9/24/15 - Mama (2013) - 2nd time viewing. Pretty solid film. Not a lot of replay value but very well made and very good acting. The kids were exceptional and Jessica Chastain was very good as well. The ending was a bit sad but its cool sometimes when we dont have the happy ending.

* First-time viewing

Starting off my Halloween marathon with something more cute than creepy...

-Hotel Transylvania (2012):

I gave this one a pass in theaters (mainly due to the Sandler Taint), but when I finally watched it earlier this year, I was very pleasantly surprised...it's charming, funny and sweet, with excellent, energetic animation featuring characters caroming off the sides of the screen like in a vintage Tex Avery cartoon. Great stuff to introduce kids to the classic "Universal Monster" archetypes, and parents who grew up on these kinds of films will enjoy it a lot too.

9/25 *The Witches

This had alot of the ambiances I enjoy, classy, subtle, outdoor cinematography & great looking buildings/countryside of a small English village. It may be a little slow for the taste of today's horror audience, with no gore(which I do not enjoy if it is too much, however I can handle some) per se, but this movie is right within 'my cup of tea'.

9/22 - Let's Scare Jessica to Death (1971) - Another early '70s occult thriller to set the mood.

9/23 - The Shuttered Room (1967) - Great moody and atmospheric Gothic horror film.

9/24 - The Abominable Dr Phibes (1971) - Nuff' said!

9/25 - Diary of a Madman (1963) - An underrated gem that's perfect for a dark Autumn night.

Finally got my hands on Criterion's ISLAND OF LOST SOULS. Received it in the mail a couple of days ago. Even though he's not heavily featured in it I might just add the film to my Bela Lugosi marathon that I have planned.

9/22 - Night of the Creeps -

Love this one. Not really scary, but campy and funny. Plus Tom Atkins in one of my favorite roles.

9/25 - Lost After Dark

(3 1/2) - first time viewing. Pretty good "period" slasher. Set in the 80's. Pretty good character development before the slashing starts. Lots of moody shots of the old house. Enjoyable example of a well done slasher.

9/26 - Hardware -

First time watching. Loved the music. Like Dylan McDermott and the dystopian setting adds to the atmosphere.

-Hotel Transylvania 2 * (2015):

Maybe a sliver less enjoyable than the first (so little of the film takes place within the titular hotel it might as well have been titled Road Trip Transylvania), but still fun, with the inspired casting of Mel Brooks -- Dead and Loving It -- as Drac's fussy, human-hating Dad.

-Maggie * (2015):

Aside from the novelty of seeing Arnold Schwarzenegger attempt an honest-to-God dramatic performance (let's just be kind and say that "grieving father" isn't within his limited skills as a performer), this is a fairly rote zombie movie, albeit one with a tone that's more somber and realistic than you'd expect.

started my marathon off yesterday with Hotel Transylvania 2 and The Green Inferno! still planning my lost all the way through October. there's some good horror blu Ray released coming in October so I've got those and an episode of scream queens every Tuesday and then when AHS Hotel starts I've got an episode of that every Wednesday!

I'm so behind with recent horror, got a lot of catching up to do. Can't wait! Halloween is my favourite Holiday.
