Deadpool & Wolverine was the first to have a 4K with no forced subs, so no, you're wrong. And even if it was brought up in that thread, Brave New World is the first to actually require forced subs (for English speakers, of course). And even if it was mentioned in that thread, Tober27 wasn't aware of it, so it was worth bringing up here. So how about you go take a chill pill?

Deadpool & Wolverine didn't have non-English dialog that's why.

I don't need to take any pill. Just stop rambling about things that have already been answered.

The 3D Non-English subs has been an issue since the 3D discs began getting released only in Japan, which started with Black Widow. Happinet just took over with Deadpool. They just kept up the same practice.

That wasn't a question.

We're talking about the included 4K discs though. Those are what changed. You used to be able to watch with forced subs and/or rip the forced subs from them. They are now Japanese only discs with no forced subs. It appears that Happinet is now producing these instead of using international discs that included both English and Japanese. This is a new issue. It wasn't pertinent with Deadpool & Wolverine, but it is with Brave New World.

And, by the way, I'm not ripping on Happinet. I'm happy that they're still producing 3D discs. But you can be upset about a situation without placing blame. Just 'cause I'm sad it's raining doesn't mean I'm mad at the clouds.

Well, if there's a silver lining until I read through this I didn't actually realise that no forced subs on the 4K was now an issue so I've learnt something. When I made my own rip of my BNW 4K disc there were English subtitles and audio as an option, and I just assumed there were no forced subtitle track because they weren't needed. I haven't actually watched it yet.
.
I'll actually stick the disc into my player tonight to see what happens.

To me, when I hear the phrase "forced subs" I think of a subtitle track that is forced with an audio track in that it cannot be switched off. It's more "default" than "forced" if you can just turn it off.

There are no forced subs on any Marvel disc as far as I know. What we are talking about here is the English subtitle track for just the non-English dialogue. This has never been included on any of the Japanese exclusive 3D discs but it's a sad development that it's now not being included on the 4K disc either. We should be grateful that we are still getting a full English subtitle track really.

Well, I apologize to Jlardonio for telling him to take a chill pill, but I honestly was taken aback by his response when I was just trying to help out.

I just went with "forced subs" 'cause others were using it and it's shorter than "non-English dialogue subs." (NEDS?) I am happy for those who like captions for the whole movie or are willing to turn them on and off, but that's just not me. I do find it a bit weird though that they'd include one set of English subs and not the other. Maybe for Japanese speakers who are trying to learn English? Anyways, not expecting anything, but maybe Happinet will add them back one day. It's worth checking on from release to release.

I was referring more to Jlardonio and Waverboy's last few posts as those were contributing nothing but in any case I hope that particular discussion has run its course now that it is clear what the subtitle issues are with this release.

You are right in that "forced subs" is being quite commonly used now to describe "English subtitles for only non-English dialogue" but I think it's highly misleading when it is used to refer to subtitles that can be switched off. Many French discs default to French subtitles when the English audio track is selected and the discs disable the option to turn them off so to me those are true forced subtitles.

I think for the foreseeable future we can assume that Japanese MCU releases will not be including separate English subtitle tracks for any non-English dialogue.

I think you're right, but hope springs eternal. I just don't want anyone to get mad if I pop in to confirm that Thunderbolts* doesn't have them either.

I GUARANTEE that the Thunderbolts* (they should have just called it Black Widow 2) 3D Blu-ray will NOT contain a separate track for the Russian dialogue scenes, same as Black Widow.

As for the 4K disc, given that the last couple of releases have only included Japanese and English subtitles I would bet money on them doing the same for Thunderbolts*. What subtitles are on the regular Blu-rays in the sets?

Once someone confirms the details I will update the first post so there won't be any need to repeat the information.

I wouldn't bet against you! I don't know if you're asking rhetorically, but if not, I'm pretty sure the blu-rays have never had partial English subs. My memory's a bit foggy for the earlier releases, but I've always had to look elsewhere for the subs to add to the 3D. I just took a look at Black Widow, and it has full English subs, so I'm assuming they all do. And if you were asking rhetorically and you're point is that the 4Ks should be the same going forward, again, you're probably right. I just noticed that the Polish release has full English subs as well, so I guess it just comes as a package with the rights to the English audio. Or however it works. Well, thanks for dashing my tiny hopes!

You can always hope but I think it's helpful to set your expectations based on evidence. Every Japanese MCU release (at least since Black Widow) has had a full English subtitle track as well as a Japanese subtitle track. What none of them have had is a separate subtitle track for just the non-English dialogue on the 3D disc but the 4K discs have apparently included this up until recently.

What changed? It might be a coincidence but the dropping of the subtitle track happened at the same time as the distribution switch that has stopped us all ordering from Amazon Japan directly. As that situation remains the same, so I imagine will the subtitle situation.

What hope I had was due to English subs being included at all, like maybe there was a Japanese market for it. But with Poland being the same, I no longer think that. And looking at the other available languages on those older 4Ks (English, Spanish, and Canadian French), it appears that Disney just tacked Japanese onto the North American discs to save some production costs. So, yeah, it's the switch to Happinet, and it's not gonna change unless it reverts back to Disney. I'm convinced now.

Yeah a non-english translations subtitle track is what I mean. You're correct in that Marvel technically don't do 'forced subs' as such, as you said they just use a separate track set to default.
