Hans Zimmer’s ‘Dune 2’ Score Fails to Meet Eligibility Requirements for Oscars

Quote:
[...] Zimmer’s powerful and evocative score for the sci-fi epic is not eligible to be submitted for this year’s Oscars due to surpassing the Academy’s limit on pre-existing music; therefore, it cannot be nominated in the best original score category.

Just ordered a copy of D2 which IMO was leap-years better than 1.

As much as I love the score and think "Dune" (the whole thing) is Zimmer's masterpiece as a composer, it's a fair ruling. He doesn't really add anything new into the mix aside from Feyd-Rautha's theme whereas you can look at the "Star Wars" and "Lord of the Rings" films and notice the mountains of new themes and leitmotifs Williams and Shore composed for each.

Fair or not, Zimmer has a point. This isn't Dune 2, this is Dune Part Two. It is one movie split into two parts.

I a a huge fan of Zimmer scores but its pretty lazy to literally rehash the same score used in Dune Part 1.

Well, why would you go so wild on different for a literal part 2?

Dune is just Dune. It has one objective, that's literally broken in 2 parts. It'd be weird to just go wild on the 2nd half of the story while still leading to where part 1 was telling us they'd need to get to.

It's not like an Alien and Aliens. 2 films with very different points to make using the same property. Granted, the former started it and the latter went somewhere else with it, appropriately so.

Only 2 nominations at the Golden Globes. The movie is already snubbed.

Crazy that Denis didn't get a nomination. Wonder if they're all waiting for the third movie to shower him in awards, Lord of the Rings style.

Saw this opening weekend and liked it. Part 1 I liked better, as this gets a bit slowed down with some of the worship scenes where the Feren (spellling) are thinking Paul is their new leader. Everything else was good though.

The 4K disc doesn't even include a regular blu ray (these distributors are getting really cheap these days, while charging more), so even though it was 12.99 on sale in November, I rather just have the blu ray, which was selling for more. Just waiting for a good 12.99 deal for the blu ray.

Remember the days of 4K + Blu ray + DVD + Digital Copy + Bonus disc + Blu ray 3D sets? Mostly gone as of 2024.

They hate him because he's better than all of them.

There's definitely this sentiment going around, but I think he'll get nominated by the DGA and Academy.

For those who live in the Boston area, the Coolidge Corner Theater will be doing a “Dune” double feature on January 26th starting at 3:30pm.

Part 2 will be in 70mm.

I just watched my Blu-ray of Dune Part 2 last night. I enjoyed it, but they REALLY missed the boat by not releasing a 3D version. The 3D of Part 1 really elevated the film.

Rewatched this a little while back and came around to loving it and even put it at the top of my list of movies for 2024. Just took rewatching it with a proper perspective of the “whole” picture and a better understanding of Paul as a character and his story.

Well, welcome to the new normal. The free [combo package] ride is over.

If you did the B2G1 at Target for BF month, Dune bluray would have been $10. A lot of WB bluray titles were priced at $15.

I think Amazon also matched Target at $10.

Lots of blurays were the magical $10 which used to be $7.99.

Remember when Thor Love and Thunder 4K and Lightyear 4K was $6 through B2G1 at Target?
ahhhhh those were the days even though those two particular films were not great.

These days combo packs are now for Steelbooks. I'd like to point the finger at Disney for starting this trend, could be wrong but it seems Disney was first. The Little Mermaid remake.

By the way this was robbed maybe it came out way to far away from Award season. Still messed up. This should get all the awards instead it’s getting nothing. These awards shows is a god damn joke. Hell Nosferatu deserved to be nominated for many awards too.
