The films on last week's edition of The Film Review (cinema, DVD, Blu-ray and streaming releases), presented by Martine Croxall and Mark Kermode (in the BBC Television Centre studio):
- Men (horror film whose cast includes Jessie Buckley and Rory Kinnear) - Major - Bergman Island - Best out: Top Gun: Maverick - Cinema re-issue: Pickpocket. Going to wait for the eventual physical media releases of The Bob's Burgers Movie and Men. Was going to see them at my local cinema, but the times weren't suitable (compared to the Bond season so far). |

Kermode didn't like Lightyear but the clip that was shown gave Ben Brown a laugh.. So that's a definite win for the film in my book. Surprised he didn't break out in a rash.

There were previews of The Black Phone in Odeon cinemas this past Saturday, so I assume that will be featured on this coming Friday's new edition, along with Elvis. |

The Black Phone looks like a decent film... The trailer was released a while ago so the studio must think they have a good chance of a profit, otherwise this would've been streamed already.
The trailer for Elvis left me disinterested.. Very meh imho. |

Am only going on what I've found out in the new issue of TV & Satellite Week magazine, but it appears Horror Channel UK's name is being changed from a week tomorrow (Thursday 30th June), and the hours they're going to be on air each day is changing too (from 5 pm to 3 am).
The new channel name will be HorrorXtra. |

This week's edition of The Film Review has been postponed until tomorrow evening/night, due to a news story today. It mentions in Sky's TV listings that film critic Jason Solomons is in place of Mark Kermode. Haven't seen Solomons on TV for what is probably three years (he was one of the film critics who would stand in for Mark Kermode, along with Anna Smith and James something (can't remember his surname). As well as occasionly co-presenting The Film Review, they would co-present the post-Oscars nominations programme with (usually) Jane Hill on the BBC News channel.

The films on last week's edition of The Film Review (cinema, DVD, Blu-ray and streaming releases), presented by Jane Hill and Jason Solomons (in the BBC Television Centre studio):
- Elvis - The Big Hit - George Michael Freedom Uncut - Best out: Good Luck to You, Leo Grande - Cinema re-issue/physical media: Wings of Desire. Just double-checking in case I have it incorrect, but is The Film Review being presented in the new-look BBC News studio? If there is any confusion on my part, I'll leave the "BBC Television Centre studio" bit out. Bit difficult commenting on this because of the forum's rules, but occasionly, when Jane Hill doesn't like certain films her comments can be no holds barred. And Jason Solomons can take a while getting used to on The Film Review. |

Some of the films on Legend (formerly Horror Channel UK) in August:
- An Eye for an Eye (channel premiere) - Buffalo Bill and the Indians (channel premiere) - Christine (dir: John Carpenter) - Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (dir: Sir Kenneth Branagh) - Codename Geronimo (UK network premiere) - The One (the cast including Jet Li and Jason Statham) - Highlander - Robbery (the cast including Stanley Baker and Barry Foster; channel premiere). Regarding An Eye for an Eye, before realising there was a western or spaghetti western whose cast included Robert Lansing, I only knew of the film Eye for an Eye whose cast includes Sally Field and Kiefer Sutherland, and the Chuck Norris film An Eye for an Eye. |

Despite some negative reviews when it came out in 1994, I really like this film very much and have watched it several times over the years. Lots of well known faces here too, and probably the first film in which I saw John Cleese playing a serious role.

I think the only films I've seen which John Cleese has starred in have been Fierce Creatures (saw this at the cinema, mainly because Carey Lowell from Licence to Kill and Law & Order was in it, and the zoo setting), The World is Not Enough and Die Another Day (both of these Bond films at the cinema). Have seen some of Clockwise when it's been shown on TV. Haven't seen much of A Fish Called Wanda.

A Fish Called Wanda had good reviews when the film was released, but personally, I didn't like it despite having a good cast. I watched it again a couple or so years later to give it another chance, but I just didn't warm to it. Clockwise I did enjoy, with Cleese playing an almost Basil Fawlty-type character. |
