I'm obviously not saying Snow wasn't important to the plot itself. He's the closest thing the show has to a main protagonist, and is connected to pretty much all events. However the plot with the lord of light and his lineage and all that absolutely implied he would be THE central figure in defeating the zombies, and it was absolutely a "twist" that he was not. He got blocked by a dragon and made irrelevant at the final moment.
The show obviously does this on purpose to subvert expectations, and everyone and their mother has written about that, so I don't really get your fuming response as if I'm coming out of left field. |

While there are plenty of Jon Snow fanboys that want him to be everything in the show, those same fans fail to see his importance in the most important kills of the show! The night king was, is, and will always be secondary (actually third in priority if you really think about it). Quote:
The show is the show, and Jon used the tools that he provided. He armed his soldier with Needle and the dagger. He did so with the prophecy that he stated in the first episode with the Wolf. "Fuming"?? Dude I am fine, and love engaging. I actually was having some fun with my post. Despite what some people think, words that are more than a paragraph do not equal anger. I have said it before and I will say it. I choose to take a story for the what the creators want me to see (not the book writer, but the creators of the TV SHOW), and not what I want it to be. The clues were everywhere and the failure of Stannis should have got you understanding that there were no rules when it came to this show. The Red Wedding was all the proof I needed. Heck they had me at Ned Stark. Anyone, and I mean anyone going into this thinking they could figure it all out obvioiusly were not paying attention to the first few surprise. I prefer a Ninja to destroy what is a gimmick of an enemy. The real enemy is when honor is important. p.s. Jon Snow blocked by a dragon, or the perfect diversion? Doesn't history teach us all that if Jon is Patton that scared the crap out of everyone with "prophecy", Arya was the Normandy invasion itself. Didn't make either one any less important to the grand scheme. Without Jon being there, the Dragon would be protecting the Night King. Far from useless. Btw, but correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't the lord of light supposed to be about winning the war and taking the iron throne?? If Stannis prophecy, why wasn't he fighting the walkers first? C'mon, think fast? Are we seeing 2 different goals, or just the one you want? Jon had the throne with ease. Again, I am not spoiling anything here, and you should respect that as well. Quote:
Uh or did the Red Witch say that her reading from the Lord of Light was at fault and she was just a tad bit depressed? Last edited by slimjean; 02-21-2021 at 09:24 PM. |

I just know as a casual fan there the narrative got a lot less interesting when the books ran out, and then the last two seasons felt like a clusterf**k that didn't pay off the buildup. I think I'm far from alone in that, judging by the internet. However the internet also hates Temple of Doom, and f**k them for that, so I'm glad you enjoy it. |

I appreciate that you got my sarcasm is not meant to be vicious. The books running out no doubt had an impact. I don't think it felt so much as rushed (the episodes were 1 hour and 20 min at the end actually!) as it felt a bit thrown together at the very end with just not knowing what to do with the throne. Still, I liked it in a weird way, just wish it would have been executed better. In so many ways, it was just too hard to top. I did love the last shots of the show and felt satisfied enough. Snow was finally happy. But yeah, I have watched the show 4 times through now. Trust me, it truly gets better with every watch. The details are just grand. It never got boring to me, but I am finally moving on...to extras. lol I have enjoyed the back and forth as well. Made me really think about it. I was like quick wife...link Snow to Arya, you just have to!!! The needle comment was hers. ![]() |

Overall I think season 7 and 8 work alot better when viewed back to back it’s almost like 1 regular season in the overall show but with 3 extra long episodes lol
The almost 2 year gap although needed I’m sure for filming purposes really stilted the narrative when S8 returned to insane hype that it was never gonna fulfil with so many different characters When you think about season 1 of this show alot actually does happen in those 10 episodes that sets up the entire show. Dany and Khal, Ned had a huge impact in so few episodes as did many others think about season 7/8 as one whole alot happens to wrap it up its kinda the same thing now I agree it does move extremely fast and it’s not perfect but it ain’t the doom and gloom it was made out to be when it aired |

I'll watch the later seasons again someday, maybe it'll change my mind. As you say, it felt thrown together and that bothered me a lot. It felt like they crapped all over Martin's books and delicate plan. But... we will see. I'm having a hard time finding time for anything lately, movie/show wise, but someday!

Anyone that didn't see
[Show spoiler] wasn't paying attention. If you didn't notice [Show spoiler] building by around S5 or S6, at least, then you might have been looking for more simple character development. She was a complex character and it shows how much one can [Show spoiler] If you were shocked that [Show spoiler] you don't understand how GRRM rolls (and you probably didn't read the books). It wasn't a problem for me. Also, [Show spoiler] Also, only the book readers know that the end was not any more rushed than season 1 (someone just one page up mentioned that stuff has been left out from the beginning of the series). Okay, maybe a little more rushed (skipping time frames to get to the meat of the next chapter), but not catastrophically so. You can disagree with this all you want—I'm simply having my say, that the series was not as bad as some of you are making it. I re-watched the entire series when the UHD set came out and loved every moment of it. Chris |

I saw
[Show spoiler] downfall from Season 1 and still found the last season weak and rushed. It’s not the ending I disliked, but how the ending was put together and written. I think Benioff & Weiss aren’t talented writers. The need to reshoot the pilot and the stories of writers talking about being assigned chapters to adapt from the books. Shows that it was the books that were good and not them. The proof to me is when season 5 starts to run out of material and they betray characters with their ideas.

Anyway... most of it is about execution. The white walker resolution is the only real overall plot development I didn't like, it was more how they handled those developments. If you don't see the huge drop off in execution I saw around season 5/6ish, then good. I'm happy you have a complete and good experience. I can't pretend I didn't experience it differently though. |

It really was one extended season with an extended intermission between halves. 7 seasons is what D&D intended from the beginning to have - 1 for each novel.

Is this set even worth picking up? All I am seeing is how your gonna get a disc that doesn't work. Is the upgrade worth it? I have the whole series on blu ray already.
