It would be great it they lower this to less than $30 because I have free shipping now. So, if they lower it to less than $30, I will still get the free shipping despite not having met the $35 requirement.
Like previous seasons, come February it will most likely $30.

I'd be surprised if it actually went down to $30 this time. Boardwalk Empire was regularly available for around $30 on release day for Seasons 1-3, the same as GoT, but it was $39.99 this time. I know the difference in popularity and material is pretty large, but GoT still could remain at the current price point. Not too happy about them removing the DVDs like they did for Boardwalk either.

My guess is that there will be multiple exclusives for this one

Looks awesome, but I'll wait to see if Best Buy has new House slips before I decide.

I really hope Best Buy does. Surprised nothing has been announced yet.

The first time I put in the first disc from season one, I was blown away by the picture quality. Up to that point, it was the best looking Blu-ray Disc I've ever seen. Part of why it was so awesome is due to the fact they had plenty of space to add as much data as needed. Adding more episodes per disc means more compression, and less quality. It might still look good, but it won't look "the best PQ I've ever seen" like it currently is with the GoT sets.

That's not entirely true though because I am 99.9% sure that past seasons feature a 'dodgy' disc/episode ratio. I'm sure some episodes were in the high 20's bitrate, yet others were in the 18 range as too many were crammed onto certain discs.

They should be able to easily fit 3 episodes across 2 discs and then 2 episodes across the other 2 discs, and then spread out the special features. Easily done and could mean at least a solid 20+ bitrate.

Hopefully they don't cheap out on the packaging like they did with Boardwalk Empire season 4.

Can't see that happening - GoT is their crown jewel.

I think this mockup is a mistake. I doubt they'd put episodes 7 - 10 on the final disc. I'll be surprised if there isn't 5 discs.

Also (as has been stated repeatedly), the press release states 5 DISCS.

I hope it's 5 discs. Don't mess with perfection!
Also it only looks like 4 disc trays, so hopefully that mockup is wrong, or just slightly off.

Audio, too. If you look at the episode with the Battle of Blackwater in Season 2 the audio is simply astounding - the arrows flying overhead, the explosions - it's an incredible audio experience.

The DVDs never affected the price. The first season was more expensive without the DVDs

Will HBO finally put out a season with a disc structure and menu system that makes sense? I doubt it but holy crap are the menus and assorted supplemental materials ever screwed up on these sets. It's so much simpler to put 2-3 episodes per disc (depending on included commentaries) and then all supplements on the first disc in 1 concise place. Not this menu that shows you all the special features and when you click it tells you to insert disc X. Or having only 1 episode on some discs because, well, there is no valid reason (save for the final episode).

Compression has gotten better in the years between, however. It likely balances out.

While id prefer the special features on a single disc the layout they use is easily navigatable. It tells you in the menu which disc each feature and episode is on. Its a bit of a pain in the ass tho Ill give ya that. Id like to be able to put a single disc in and watch all the special features in one go instead of having to make 5 disc changes throughout the special feature viewing experience. The layout would make sense if each disc's special features corresponded with the episodes on the disc but they dont seem to. HBO just kind of randomly spreads the features across all the discs.

That always annoyed the heck out of me.
