I don't envy whoever has to make the next film. Colin did as any filmmaker should do: Make a great stand alone film without focusing on sequel bait. The problem is that theres just not much for them to do in the next film. Where do they go from there?

Oh, he set up the sequels - militarization of dinosaurs. It was very intentional to expand into a new trilogy, he has spoken about it in interviews. Along with most of his directing choices, it stood out like a sore, bloody thumb.

Yeah, but that's a terrible idea. And it's resolved in this film. It's a terrible idea.

I enjoyed Jurassic World, but for me, it was basically a shoddily written movie whose script and marketing bet heavy (and won big) on nostalgia for the original Jurassic Park. A sequel to this movie will have to be something fresh and I can't imagine what they can do that will be worth it. Strip away the Jurassic Park nostalgia and Jurassic World is just another lousy Jurassic Park sequel, IMO.

Whatever's the reason, I too am disappointed we haven't seen the Dilo again in three sequels. It's one of the most iconic animals from the first film and a huge fan favorite, I don't get it. Some have speculated that the filmmakers want to steer clear of it because of how scientifically inaccurate it is, but I can't imagine that's the reason, most of JP's dinosaurs are completely different from the real animals they're based on and have always been. Hell, with this movie they intentionally contradicted various discoveries that have been made since the '90s because they felt continuity was more important than scientific accuracy. No way! It won't be Jurassic Park without the raptors and especially the T. rex being present in some capacity. I can understand (and agree with) not wanting them to hog up all the dinosaur screen time, but then that's only really been an issue with the raptors lately; featured very prominently in both JPIII and JW. The T. rex on the other hand showed up for a minute to get curb stomped by the Spinosaurus in JPIII and had a glorified sort-of-comeback cameo in JW. |

The T-Rex situation in JPIII was my #1 issue with that film. I waited for the whole movie for two of them to come back for a rematch. It made me loathe JPIII for years until I watched it again more recently and was able to let go of that disappointment. Then JW gave me the comeback I needed. It probably made me love JW than I might have otherwise. Tyrannosaurus IS Jurassic Park. It's in the damn logo.

It's an awesome idea and it was not resolved. Ingen took the data and WU to MAKE the Indominus again but raptor sized. They say so in the movie. And I for one would hope the next movie starts with them in actual combat. Would be amazing.

There are definitely "wild" dinosaurs in the film. Forgive me for not being enough of a dino geek to say what the breed was, but when they took off on the Gyrosphere out of the broken gate, they came across those turtle-like dinos hanging out before Indominus came over to eat them up. That entire sequence took place outside of the attraction itself. That said, I did find it odd - it wasn't explained nor explored very well (why WOULD they have wild dinos, even non-aggressive ones?). But they were definitely there in the film. |

I'm also not very fond of the Spinosaurus. With the Tyrannosaurs in the first two movies, while they do some over the top stuff (as they have to, they're playing the roles of movie monsters), I felt like the movies always remembered that they're animals, and they never did anything that seemed too out there for a large animal. The Spinosaurus on the other hand is a pure bloodthirsty monster, basically a slasher villain in dinosaur form. JPIII in general is really the point where the dinosaurs went from being at least somewhat convincing as animals to just being mindless killing machines. You can say the same about the Indominus rex, sure, but at least they had an excuse for its behavior however out there it was. Quote:
As for why/how there'd be wild dinosaurs on the other side of the wall, the implication seems to be that they'd be surviving animals from the first park, or descendants of animals that were kept in the first park. We know there must have been some since the original T. rex is back, obviously she survived all those years and then they captured her again. I guess the wild dinosaurs would be a few individuals that managed to hide from whatever people got the job of rounding up all the free roaming dinosaurs for the new park. |
