He got blocked by a dragon and made irrelevant at the final moment.

The show obviously does this on purpose to subvert expectations, and everyone and their mother has written about that, so I don't really get your fuming response as if I'm coming out of left field.

I always predicted Arya would do something. It was obvious the way they trained her like a ninja.

While there are plenty of Jon Snow fanboys that want him to be everything in the show, those same fans fail to see his importance in the most important kills of the show!

The night king was, is, and will always be secondary (actually third in priority if you really think about it).

The lord of light is a diversion, and didn't they make it clear that not only was Jon's path different, but so was Stannis.

The show is the show, and Jon used the tools that he provided. He armed his soldier with Needle and the dagger. He did so with the prophecy that he stated in the first episode with the Wolf.

"Fuming"?? Dude I am fine, and love engaging. I actually was having some fun with my post. Despite what some people think, words that are more than a paragraph do not equal anger.

I have said it before and I will say it. I choose to take a story for the what the creators want me to see (not the book writer, but the creators of the TV SHOW), and not what I want it to be.

The clues were everywhere and the failure of Stannis should have got you understanding that there were no rules when it came to this show. The Red Wedding was all the proof I needed. Heck they had me at Ned Stark. Anyone, and I mean anyone going into this thinking they could figure it all out obvioiusly were not paying attention to the first few surprise.

I prefer a Ninja to destroy what is a gimmick of an enemy. The real enemy is when honor is important.

p.s. Jon Snow blocked by a dragon, or the perfect diversion? Doesn't history teach us all that if Jon is Patton that scared the crap out of everyone with "prophecy", Arya was the Normandy invasion itself. Didn't make either one any less important to the grand scheme. Without Jon being there, the Dragon would be protecting the Night King. Far from useless.

Btw, but correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't the lord of light supposed to be about winning the war and taking the iron throne?? If Stannis prophecy, why wasn't he fighting the walkers first? C'mon, think fast? Are we seeing 2 different goals, or just the one you want?

Jon had the throne with ease. Again, I am not spoiling anything here, and you should respect that as well.

Where in all the Red Witch chants did she say "mgoolaaah wagoolih...magoola... you will be the one to defeat the zombies!!!" "it is you that will stab all monsters in eyes, hearts, heads, and fire......no one else will do anything it is you you you!!!"

Uh or did the Red Witch say that her reading from the Lord of Light was at fault and she was just a tad bit depressed?

I didn't mean fuming as an insult, but I can see how it reads that way. Sorry 'bout that. I enjoy engaging as well. You obviously know the show much better than me though, so I can't really debate the particulars. I've only watches season 4 and up once.

I just know as a casual fan there the narrative got a lot less interesting when the books ran out, and then the last two seasons felt like a clusterf**k that didn't pay off the buildup. I think I'm far from alone in that, judging by the internet. However the internet also hates Temple of Doom, and f**k them for that, so I'm glad you enjoy it.

I almost sent an apology after I thought about my tone later.

I appreciate that you got my sarcasm is not meant to be vicious.

The books running out no doubt had an impact. I don't think it felt so much as rushed (the episodes were 1 hour and 20 min at the end actually!) as it felt a bit thrown together at the very end with just not knowing what to do with the throne. Still, I liked it in a weird way, just wish it would have been executed better. In so many ways, it was just too hard to top. I did love the last shots of the show and felt satisfied enough. Snow was finally happy.

But yeah, I have watched the show 4 times through now. Trust me, it truly gets better with every watch. The details are just grand. It never got boring to me, but I am finally moving on...to extras. lol

I have enjoyed the back and forth as well. Made me really think about it. I was like quick wife...link Snow to Arya, you just have to!!! The needle comment was hers.

Overall I think season 7 and 8 work alot better when viewed back to back it’s almost like 1 regular season in the overall show but with 3 extra long episodes lol

The almost 2 year gap although needed I’m sure for filming purposes really stilted the narrative when S8 returned to insane hype that it was never gonna fulfil with so many different characters

When you think about season 1 of this show alot actually does happen in those 10 episodes that sets up the entire show. Dany and Khal, Ned had a huge impact in so few episodes as did many others

think about season 7/8 as one whole alot happens to wrap it up its kinda the same thing now I agree it does move extremely fast and it’s not perfect but it ain’t the doom and gloom it was made out to be when it aired

I'll watch the later seasons again someday, maybe it'll change my mind. As you say, it felt thrown together and that bothered me a lot. It felt like they crapped all over Martin's books and delicate plan. But... we will see. I'm having a hard time finding time for anything lately, movie/show wise, but someday!

Anyone that didn't see
[Show spoiler]Arya rising
wasn't paying attention.

If you didn't notice
[Show spoiler]Dany's downfalls
building by around S5 or S6, at least, then you might have been looking for more simple character development. She was a complex character and it shows how much one can
[Show spoiler]like a character that eventually goes bad, or was destined to from the beginning.

If you were shocked that
[Show spoiler]Jon didn't become King of Westeros,
you don't understand how GRRM rolls (and you probably didn't read the books). It wasn't a problem for me. Also,
[Show spoiler]Bran becoming kind was of NO surprise to me (even though that hasn't happened yet in the books).

Also, only the book readers know that the end was not any more rushed than season 1 (someone just one page up mentioned that stuff has been left out from the beginning of the series). Okay, maybe a little more rushed (skipping time frames to get to the meat of the next chapter), but not catastrophically so.

You can disagree with this all you want—I'm simply having my say, that the series was not as bad as some of you are making it. I re-watched the entire series when the UHD set came out and loved every moment of it.

This was exactly my experience, it was just amazing start to finish, especially in 4K. Also helps I've read the books, a big thing in Khaleesi’s head thats barely hinted at in the show; she was never quite convinced her father was ‘mad’.

I saw
[Show spoiler]Dany’s
downfall from Season 1 and still found the last season weak and rushed. It’s not the ending I disliked, but how the ending was put together and written. I think Benioff & Weiss aren’t talented writers. The need to reshoot the pilot and the stories of writers talking about being assigned chapters to adapt from the books. Shows that it was the books that were good and not them. The proof to me is when season 5 starts to run out of material and they betray characters with their ideas.

I mean that was obvious, but is not the same thing as being the key to what she was the key to while John was comically rendered inert. I agree on Dany and John's eventual outcomes. The outrage over Dany's heel turn was ridiculous since it was broadcasted from day one.

Anyway... most of it is about execution. The white walker resolution is the only real overall plot development I didn't like, it was more how they handled those developments. If you don't see the huge drop off in execution I saw around season 5/6ish, then good. I'm happy you have a complete and good experience. I can't pretend I didn't experience it differently though.

Thank you. I really only wanted Blackwater in 4K (besides season 1) and now I won't have to buy the whole series.

I got this set for Christmas and I find it a bit strange that the House Clegane sigil was used for the cover of Season Four instead of House Martell or House Tyrell. Those would have been better options.

It really was one extended season with an extended intermission between halves. 7 seasons is what D&D intended from the beginning to have - 1 for each novel.

Not to beat a dead horse, but I don't see how John was "inert". It was his actions that changed the story time and time again to him becoming what he always wanted to be.
[Show spoiler]How many times did he say "I never wanted it"? He believed in duty first and just like Kane in Kung Fu, when the job was done it was time to move on and walk the earth as a free man.

Though we did go over this, something is nagging at me.

[Show spoiler]You would agree that the white walkers were a secondary element right? The Iron Throne was front and center on the posters, it was all that was talked about, and it was the key to almost every major character in the story.

When the witch would talk about prophecy, white walkers weren't even in the equation other than being an annoyance to get out of the way of the real goal.

Of course as we discussed before, without Jon even the resolution of the White Walkers would have been "inert" without his actions. He was the key to everything hands down and Arya was simply a soldier. To have Jon be the resolutions would be so stupid and hollywood BS and not to mention put him so over the top of doing everything that it would render the story (that is in the FILMED VERSION) useless. Jon was a leader reigning down fire, and he was doing everything he could with an injured Dragon blowing blue fire out the side of his face because he had done so much damage with his Dragon. He was the absolute perfect diversion. Again I compare him to Patton in WWII with the African South campaign. His reputation is what mattered, and if the Night King wanted to get real about the battle he would have been concentrating all forces on Bran in the woods because that is all that mattered to the cause.

Again without Jon, no sword for Arya so she can't fight. Without Jon no Valyrian dagger in Arya hands to do the deed. Without Jon the queen is not dead. Without Jon so many aspects of the story crumble to the ground. He united everyone, he took the challenges, and he even came back to life ala Re-Animator. "Inert"?? I don't see it. Dude was a GOD!

Is this set even worth picking up? All I am seeing is how your gonna get a disc that doesn't work. Is the upgrade worth it? I have the whole series on blu ray already.
