Remaking Hitchcock is already a tough call. Not all of his films are great and some are even bad but his good ones are damned good.

I agree with your statement about thrillers not being the draw they might have been. The 80s and 90s had some all time greats for sure but the genre tends to be bland and/or just doesn’t have the right cast to add any gravitas to the whole thing. I dunno.
