I am a big Harry Potter fan (thou not die-hard fan) and was really looking forward for the ultimate editions but the moment I realized what's in store, I was utterly dissapointed. I finally settled down with the regular complete blu-ray set.

keep the darkness for the movies

It's just laziness not to include them as Blu-Ray discs.

Plus they didn't include the PIP commentary for PS and COS, which the Americans also got.

And to add insult to injury, the Creating The World... documentary is chucked onto a DVD disc.

So much for being an "Ultimate" edition.
As well as the audio is not HD. It's just a repackage of the original Blu-ray.

I have the French HP Ultimate editions and they feature both cuts on Blu-ray.

Which then begs the age old question as to why the UK should receive a somewhat disappointing release in comparison to other countries.

All this is terrible news! Has the Prisoner Of Azkaban UE been "butchered" as well?

I think these are a bit inferior. I'm from the US and was planning on importing the UK Philosopher's Stone just to get the TE/EE of the movie...but now I find that it's only on DVD so that kinda defies the point, considering I can't play UK DVDs in the US. You guys should be able to enjoy both cuts of the movie in HD.

Why would you do that when the US version of the PS Ultimate Edition has the extended cut on blu-ray as standard? Seems kind of like a redundant plan...

It's about £25 as well so for the more or less same money you get a better package if you live in the US and can get free postage & packaging.

Really not bothered, I wanted the Ultimate Editions back when they were just DVD sets(might be wrong) and I was only into DVDs anyway. Well happy with them all, I doubt I'd watch the extended cuts anyway, I don't have the time these days! Watched some of the exclusive documentaries and they're really good! I'm more than content, picked up Part 2 today and have the steelbook of Part 1 on the way. On the inside of all 6 it lists the 8 parts of the big documentary so UEs are obviously coming, so untill then I'll make do with the current releases, makes it easier on my wallet!

Billz, we don't HAVE 'Philosopher's Stone' in America. We have 'Sorcerer's Stone'. The reason I was hoping to import the UK version was to get the British 'Philosopher's Stone' version of the movie so I could have both versions.

Was the Philosopher's Stone (NOT Sorcerer's) Extended Blu-Ray released anywhere else in the world?

I'm sure Canada had that version?

It's the SAME movie, just with a different name on the box in the states.

Jesus. Talk about being "picky"!

Canada had it but it appears to be hard to find.

The Philosopher's Extended BR was released in Holland, Germany and France (and possibly more, but those are all I know of). I own the Dutch version, which contains:

BR: both cuts of the film
BR: Creating the World of HP, pt. 1
DVD: Original special features disc from the first 2-disc release.

I assume the German and French boxes should have the same.

Not just that, but scenes where the actors talk about the stone were also recorded twice. Once with them saying Philosopher's Stone and once with them saying Sorcerer's Stone.

Technically, we do have the HP 1&2 Extended Editions in HD. On the PlayStation Video Store. At roughly 1GB (give or take) download each.

And in glorious 720p HD they are.

The original BD does have HD audio though, it has an uncompressed PCM track which is just as good as any TrueHD or DTS-HD track.

I did not know this. However, it still does not have the TrueHD option that the US discs have.
