WB did a good job restoring it.

The other 2 won't be on my shopping list this lifetime.

Now where is the Bogart/Bacall set?

Warner Archive posted these two pictures on their FB page last week, each without any comment. Here's hoping!

Oh wow. It'd be kind of sad if these were only released through WAC, but I'll take them anyway I can get them

Why would it be sad? We are going to buy these off the internet anyway. WAC would be a few dollars more that's the only difference. The cover art will be better as well. Key Largo isn't going to be carried in stores (maybe Barnes & Noble).

Oh, and, incidentally...

That horribly awkward moment when you realize that the awesome 49" LG 4K UHD television that you have owned for the past two months, and with which you have been marveling at the impeccable picture quality of Blu-rays after calibrating the technical settings to your specifications, has been on the picture setting of "16:9" instead of "Just Scan/Screen Fit" like it should be, and that you never noticed the error until you tried to look for rounded corners on your Pitfall Blu-ray...

*sigh*

Oh well, the problem is solved now. I changed my picture setting to "Just Scan" shortly after starting Pitfall last night, and then started the movie over.

I'm tempted to re-watch all of the Blu-rays that I've watched on the new television over the past couple of months, but I'll do that in time anyway, and, for most of them, the difference in picture quality was only negligible at best.

So, most people may gripe at the rounded corners on the transfer of Pitfall, but I'm glad that they are there and that I knew to look for them, because they reminded me of how much I suck.

I don't think he's doing a commentary track for Gilda. The Criterion listing says it's an interview while the commentary is by film critic Richard Schickel. If there was a Muller track, I'd probably double-dip for it (I'm currently happy with the Italian release).

D'oh!
I'm seriously jealous that you even have Pitfall. You must be a Prime member or something? I pre-ordered through Amazon the day it went up (with free shipping option) and my order as of right now says Shipping soon. Sort of kicking myself I didn't get it elsewhere, but didn't think it would take this long to just get it out the door

I assume you mean sad in the sense that the film won't be on store shelves which would give it greater exposure. From a technical standpoint, the 5 WAC Blu-rays that I own (including the 3 noir films) have all been stellar, top-shelf releases and I'm sure Key Largo will be as well.

I also pre-ordered it as soon as it went up and they didn't ship it until the Thursday after the release date. It did arrive by Saturday afternoon though.

Yeah, the former. I have no probs with WAC's quality

I've been watching it like a hawk, it switched to Shipping Soon overnight so hopefully I have it by the weekend. Really can't wait to revisit the film in HD!

I had an issue similar. When I watch TCM and their garbage prints I have to make it 16:9 otherwise there is an annoying white line at the top throughout the movie. I forgot to switch it back and didn't notice for about 3 months.

Well that's fantastic!

Unfortunately no commentary:

Hello Michael,

Thanks for writing. Criterion's GILDA release includes a commentary by
film critic Richard Schickel. Eddie Muller didn't record a commentary
for this release, but there is a new on camera interview with him that
is included in this release. I hope this is helpful, please feel free
to write again if you have additional questions.

All the best,
Jon Mulvaney

I deleted my previous post about the commentary track so there wasn't any misleading information, I apologize for the inconvenience. Maybe he meant to say interview and was side tracked or something of that nature I am unsure, anyway again I'm sorry for the wrong information in that earlier post. Thanks for clearing that up!

I recently picked up the BFI release of Night and the City for the Richard Widmark interview from 2002. It is the best feature I have ever seen on a blu-ray.

I rewatched The Naked Gun this afternoon, and after watching 22 noir films in November, realized just how noir-ish this parody classic is. From the inner monologue voice over to the femme fatale.....

...should it be on the noir list....somewhere?

Double Indemnity, Out of the Past, and The Maltese Falcon are essential films in my opinion.
