Y'all are debating the finer points of 4DX "smellovision", meanwhile my Regal is so low end it still has the heinous "stadium seating", the only theaters around without leather recliners.

Is Cinemark showing this in 3D after Tuesday the 21st?

4DX is a lot less than just smell effects, in fact that might be the most forgettable of all the effects.

Another one they used here was the fake snow for the scenes where PP first visits Doctor Strange (not using spoiler tags since parts of the scene are in the trailer)

It's Spider-Man by a mile. Avengers as a product has gotten a boost from the movies over the last couple of years (particularly since Marvel studios couldn't promote Spider-Man or X-Men), but as revenue generators go Spider-Man has always been the top superhero product for decades. Batman is right behind. We're not just talking movies; it's toys, lunchboxes, underoos, cups, pillows, t-shirts, etc..
Spider-Man is a franchise monster and has been a pop culture icon worldwide for decades.

Avengers has always been a fairly popular comic book but it's never sold in the quantities that Spider-Man or the mutant stuff did. Avengers was always a very strong B product for Marvel and Spider-Man and the X stuff was the A product. Now that Marvel studios controls the mutant franchise again I actually expect it to become the top grossing segment within the MCU over the coming years.

Always take wikipedia with a grain of salt, but here's a pretty nice revenue breakdown:

Disney lost billions in the Pandemic and have probably maxed out their credit cards lol. But even if that wasn't an issue, I don't think Disney has enough money for Amy Pascal and Sony to even consider selling the IP. Especially as the current film is breaking records worldwide.
Amy Pascal is a producer and has zero input into this type of sale. It's all about the board and the institutional stockholders. If the deal is right they'll pull the trigger. And Disney can go two routes, try to buy out the IP license or make a play for Sony's film/tv division. And they barely need a dime, can be done with stock trades. For better or worse, everything is for sale.

I'm pretty sure this underscores my point. Fox wasn't going to sell off the X-Men so Disney acquired the whole studio for 71 Billion dollars. Their initial offer was just over 50B so you can see how much the company is willing to over pay to bring the Marvel IP home.

It may never happen but I think the odds are better than not it will. Disney is not interested in the sort of dust up they had where Sony started to jerk them around and threaten to pull Spider-Man from the MCU. It's not just the Spider-Man money, it's a the synergy and halo effect the character brings to Marvel's entire product. They want that very badly.

Wanting it and getting it are two very different things. I agree that Disney wants all of Marvel under their control - including potential Hulk solo films that also have some weird agreement. Sony simply isn't going to sell off Spider-man. Especially when they can continue to make a ton of money off the Disney/MCU popularity. They have absolutely no reason to even entertain such an offer and as the dust up over Spider-man proved, Sony is willing to walk away from the MCU and keep Spider-man and it's profits.

Of course.

Without going into a lot of detail, the product profit is often inconsequential to transactions at this level, where it's 100% about boosting stock prices. A 4% or 5% stock jump from some merger instantly puts more money into executive and institutional shareholder pockets than years and years of dividends of said product would.

But I digress, I own stock in neither company and have no skin in the game. I'm just glad the studios are working together because letting Marvel jump into the driver's seat has hugely improved the franchise.

watched this in Imax in 3d on Saturday night. the screening was pretty much packed out ! Really enjoyed the 3d in this . felt a bit like vertigo in some of those opening scenes . Loved the bridge battle in 3d and just a tad disappointed in the 3d at the end as it was all set at night . But a great film and the 3d really enhanced it . Such a shame if Sony don't give us a 3d blu ray

I'm so jealous of you. I reallllly miss IMAX 3D. It's been way too long. I would have loved to have seen this in that way.

The taller 1.90 frame would certainly enhance vertigo.

As much as I did enjoy No Way Home in 3D, it was noticeably milder than prior Spider-Man movies and MCU movies. I saw it again yesterday with sharper projection than my first viewing, with friends who had enjoyed Into the Spider-Verse and Rise of Skywalker in 3D, and we all agreed No Way Home’s 3D paled in comparison. I also noticed a few conversion errors with some of Doctor Strange’s portals during the mirror dimension battle; the image within the portal is a flat circle with no depth. Most portals within the movie do have proper depth, so this makes me wonder if the conversion team wasn’t given much time to work on the 3D.

Again, I still enjoyed the 3D and would order this on 3D Blu-ray in a heartbeat. But I might measure my expectations for Sony’s 3D output from now on.

Don't know osmos. Just saw an article or two mentioning it and some people here saying they were going to watch it in imax 3d. Though I didn't double-check if they were in the US...

The bridge fight and Strange vs Spidey really stood out in 3D.

That stuff was shown in the trailers so not too much of a spoiler, assuming you watched any of the trailers that is.

I avoid watching trailers for exactly this reason. With a movie this big I think it’s only polite to discuss plot details like that in spoiler tags, even if it was ‘in the trailer’.

I kind of miss the basic seats that could pack in more patrons. I'm used to the sofa seating now which does offer more elbow room thankfully, but I rarely ever recline back and just sit upright for 3D especially, as with the old seats.
But yeah, some of those older seats were clunky or worn out.

My Cinemark still has 3D show times, that's rare these days after opening weekend, but great to see.
