Gotta share this with y'all....from the shoot-out that Robert Zohn [ValueElectronics] did...

Quote:
At one point Zohn also revealed a "surprise contestant," which turned out to be the Pioneer Kuro PRO-141FD. I wasn't surprised when he mentioned that it beat the picture quality of all of the other 2011 models in the lineup, according to the audience.

Has ValueElectronics or anyone did a back to back comparison between the Pioneer vs Runco?

As far as I know, Runco does not have the scale to produce its own PDPs. So, Runco has to source its panels from a major OEM. That likely narrows the source to the three usual suspects -- Panasonic, Samsung, and LG. The downside seems that, since Pioneer exited the market, all OEM panels have significant shortcomings (e.g. rising black levels). Thus, Runco can add only so much value beyond the limitations inherent to the OEM panels in its sets.

Is that accurate?

Does anyone know where I can pick up a KRP-500m or a 101fd? Looking for damaged units as well. Thanks!

Hi fellow Kuro owners, I just had DNice back to recalibrate my 600M and 500M. You would be surprised how much the color changes over the course of a year. The blues on my 600M were really out of wack. But after a few hours of DNice's handywork and my sets were back to perfect picture quality. I have been really considering selling my 600M lately. What do you guys think I could get for it? I still have 2 yrs left on the extended warranty I purchased with it.Not to mention the side speakers and pedestal stand I got for it as well. In addition I just had it recalibrated so that has to add some value to it. Thanks guys and if you know anyone looking for a 60' Kuro let me know.If the person you refer to me ends up being a the buyer, there will be a finders fee rewarded.

Hows it going sarge? I'm going to get my Kuro's re-calibrated too. What do you want for that KRP? PM me if need be.

The Sharp Elite PRO-70X5FD and PRO-60X5FD are the best LCD’s on the market and almost as good as a 2008 Pioneer Kuro

After 3 long years, finally the 2008 Pioneer PRO-141FD can go head to head with the 2011 Sharp Elite PRO-60X5FD after calibration and when viewed from a center seat in the room. The new Sharp Elite is the best LCD screen with LED backlighting that Home Theater magazine and CNET has every reviewed so far. Sharp should be proud of making a display that is almost as good as a 2008 Pioneer Kuro in overall picture quality. In some picture quality areas the Sharp Elite outperforms the Pioneer Kuro in other areas like off angle viewing the Pioneer is King. The Sharp Elite is not enough of a so called improvement to justify a so called upgrade for existing Kuro owners. Also I know several family members with 50 inch Pioneer PRO-101FD's that cannot use a 60 inch or 70 inch Sharp Elite unless they replace their expensive TV cabinets in their bedrooms and mount the TV on the wall. I hope that maybe in the future consumers might see both a 50 inch and 80 inch second generation Sharp Elite (50 inches is wishful thinking). The 2011 60 inch Sharp PRO-60X5FD is 3.1 inches thick when compared to the 2008 Pioneer PRO-141FD which is only 2.5 inches thick.

For someone that does not already own a Pioneer display the Sharp Elites are the best available display on the market for 2011. If I did not have a 2008 Pioneer already I would have went with a Sharp Elite.

For at least 3 years the 2008 model Pioneer Kuro’s have been the King of flat panel picture quality. Around the year 2013 after the 2008 Pioneer is 5 years old there most likely will be one or more flat screens on the market that clearly beat the 2008 Pioneer Kuro in all areas or at least offer an overall better picture quality. Perhaps a second or third generation Sharp Elite will improve on off angle performance. Also I want a 3-D flat panel display that offers 144fps triple flash technology. The first generation Sharp Elite is 120Hz refresh rate and maybe future models will offer true 240Hz native refresh rate in 2-D.

Thanks for the info HDTV1080P ! I too would buy a couple/few Sharp Elites if I did not have my Kuro's. Speaking of buying! My neighbors getting rid of his KRP 500m. Not that I need another frickin panel but I offered $1000 & he thought that was to high , so I said $500 then??? He said he will think about it. I should know today sometime. Keep in mind he knows what he's got. (best display ever made) He only paid like $1,500 for brand new. Hell, when those KRP's popped up they were just giving those bad boys away. I would of bought some then but I had 3 Kuro's already & I only paid $3,850(out the door too) for my brand new pro-151FD in late 2008 I believe. Sh!+ It normally sold for either 6K or 6.5K can't remember now....

Sorry...
He said $500 was fair, so I bought it. It's has the stand and speakers too. It is in mint condition. What a frickin deal! All these people want $5,000 for their KRP when they only paid $1,500 - $2,000 for it. Not that they aren't worth a fair amount money but I hate people trying to get "rich" off selling their kuro.

I went ahead and gave the guy $1,000. (he only paid $1,500) I didn't feel right buying it for $500 bucks. I know everyone will say I'm an idiot for doing so but he's also a friend. He knew what he had & also knew he could get way more for it. I acutely encouraged him to do so, but he didn't want random people coming to look at it in his house (I don't blame him!) & then break in later.... Now I have 5 plasma's four of which are Kuro's. It might be time to get rid of my favorite trusty old 50" 60u panasonic.... she was my first 50" plazzy. She's still it perfect condition too.

From the front the KRP looks just like my 5020. I love how the KRP's and 5020/6020 say pioneer on the front bezel rather than Elite. I wish my 111 & 151 just said pioneer. I'm one of those rare people that does not care for the Elite badge at all.

The KRP is ISFccc calibrated but I'm going to have it re-calibrated for my HT room if need be....? It looks great so far. I know these go darker than the other Kuro's but really I don't see it. With Cali tools sure it might measure lower but I've looked into the abyss that is the Kuro's black hole. Black is black in kuro land. Look at my pics of kuro blacks , it just doesn't get any darker for the eye to see. Their so dark that you damn near go cross eyed peering into abyss. I love these TV's merry Xmas to me!

Make sure they're all protected with a proper surge protector that doesn't use mov's.

Well this is my first post in this thread. I am the proud owner of a 6020 that I bought new from Value Electronics back in '08 (I think, lol. Been so long that I can't exactly remember!). I have been using D-Nice' reference settings (it's not ISF'd) for it since after I did a few hours of break-in time and it has been my fav HT purchase other than my sub.

Question; I looked on AVS last night for the first time in a while and I came across a thread about some of the 9G Kuro's having a "reddish blacks" issue. Of course I said to myself that mine doesn't have that problem. Maybe it's just from me having that in my head now but I swear I was seeing that in mine last night. I'm hoping it's just me looking for that and my mind is playing tricks on me but has anyone else noticed this with theirs?

BTW anyone that has had D-Nice calibrate theirs, can you PM me how much he charged? Thanks!

Hmmm, I've noticed recently a few times on scenes that should be black that there is red in there. I believe it has always been along the bottom of the screen only. Pretty sure it was only on cable broadcasts also. I'm assuming it's poor quality source material.
