Destroyer is by far the more entertaining movie of the two. It's so campy, there's almost an Indiana Jones quality to it. It has by far the more memorable lines:

"I grab him, and I take him!"

"It's just writing on the wall!"

"Enough talk!"

And just numerous simple barbarian moments from Arnold.

Yes, everything about Barbarian is more polished, better directed, etc. but for God's sake you have Arnold playing the lead in a dramatic role. That's just not going to work. And it didn't work in Barbarian.

Obviously in the minority here, but I know which one I always have the better time watching with friends.
Whoa!! Barbarian is a way better film and has way better lines.

The whole "what is best in life" kills destroyer.

"Crom!!"

"Crom... so grant me one request. Grant me revenge! And if you do not listen, then to HELL with you!"

I think you both forgot the greatest quote of both films:

Man says -
CONAN! What is BEST in life?

Conan -
CRUSH ENEMIES,
SEE THEM DRIVEN BEFORE YOU!
AND HEAR THE LAMENTATION OF THE WOMEN!

Man says - That is good.

Oh, totally forgot the "Kull the Conqueror" movie, another movie based on the Robert E. Howard fictional realm along with "Red Sonja". "Kull" is still in my DVD collection, but I wouldn't mind update it with a Blu-ray even if it's not a classic.

Anyway, I pre-ordered "Conan the Barbarian" and "Conan the Destroyer".

"Destroyer" was my favorite when I was a kid, I looked so much like the role playing games "Hero Quest" or "Dungeons & Dragons" !

Default Will be $9.99 come Christmas

I think it will be safe to assume that these films will both be $9.99 or lower by Christmas. If so, I'll definitely be getting the first Conan which is probably one of the best fantasy films ever made and in some ways surpasses its source material by creating a sometimes vulnerable and relatable lead character instead of the indestructible homoerotic death machine that he was in the novels. I also hope the Bluray will have the far superior theatrical cut instead of the pacing killing directors cut. And yes, the sequel Destroyer is terrible.

So this release of CTB will be a THIRD cut. Not the US or the European but rather an extended version of the European.

Yes.

If you're an Arnold fan, they also released Raw Deal (also region free).

Thanks. I enjoy Ahnuld's stuff for the most part, however, caught the last third of "Destroyer" last nite after the ball game on AMC. Forgot how bad that one is.

Located a copy of Sonya, ordered.

Yeah, I bought Barbarian and Destroyer as a packaged dvd.
I still love the first one, but Destroyer is just bad. Really bad. They tried to bring the funny too much throughout the film. Plus the score is subpar compared to Basil Poledouris' masterpiece for Barbarian.

I can't believe he also did Destroyer.

CtB was a labor of love while CtD was about making money.

The score on Destroyer sounded like it was taken from a bootleg 8-track tape of the original. The recent re-recording of the complete film score on Prometheus XPCD 169 is outstanding.

I think the Destroyer score suffered from a smaller orchestra due to a smaller budget. At least, that's what it sounds like to me. I agree with you about the new Prometheus recording.

Wow, I guess we Europeans were lucky then.
Conan The Barbarian has a DTS 5.1 soundtrack and Destroyer a Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack.

Can't wait for the Blu-ray though!

Eh? The dude banged or romanced chicks in like every single story REH wrote about him. "Indestructible death machine" I can agree with, but not the homoerotic part.

Oh, and REH never wrote a Conan novel. They all range from short stories to novella.

Objection! Another reason why I liked The Destroyer was because the main theme was more epic than The Barbarian's.
