Yes of course, I don't think anyone expected or expects the same level of output as BD. However with HDR being such a prominent feature, I thought that it would be an additional restriction on what is viable (other than sales) on UHD BD. Like a double whammy. But it turns out that although it is a restricting factor, it's not very significant, as it's being shown that HDR on catalog doesn't alter the intended look in any negative way (if done right, and of course HDR is not a requirement on the format). Even the skeptics are starting to be quiet about it now.

MifuneFan has posted elsewhere that these two titles are getting re-released by Par (I think April 25) now that their distrib deal with Warner is over. Are you referring to those releases or 4k UHDs? I see there's a Finnish/Danish/Swedish/Norwegian 4k UHD Gladiator listed in the site's db with a June 12 release. I'm not seeing anything there for Braveheart. If you're referring to something you've seen regarding a 4k UHD BD release of Braveheart, by all means please share deets/links. "I want this man Wallace's head on a plate!"

Well a little while ago there was a rumor post about all the stuff that may be coming out this year. The Mummy Trilogy was part of it, as was Gladiator, and Braveheart was mentioned too. There's no press release or anything, but it was mentioned that it seems to be in the pipeline, and possibly for 2017.

Thanks. I found this Bits link (and a site thread with all the usual suspects). Def Rumor Mill stuff. When it comes to Par at this point, I'll believe it when I have the disc in my hands.

(P.S. - One can arguably get an indication of how messy things are for Par now when even the seasoned exec who gained notoriety/infamy for getting blown in the restroom at an industry party turns down an offer to run the studio.)

Now that you've made the point that they have reverted, I'm with you that we'll need a press release or discs in our hands to take it with more than ' a grain of salt...'

The Bits shouldn't even be relied upon anymore. Don't even know why he shills that site at all or keeps it running.

I'll believe it when I see it announced on this site.

Because he still gets enough ad revenue and Amazon affiliate money to make it worth his while, I assume. Though he constantly points out it ain't what it used to be. Well... constantly as far as I can tell, I only go there sparingly now.

Seems the French Blu-ray will have 4 discs and a 56-page booklet.

Eh, just looks like they're including the 2-disc DVD with the BD and UHD. Pass.

Blu Ray.. *when it was released* was being discussed as the final physical format. It was always assumed that any future format would be digital.

From 2005, here is Bill Gates...

As per the whole.. is it a new format, or simply an extension of Blu Ray? You need all new drives to read it, so at that point its a new format. If the newer discs worked in the older drives it would matter. But they don't.

Seems to be considered an extension of the Blu-ray (and indeed has "Blu-ray" as part of the name). The laser tech seems to be the same and the discs themselves are a tweak on the BD-XL extension that's been around for years. You needed new players for 3D (only some discs supported 2D backwards compatibility)...

Refinement or new format seems like an endless semantics discussion that in the end doesn't matter much. At the end of the day people were predicting the death of discs 20 years ago but UHDs are starting off well in the sales separtment. Hell, CDs still sell millions of copies for the right artist. There's plenty of years left for physical media, though lots of less mainstream things will likely go digital only.

I remember a couple of years ago or so, "Amirm" over at AVS who promoted HD DVD while with Microsoft said UHD BD would not launch. There were some others. Now here we are.

I think a lot of industry people are frustrated with the end of the DVD mainstream boom and exaggerate how bad things are as a result. The internet breeds extreme opinions, especially when anger or frustration are involved. There's a huge grey area between the DVD boom and the death of physical media (hear me Bates Motel! Hear meeeee!).

Unless your name is Adele and your fanbase is mostly older women, you are not selling millions of physical copies these days.
