The more I think about it the more I think I will buy it. I love the movie too much not to. I sold the DVD months ago in anticipation of the Blu-ray so I want a copy. $20 is not going to break me. But if I find the PQ horrible I'll write Paramount telling them so being one of their customers who actually bought their product.

It all depends on what the reviewer says. If it has an overall score of 4 or above, then its a buy for me.

A. ITS GLADIATOR!!! Come on this movie is great! Just be happy we have such a great movie that exists and we are able to enjoy it in some capacity!!!

B. The Product clearly has its defects. From what i have seen with this format most studios are quick to compensate/replace for major mistakes! Which this appears to be! So rest easy that something will come out and everyone will eventually be satisfied!

C. This is just my opinion so please don't personally attack my intelligence or anything else for that matter! Thanks!

D. ITS GLADIATOR!!! Also i will be Buying it along with Braveheart on Tuesday!

All that praise and the willingness to overlook its flaws and you say you don't own any previous version of it? I would have figured you had both versions of the DVD.

Never get rid of your dvd until you decide the Blu-ray is worthy of the upgrade.
99 times out of 100 the blu will be worth the double dip , but this is that one out of 100 if you believe the words of all who have seen it. Unless Paramount get 100,000 complaints they won't give a crap as long as they sell lots of copies

This is for all regions.
Unless the reviews are universally 4-5 stars for audio and video, dont' care so much for the bonuses, I won't buy it sight unseen. Lower than 4, I'd rent it first and decide from there.

Don't encourage studios to make bad disks by buying whatever they make. That'll never change their attitude.

Even though my enthusiasm for what should be a flagship title has been greatly diminished I shall still buy it for the following reasons.
I like the film a lot.
It should still look better than an upscaled DVD
I've never seen the extended cut
I'd be surprised if there's a withdrawal/remaster/replacement
I don't think there will be a 10th anniversary edition as its too close to this issue so unless there's rioting in the streets this'll be as good as it gets for the foreseeable future.
I have more money than sense (£1.62)

Nah. I figured what you meant, and that's why I pointed to another Sony launch title that's considered to have an awful transfer but hasn't seen a remaster. And I know Sony has the original film master for that in their possession.

Yeah I've only been burned once as to DVD to Blu-ray quality (Total Recall), but I assumed such a huge title like Gladiator would not be in the same company. And I totally don't expect Paramount to take any action, regardless if you buy the title or not. But you never know, they may want to save face regarding their fancy Sapphire label. So I'll let them know in writing anyway.

I ordered Gladiator and Braveheart before I heard about the PQ issues with Gladiator. They both arrived on Friday. Gladiator is watchable, but at times, it looks like an upscaled DVD thanks to the filtering and edge enhancement. Braveheart, on the other hand, looks fantastic -- absolutely pristine.

I guess I would still buy Gladiator if I had a choice because I sold my DVD when the BD was announced. If I still owned the DVD, it would be a tougher decision.

Cancelled my order today and added it on Netflix. Really hope it isn't that bad. Ordered Braveheart instead.

Sadly this reminds me of the early days of DVD.

I have to wonder if 'THX' has put their seal of approval on this release like they did for all those bad DVD transfers way back when.

I'll be purchasing GLADIATOR. Have an odd feeling Ridley Scott will demand a replacement program for the first disc. Alot like Disney did for PotC 1 replacement program.
I own both the Signature Selection 2-Disc and the Extended Edition 3-Disc.
So yeah I'll be patiently waiting the announcement there'll be a replacement program for a version without DNR/EE. Same thing which The Fifth Element received for a remaster.
I'll tell Charlie de Lauzirika about this.

Flaming arrows are apparently DNR'd out of existence in mid flight.

Either that or it was the Roman Stealth Archers in operation.

ok so from what i heard by skimming the forums is that it has dissapearing fireballs you wont notice in fast time, it's DNR and ppl compared to the Dark Knight's picture which i happend to love the PQ of that. and ppl say it's not the best but beats the dvd release easily? and the packaging and slipcover is sexy as is the movie itself. i think i'll buy this regardless and take my chances. the bad things i heard are irrelevent it seems and it wont effect my viewing pleasure at all.

Everyone is excited to get their copy of Gladiator on bluray. However, everyone who buys it now will just end up disappointed when they release the "fixed" copy. I know I would be. The smart thing would be to wait on the proper release instead of being stuck with second rate garbage while everyone else enjoys the "real deal".
