Talking The Order: 1886

The Order: 1886 re-writes history by introducing a unique vision of Victorian-Era London where myths and technology co-exist. As a member of an elite order of knights, join a centuries-old war that will determine the course of history forever.

Created by acclaimed developer Ready at Dawn, The Order: 1886 will launch exclusively for the PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system.

KEY FEATURES
  • Alternate History – The Order: 1886 allows players to discover a unique version of Victorian-Era London where technology and the supernatural collide. Players will wield advanced weapons and gadgets that didn’t exist during that era and the realism of the game experience will make you feel like these elements could have been very plausible during the time.
  • Historical Mythology – The game introduces a unique mythology that will fuse actual history (real world places, figures, and events) with twists on familiar myths and legends to create an alternate history from the one we know today.
  • Filmic Immersion - The game’s unique filmic presentation is designed to replicate the texture of film and use real-world motion picture and cinematography techniques to emphasize dramatic character performance and realism.
  • Ready At Dawn Legacy – Created and developed by Ready At Dawn Studios, award- winning developers of Daxter®, God of War®: Chains of Olympus (PSP Game of the Year) and God of War®: Ghost of Sparta. The studio is known for pushing their target hardware to its limits, as has been seen from their past titles, and they are now setting their sights and expertise on the PS4 system.

Here's the full length intro

Ready at Dawn updated their site: http://www.readyatdawn.com

New twitter account: https://twitter.com/RAD_Studios

Quote:
This project has been a long time coming, and I’m proud today that we finally have a chance to give you a first look into our new game, The Order: 1886. This is the first original IP created by Ready At Dawn, and the game is targeted exclusively for the PlayStation 4.

The genesis of this project happened many years ago, but it was not until 2010, when hearing of the upcoming PS4, that we as a studio decided it was time for us to bring this IP to life. We saw that the platform could finally give us the potential needed to achieve the vision we had for this game.

With The Order: 1886, we introduce players to a unique vision of Victorian-era London, an alternate history where technological advances take center stage in a battle against a powerful and ancient foe. The game takes place nearly forty years after the Industrial Revolution. But unlike in real history, our Industrial Revolution stems from mankind’s desire to prevail in a centuries-old war. The advances in technology, invented by some of the foremost minds of the time, give man an opportunity to take the upper hand for the first time in their struggle.

In the game, you are a knight, a member of an ancient order, and you will take center stage in this fight for mankind’s survival. As the game takes place in an alternate history, you will be able to interact with real-world historical characters who will aid you in your quest. You will see and navigate real places. You will not only be a witness, but have a hand in real events that have unfolded.

Beyond story and setting, there are a select few key concepts to which we wanted to adhere when we created this title. One of these is the filmic aspect of the game. As we developed our visual target, we used aesthetics that have been present in cinematography for decades to achieve our goal; from lenses and lighting techniques to grading, we wanted to recreate a visual feel that would bring you closer to what you have only been able to experience in movies.

We also strived to create a seamless experience when it came to the game. The idea was to make sure that you never saw any visual discrepancies or breaks in continuity between gameplay and cinematic. Our game models and our cinematic models are one and the same, and everything is rendered real time in the engine as you play the game. The trailer we presented is a great example of that. What you saw is running in-engine, in-game with no gimmicks. These visuals are what you can expect of the final game when you play it.

Of course, there is a lot more to talk about, and this is only the start. There will be more to come in the near future, and the team at Ready At Dawn and I can’t wait to share more of the game with you.
I believe it may actually be a third-person game.

I have a feeling Sony is grooming RaD to take IG's position after the betrayalton and, if RaD is open to it later, acquire them.

EDIT: I also hope this has RPG elements to it. It gives me a White Wolf RPG vibe.

Am I the only one that thought that it kind of looked like Resistance in 19th century London? Obviously not exactly the same, but the enemies, and the unique weapons used definitely had a Resistance vibe to it.

The title should be changed to 1886 btw

I'd say i'm cautiously optimistic about this. It kinda looks cool but worrying for me at the same time. For some reason, quite a few titles including watch dogs have given me that 'bit too good to be true' sort of vibe or in this instance, just a real general sense of reservation. That is to say I wasn't really floored by what this game was trying to promise. The 'wolfmen' looked a little clichéd imo, so i'm just wondering how much of an impact they have on the story and whether it'll be interesting.

Cant say it really reminded me of Resistance but they are both games that are based around alternate history

It's from Ready at Dawn, and Santa Monica Studios. The game is in great hands. Ready at Dawn is a studio that was started from former Naughty Dog members. The two studios are responsible for all of the God of War games released to date.

320MB version of the trailer http://www.gamersyde.com/download_th...-30244_en.html

They've got a few more (watermarked) screenshots than what I pulled from SCEA's press site too.

Interesting.

Somehow I thought that The Order 1866 was a pure Santa Monica project, but I guess they still haven't revealed their big guns yet.

Big guns yet to come for PS4:

Media Molecules (vague yet promising tech demo during the reveal)
Sony London
Naughty Dog Team A (I was really expecting this one at E3)
SCEJ (besides Polyphony) - The Last Guardian?
Quantic Dreams (besides their Dark Sorcerer demo, we know they have a PS4 project)
and ... Santa Monica (who I guess helped with this one)

Methinks that Gamescom will be another big one for Sony this year...
The SCEJ stuff will probably wait until TGS though.

I thought that The Order looked promising (particularly the atmosphere and the Neo post Victorian Dystopia), but no gameplay shown so hard to know what to think about it.

I was thinking about ordering this but only watching the trailer I just didn't know much about it. But reading the description now, I just might want to add this to my pre-order.

But still, wondering if this is mainly about werewolves? Or are there other types of creatures as well? It sounded like there might be more to it. "An ancient supernatural foe." To me that hints at something bigger than just a werewolf game.

If the game play looks as good as they suggest it does, I bet it would be pretty intense and creepy combined with full surround audio. I'm leaning towards getting it.

Edit: Think I'll wait to see more info they put out on it before actually ordering it. I guess it's not a launch game either, I thought it was.
