Well, I finally bought this a couple of weeks ago, and finished watching it tonight. In short, it was quite a thrill-ride, though I didn't care for the language in some episodes (Star Trek having minimal amounts of it up to this point). It was good to see so many great characters return, and I enjoyed the new ones too. I don't think I'll be subscribing to CBS All Access any time soon, but I'll gladly buy Season 2 when it hits Blu-Ray.

I remember reading somewhere from a crew man that DISCO and PICARD will never be available in 4K because :
1/ Only available on streaming so few streaming services are using 4k (BBC started this Christmas with Doctor Who) 2/ Even if it was in 4K it wouldn’t be noticeable enough 3/ Few shows are out in 4K and even the most popular ones such as Game of Thrones were not sure to make it. |

And as mentioned by @PeterTHX Picard is streaming in Dolby Vision/HDR on CBS All Access. It's just a Full-HD Stream with DV/HDR though. Same as Discovery. |

Well, between now and March 3rd, you can get a CBS AA/Paramount+ subscription for $50 that lasts you a year. I'm probably going to do that. I mean, it's like $35 a pop for a Star Trek season on these new shows and within the next calendar year there will be new seasons of "Picard", "Lower Decks", "Discovery", and the premiere of "Strange New Worlds", plus the 1883 spinoff of "Yellowstone".
So, as much as I do want to support discs, I figure i can rewatch Picard Season 1 on the app. |

a lot of streaming does 4k now 4k shot with modern lenses and top digital cameras is VERY noticeable just for the 4k alone partly true for the first part and the second part may or may not be true and shouldn't have any bearing on anything else anyway |

1 - Not really true. A number of flagship-tier series are now in 4K. Not only that, it's clearly the future. Maybe this was a bit more true when Discovery season one aired, but by the time season three aired the 4K train had already left the station. 2 - Also not really true. If I recall correctly, Discovery (and maybe Picard too?) was not natively filmed in 4K. And yet, 4K still has value. 3 - As it relates to physical media? Or is it the same thing as point one? |

Picard was a very good show, essentially a super-extended TNG episode - resembling the more cinematic ones like The Inner Light or Best of Both Worlds. Of course I have a few nit-pics, but they don’t lower my overall pleasure: No real spoilers here: 1) The “look at me, I’m hairy and smoking a cigar like Wolverine” intro of the pilot. 2) The size of the town in the last act (far too small to have the dramatic weight that was needed). 3) A very weird editing mistake in what was probably episode 4 or 5, where Picard is on the planet surface and then he is also on the ship saying bye to his friend who is about to go to the planet surface. |

![]() I agree Picard was well-done. It avoided trying to be TNG season 8, the familiar characters were re-introduced very effectively, and like Discovery it had some solid production values. It is definitely not the conventional crew-on-an-impressive-ship-doing-impressive-things kind of series, played more heavily as a serialized drama, and as such was probably "slower" and less "eventful" than some wanted. I never tired of it myself and excitedly await season two. |

Patrick Stewart was very adamant he wasn't interested in doing TNG redux (like a Season 8). The approach and story intrigued him enough to do it. It was never about money - the man has enough to retire comfortably for the rest of his days.
Unfortunately certain fans can't wrap their heads around the fact that it's the story *he* wanted to tell, not the stories they wanted. |

I have watched season 1 twice already and just finished season 2 and thoroughly enjoyed both seasons. I like character driven shows and Picard delivers on this in spades. I think Eugene would have loved the show. |
