Agreed, I'm not impressed with what I've seen from a texture standpoint. Sure, these are SDR converted pics, but so were the other well done UHDs and their SDR converted pics looked very good. With that said they are an improvement over the BD, but...

Once those Comin' At Ya dinos and environs break free from their static plane and immerse you in enveloping 3D, you'll gladly run as much grain, dirt and video noise to the mouth of the volcano for sacrifice as you can hoover up out of the best post-conversions. Jurassic 3D is an alternate version of the film--purists will not apply--but I don't doubt it's more impactful than the UHD for those receptive to the format. It'd be a fun study if Douglas Trumbull or someone wired people up, logged their visceral responses. Last edited by AllOuttaBubbleGum; 05-18-2018 at 05:11 AM. |

I don't think Dean Cundey will be happy with this UHD, since they took his blue lighting out of it. |

Exactly. I've seen iTunes 4K HDR version and it looked lovely. Don't expect anything close to The Mummy (in terms of details and HDR) but it really is the best this movie ever looked.

No need to panic. Watched it last night. It’s fine. Looks more like it did theatrically, a bit more detail. Very subtle HDR. Not spectacular, but certainly does the job. Definitely worth the upgrade if you love this movie.
Lost World is a bigger upgrade though imo. |

I wouldn’t judge UHD blu-ray fine detail based on a streaming version. I’ve seen more than enough examples of streaming versions (including 4K) collapsing a good amount of fine detail (and having digital artifacts) due to the low bitrates which streaming is currently limited to. It’s unfair to use video of 15-20mbps bitrates (from streaming) to make assumptions of what to expect from UHD blu-rays which I’ve seen go anywhere from 35mbps to as high as 100mbps depending on the scene/shot. HDR itself would be a bit more helpful to compare with streaming but even then I’d also take that with a grain of salt due to the same reasons.

Unlike with the previous caps I posted I forgot to add the disclaimer on those pics that they are for judging resolution only as the colors and dynamic range does in no way reflect what's on disc. I will now delete them and upload again later with the disclaimer stamped onto them. I apologize for any wrong impression those non-disclaimer caps may have caused. ![]() |

http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/113892 Many BD vs UHD movie comparisons that I have seen shows minimal differenes details wise, for example "Chappy" http://www.caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go...=71306&i=1&l=0 It's hard to tell what's BD, and what's UHD detail wise, while in JP I dont even need to quess becase JP UHD shows cleary more details and that's without UGLY EE (EE totally ruined BD for me). Grain on BD looks like shimmering mess because of EE, and on top of that first BD was too colorful (human faces were pink on my HDTV). JP UHD disc looks like a solid improvement overall, but of course if I would have to choose I would also prefer JP UHD transfer without any gran filtering. But thanks god grain is not completely removed like in Terminator 2 UHD and it's still there. http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/113889 And the thing is, these screenshots aren't even a proper SDR conversion ![]() ![]() Last edited by pawel86ck; 05-18-2018 at 10:27 AM. |
