Mine arrived about 4 days after it shipped. Their estimates are usually very conservative.

I have been wondering about this. What is missing from the US 4 disc release that the BBC version has? Is it just the two episodes on disc 5?

In any event, the UK BBC version is fantastic. The packaging is a bit fragile though, and not as nice and compact as the US BBC version. I can deal with it for the price point though. A must have.

I have yet to watch my copy, but my understanding is that the 5th disk which is in 1080I (all other disks are 1080P) is about Snow Leopards.

Disc 5 has two episodes - Desert Lions, and Snow Leopards.

I guess a bonus is a bonus... but... 1080I?

Default Playback Issue on Planet Earth?

I have noticed when watching Planet Earth there are several spots where the image gets kinda jaggy and is almost like a VCR with the tracking slightly off.

This is particular noticable in the water episode with Angel Falls right before they show the falls.

I first thought I had a bad disc, but obtained another copy from Netflix and had the indentical problem?

Is anyone else aware of issue with Planet Earth? I have a PS3 with latest firmware. I rented dozens of Blu-ray from Netflix and this is the only title I have ever had an issue with.

is this the BBC version or the Discovery Channel one?

Discovery Channel:1080i

BBC:1080p

the bitrate on the Discovery edition is a bit lower and has been discussed quite frequently over the last 18 months...many have stated that they can find spots of pixelation and blurrieness...a couple spots surely doesn't ruin the whole production.

Read some online reviews..they will say the same thing.

All discs are like that - it's an issue with some of the cameras used. Get over it.

Check the back cover, in the little print it's stated that some shots are not in HD. I have the 4 disc David Attenborough version

What is the way to tell them apart? What's the stock number of the "better" version?

According to earlier posts, the Discovery version is in 1080i, and the BBC is in 1080p.

Another clear way to tell them apart would be to look for "BBC Video" on the cover, versus "Discovery Channel", but that might be a little bit too obvious.

Also, the Discovery version is a shot of the earth with the Sun rising over it at about the 2 o'clock position, the BBC version is a shot of elephants running and birds flying on a wide-open greenfield.

Default New case for Planet Earth

Girlfriend gave me Planet Earth for Valentine's and the moment I took it out of the hardcover case a portion of the case towards the bottom just fell out as soon as I opened it. What's frustrating is that this was the piece that holds the folding part in place for the multiple BDs.

I forgot about it until I re-watched an episode the other day. Is there any place where I could purchase this special case?

Thumbs up Response from Warner Brothers and BBC America

I have contacted both Warner Brothers Entertainment as well as BBC America about this issue and have received the similar responses from both. I am including their emails below:

BBC America Customer Service: Planet Earth (Response #274709)

Hi ****,

It is 1080i. There was a typo but it has since been corrected. Sorry for the confusion!

Kind Regards,

****

RE: Possible Misprint?

Hi ****,

I got an answer for you. It seems that there was an error on the initial run of this title. After that run, it was corrected to reflect the right format, which is 1080i. I hope this helps you.

Kind regards,
****
Warner Brothers

Original message I sent to Warner Brothers for your reference:

Hello ****,

I was speaking to **** from BBC America earlier and she thought you might be able to help me with clarification on a possible misprint. I am looking at the 4 disc box set of Planet Earth (BBC Video Edition) and am noticing a suddle difference between two of the boxes. They both have the same ISBN number, barcode, and price, but one of them says the video format is 1080i and the other says 1080p. Is this a misprint or were there actually two different versions released?

For your reference:

ISBN 1-4198-5180-2
Barcode 794051400123

Thank you for all your help,
me
