't see Zombie's Halloween as a remake. I see it as it's own thing. When I watch it, I forget about Carpenter's version. Perhaps this is why I really like it, aside from certain aspects. I'm not a huge fan of his H2 but I need to give it a re-watch.

I wish they would have let Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury, creators of the French film INSIDE and the upcoming AMONG THE LIVING, do the sequel to Zombie's Halloween. They were supposed to. Not sure what happened with that. I loved INSIDE and can't wait to see AMONG THE LIVING. Would be awesome to see what these guys would do with a "Halloween" movie. Since they never did H2 I would love to see them do the next.

The second half is like a modern, cliff notes version of the original.

Could have been worse. and called it Halloween: Reborn.

Not like there's a whole lot they can do with the character they haven't already done. I mean besides launching him into Space or making a Vs. movie with Pinhead.

Apparently, that rumor is false:

We’ve been getting a lot of e-mails/tweets/Facebook messages lately about a project called Halloween: The Next Chapter. It seems that’s the latest buzz surrounding the next Halloween film and again it’s just not true. As we stated before, a new installment of Halloween is indeed in on track and moving forward and we are currently developing a script, to finally bring Michael back to the theaters!

So since the Complete Collection topic is for some reason locked, I'm posting this here.

Like its predecessor, this movie does a fantastic job acting as a sequel to the Halloween franchise by doing something completely different and new with it. Instead of being redundant and bringing Michael back, it gives us an original story with new characters and has nothing to do with the previous movie. The movie's plot is decent, although there is a serious flaw in Cochrane's plan called Time Zones. Nevertheless, the movie does a great job with its music and pacing as it really keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering what is going to happen next. I also love the scene when Challis is running away from the body guards and he is just jumping onto the ground for cover and trying to hide in the grasses and in plain sight on the street rather than trying to be a super hero every step of the way. Overall, like I said, the movie's plot is extremely flawed (hell, what about the countries that don't celebrate Halloween?), but the story telling and characters are nicely done and it tries something different that it comes out phenomenally. I give this movie a 7/10 stars and it may even be better than Halloween II.

Huh? Why is there a thread for a movie that doesn't exist?

Because it was rumored to happen. Also, put the comment in the Halloween 3 BD thread, not the Patrick Lussier Halloween 3 movie thread. Not a command, just an idea.

Actually, I thought I had put this in the HIII BD thread. No wonder I had to go to my posts page in order to find this. I'm looking for it in the wrong board.

The search function on this site doesn't exactly work every well...

This year has seen more Halloween 3 rumblings than usual. It’s hard to sift through the rumors, but there has been a steady energy signaling that progress is being made and fans are edging closer to seeing Michael Myers return to the big screen.

ShockTillYouDrop.com was the only horror outlet to partake in a small Halloween screening event on Saturday at the AMC located on the Universal CityWalk Orlando.

During a small press conference, Halloween Horror Nights creative director Mike Aiello and current "Halloween" series producer Malek Akkad (Moustapha Akkad's son) spoke about the new Halloween-themed maze featured at the theme park. Later in the discussion, Akkad presented an update on Halloween 3.

"It's been a joy to work with so many creative people - ten films," Akkad said, touching the franchise's legacy. "We're working on eleven as we speak. We're working on a script right now. A new draft - perfect timing - is supposed to hit the day before Halloween. Hopefully my Halloween night reading will be a good read."

Akkad remained secretive on the writers involved. You can watch a video from the full Q&A here.

The last entry in the "Halloween" series – Rob Zombie's Halloween II – hit theaters in 2009 and grossed nearly $40 million worldwide ($33 million domestically). Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer were brought in at one time to tackle Halloween 3D, however, Dimension Films and Trancas International opted to go in another direction.

Hopefully the script is excellent and Michael is on our screens sooner rather than later!

I want to see him strangle Annie in every movie. She's about as annoying a character as I've ever seen.
