Default Breaking NEWS

I have been saying that I would get PS3 by Memorial Day. But I made biggest decision today, and I traded in most games that I won't play again, and I am happy to say that I have Playstation 3 60gb as right now! I only have to pay $194 after trade in credits from Gamestops. I cannot list games it is too darn long to names all games, but trade-in value was $469.52, that prompted me to get PS3!

Look foward to watch X-Men Last Stand later tonight.

I like to share with you my experience with PS3. Interface is not new to me, it same as PSP, however, it feel like enlarger and huge. It is not same way it handle hdmi and resolution as Xbox 360 handle Resoultion. On Xbox 360, it will set at 1080i and all are display at 1080i, and expect when play dvd, it will drop to 480i or p. On Playstation 3, when I played Elder SCrolls iv and NHL 2k7, it will drop back to 720p which is supported by game, which I set it at 1080i via hdmi to my family 40 inch sony hdtv. When play BD, it display at 1080i, it keep show me what resolution signal is sending which Xbox 360 does not. Of course, Picture quality is huge, because it is my first time using HDMI.

I am happy that I made right choice before format war begins that I chosen to be true neutral back in 2005 when Sony and T. failed to reach agreement, because of this, I got Playstation 3. I am not taking any sides, all I want to enjoy my experience as early adopter like some of you. I am enjoying every moment I have with it. I am now trying get Final Fantasy back into my collection which I scarficed them to trade for psp 2 years ago. I ordered Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy IX, and Final Fantasy X-2 last night. I owned them before, only thing that I have is strategy books from these Series. I got Final Fantasy XII from GameStop. Will get some more Final Fantasy series next month. All of my Final Fantasy series in my gaming Collection will be restore by July.

I won't regert it like I did with psp, same way I did with PS3 by trade games and pay only small price of it, as 200 bucks than pay full 650 bucks.

Because game cost can go down in the distance future, and few of them will come back into my collection, like Final Fantasy series are my number one goal to complete it before I focus on Tomb Raider series, Resident Evil, and Silent Hill on Playstation platforms.

I got to go, got to play some game or watch movie Talldega Nights, it is my second hometown where I went to Alabama School for the Deaf in Talladega, Alabama.

By the way, I have no issues or difficult watch movies with conneciton on. It is current Firmware 1.70 on my PS3.

My game id is Jonalan34. God bless you all, hope we enjoy share our experience with Blu-ray and Playstation 3, no matter what I have or who I am. All I am true neutral, and only will be on winner side in the end.

It is sad that people cannot tell big difference between component and HDMI. I notice it quickly, it was huge difference, I feel like watching enlarge movie or huge one. Due to HDMI. Experience is huge because of hdmi. Not how interface looks, or what Playstation 3 can do, but it was pq with hdmi which was so huge for me to experience it.

Thank you for your time to hear my experience. God bless ya.

i love my PS3 also, and wouldn't trade it for anything. i really enjoy the movie quality and the graphics on the games look great as well. i've written a full article about PS3 as a Blu-ray disc player and put a lot of good info in there if anyone is interested. i honestly think that Blu-ray is going to be the wave of the future, so that is one of the reasons i went PS3. another is the fact that i've been using the same controller design for over a decade with Playstation! i feel it's just a great console all around.

Regarding the 1.8 update, this is what I noticed:

1. Upscaling works thru HDMI and works great! If your display can show true 1080P, watching high bit rate standard DVDs is a revelation. Watching Pixar's "The Incredibles" in 1080P is truly a visual feast, with fine detail that is close to HD, more like 720P in clarity. Unfortunately, bad transfers shows it's faults with it's higher compression artifacts more visible than before.

2. The PS3 now passes ALL the Silicon Optix HQV STandard DVD tests. Previously, the PS3 was terrible. It had failed all the HQV tests, but now it passes all the cadence, detail, interlacing and text scrolling tests. The racing car scene locks in immediately with no moire effects. The fluttering flag shows no jagged artifacts on the edges. The rotating bar tests show no problems with interlacing.

3. Not mentioned but available is 1080P at 24Hz (for Blu-Rays only) for displays that can accept the signal. Previously, the PS3 only supported 60Hz which introduced a judder when scenes showed any horizontal panning. This is due to the fact that movies are filmed at 24Hz and converting to 60Hz does not result in an even cadence (i.e. 24 fps cannot be converted to 60Hz evenly).

4. The PS3 runs hotter!! Previously, my PS3 ran pretty quiet. AFter the upgrade, the units fans now run louder than before. Obviously, all these new features are making the cell processors work harder, so it's generating more heat.

Overall, the v1.8 firmware is must have if you plan to watch DVDs on the PS3. The PS3 now outperforms my Denon 3930CI DVD player with the Reon processor which is no small feat. The details at 1080P from standard DVDs are so much better, it really can look hi-def with good DVDs. At 720P, the image is much improved over 480P but it really must be seen at 1080P as it shows an improvement even over 720P.

What is the difference in the upscaling choices on the PS3. There is normal, double scale, etc. For most users with a non-1080p display, which is the best to use? It seems that double scale would work the best, but I could be mislead.

Thumbs down

A friend of mine just got a PS3 the other day and I have to say, its an impressive piece of hardware but its execution is not worthy. After fiddlin' around with it for awhile, I realized that this wasn't the system I wanted it to be. The only worthy thing about this piece of crap is the Blu Ray player. The games out for it now are terrible, the games coming for it aren't looking great and I can just get them on my Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 is something great. It's got everything you need and it's much more user friendly to people and game developers. Did you know that the PS3's cell processor is so hard to write games for that only 10-20% of its potential power can be used?? Game developers just can't crack the other percentage! If they did, we could see a very amazing truly next-gen console! Until then, the 360 and the Wii are the way to go. PS3 can just gather dust until Sony does something truly new and refreshing with this juggarnuat of a machine. Hopefully, they'll do a redesign in the internal hardware and also a cosmetic change because the is console just looks ugly. Black? That's so last-gen! The controller? Why motion sensitivity? Sony has just blatantly copied off Nintendo AND Microsoft! Let's see: Triggers-Xbox(and PS3 has crappy triggers) A Guide button of sorts-Xbox 360, Motion Sensitivity-Nintendo. The Xbox 360 is the best next-gen console on the market. The Wii doesnt really count as a next-gen conole but Nintendo had the right mind in developing a gaming only machine. I don't hate the PS3, I just hate what it is right now, a piece of crap. I'll get one eventually when I see promising games and reasons to actually waste my $600 on one.

Did you know that this is a pile of FUD spread by the XBOX 360 side?

Nice to know anyway that 10-20% of the PS3 = 80-100% of the 360, since the games for both are usually identical.

So that's why MS decided to make their TOP OF THE LINE ELITE black?

Maybe Sony should redesign it so it sounds like a dustbuster vacuum when running, with a giant powerbrick hanging off the side. Take away Blu-ray disc, WiFi, Dolby TrueHD, SACD, etc.
In other words dumb down the PS3 to be more like the 360.

What is this, spring 2006? You want to talk games, the 360 library was considered pathetic until titles like "Dead Rising" and "Gears of War" showed up, and that was LATE 2006.

So, is it the PS/3 that is a piece of crap, or the game programmers?

If it never plays a great game, how can you lose if it is a worthy BD player?

Default Ps3 V1.8

I actually own a PS3 and a 360. Which one would I give up if I was forced to, that is hard to say right now. 4 months ago I would have said the PS3 without a doubt. Now that answer is leaning more to the 360. The 360 elite has left me with a bad taste in my mouth. MS has been saying, or at least hinting to us that it can send a digital signal out of the 360 (i.e. a HDMI cable for the regular 360). What a punch in the face when they came out with the elite. No more chance for HDMI out of my 360. No chance of 1080P from my 360 (unless I buy the VGA cord, but WTF am I going to plug that into, my 19" monitor?) $150+ for a 120 GB hard drive, what a joke. I can buy twice as much of a hard drive for my PS3 for that price. On a positive note I give the 360 an A+ for its store, I always buy new episodes of South Park when they come out, and an A+ for games, but the games are kind of slowing down for the 360, GRAW 2 and Guitar Hero 2 are the only two games that are worth talking about that have come out in the past few months. The PS3 has impressed me and made me happy with every new update. I can upscale DVD's to a womping 1080P and yes, you can tell the differance, and it is GOOD!! I can download PS1 games and upscale PS1 and 2 games to 1080P and yes, you can tell the differance, and it is GOOD!! I own a number of BR's, some are better than others. I have my PS3 hooked up to my wireless roter with no additional dongle to buy, I had to pay $100 for my 360 usb wireless adapter. I can't wait to see what the PS3 brings me in the next few months. Every month around the 20th I will be waiting to see. And I hope that the summer games that we are being promised are kick ass.

Exclamation PS3 is a solid machine

Well I dont agree with most of the 360 fanboys.
I accept the fact that we probably wont see any killer games for the PS3 until next year but the same thing happened with the 360. When i got the 360 the only games out were total Crap. Only after abt8months did we c decent titles ship.
The Red light (ring) of death on the 360!!!!! Everyone forgot that ????The havoc it created.
Now to play 1080p Games i have to buy another fregging 360 that too in BLACK lol (Is elite trying to pass off for the PS3?)
To watch 1080p movies I have to buy an extra player costing $200,
HOW THE HELL ON EARTH IS PS3 Expensive????????????
I have bot the 360 and PS3, I love the 360 for the games out right now and PS3 for allowing me to watch hi def movies at a very cheap cost.
So I think the PS3 is a must have if you can afford it.Otherwise just keep wishing u had one hehe

Finally got internet service back up and running last Friday.

PS3 as a web browser...

What web-based video can it play? It's not doing QT (apple trailers site) and it looks like it doesn't do Macromedia Flash? Can I load the the sw to play these file types on the PS3?

About the only thing I've found so far that plays is youtube. What sort of files are on youtube?

This would be possible if they reduce the size of the Cell chip. Then the smaller chip would just require a heat sink and it'll be set. But I currently like the form factor of the PS3. It feels solid like a great piece of AV hardware should be.

Even if they reduced the CELL processor size it still would require a fan I think, since it runs at 3.2GHz. It wouldn't run that much cooler, and surrounding components still need air circulation.

For all the talk about PS3 fan noise, it's DEAD SILENT compared to my 360. Hell, I've left the thing on a couple times by accident (the PS3, not the 360).
