![]() Beside this, the visuals in The Order 1886 should be downright phenomenal, as they pretty much just confirmed that it will have 4x MSAA ![]() I wish people would drop the 1920x800 vs 1920x1080 thing... It's a silly argument (and no, 1920x800 is -not- 800p). Last edited by Elandyll; 02-06-2014 at 07:55 PM. |

I agree, its a shame this isn't an online co-op. Looks suited for 4 players. I mean I understand the devs wanna keep it simple and make this game shine, but I thought this gen would push people to play online more, especially Sony considering XBL has reigned as the MP console leader.

From the design stage this game was conceived as a 2.35:1 game with black bars.
I am glad that RAD actually confirmed they are sticking to their guns ![]() We lose a little bit on the vertical resolution, but the FOV is awesome imo, and tied to the vision the devs have for the game. 2.35:1 would have no place in MP, but that's not what they have in mind anyway. example of the difference ![]() |

http://www.incgamers.com/2013/05/why...al-to-pc-games (The article is related to PC games, but it should be just as relevant to console gamers that use large TVs or front projectors) You can get a better field of view compared to the 2.35:1 image shown by increasing the FOV of the 16:9 image. PC games have been able to do this for years now, but I really wish they push it more on consoles. It should be noted that some games that are smart enough to expand it's field of view with a wider aspect ratio are called Horizontal plus (Hor+). Games that increase it's field of view by having a taller aspect ratio (meaning a wider aspect ratio leads to smaller FOV) are called Vertical Minus (Vert-). http://www.wsgf.org/article/screen-change While games with Vert- can work with wider screens by increasing the FOV, some areas of the game menus, full motion video, and HUD elements, not working with the game's native aspect ratio. This often leads to changing aspect ratios, which often can make the image appear in letterbox or pillarbox, or in worst cases, cropping or stretching. This unfortunately happens many times with both PC and console games. The benefit of the developer having the game running at 2.35:1 is the performance benefit and having the game in a fixed aspect ratio could allow consistency. RaD only needs to worry about working with one aspect ratio that works with the game engine, menus, and full motion video, are designed to work with this aspect ratio. What I like about this is that we don't need to worry about changing aspect ratios. I frankly am tired of playing games that use various aspect ratios just to achieve an "artistic" or "cinematic" look. Most of those attempts in games are just as bad as changing the tone of a narrative imho. I think if your game is to be presented in a different aspect ratio, like your cutscenes, your game should be presented in that aspect ratio, period. |

Disappointed the campaign won't be co-op. Glad there won't be multiplayer though. Reading the game informer article I thought this game would be Sony's answer to Gears of War but I guess I was wrong. I'm sure it will be another great Sony IP, just not sure if I'll keep my preorder now.

I'm happy with most of the news recently. Sure 60fps would be nice, but I'm used to console games.
Essentially what I've just said is that they're making a game that 100% appeals to me. Fans of multiplayer shooters are obviously not gonna be into this and that's fine. Diversity is good. Plenty of games on that side of the spectrum coming out this year, so The Order and say...The Evil Within are for a different kind of audience - one that I'm happy is still being catered to. |

![]() I don't think there is anything wrong with presenting your game in a different aspect ratio. My interests in the game actually increases when a game is presented in a scope aspect ratio (mainly since I used to own a 2.35:1 screen) ![]() What I'm not fine however is that games that change the aspect ratio, that are meant to be immersive, but I find them disruptive. I find your video was ranting about artistic vision in games, but I find it would work for a game to have varying aspect ratios if they are disruptive. What I often find to be the case is that many games that change the aspect ratio aren't meant to be disruptive, but often try to immerse the player into the game's world. Changing the shape of the image abruptly is usually disruptive, which can work if it's the intent, but really I find it breaks the immersion. If they are wanting an immersive game, I think they should stick to their guns and have the game run at it's native aspect ratio; gameplay, cutscenes and menus. If that's not a problem, wonderful! I hope that if they want a different aspect ratio, they'll be consistent with it. |
