Default Dive Dive Dive!

I keep hearing of clearance Steelbooks in the bottomless bins... but can't ever find any. Today I felt lucky. At first I just did the swish and seek method trying to get down into the bin. I pulled 30-40 dvd's out and dumped them in bin #2 next to it to make some room. Then, I saw a smaller blu-ray box and grabbed it - heavy it was - Hunter Killer Steelbook. At this point I rolled up my sleeves and decided to take some time and go deeper. I moved enough dvd's out of the way to reach the bottom, then started quick stacking the bin making a stacked swirl. As I stacked about 30-40 dvd's, I'd find a hidden Steelbook... then another. I found 15 total (2 dups) in a sea of of 1,000 DVD's! No way could anyone see these things, and their weight sinks them to the bottom as people swish through. I moved on to bin #2. Sadly, there was nothing amongst the other 800 dump bin DVD's. From now on I will be persistent as it did pay off today!

My efforts:

Addicted... no. If it's a good deal I'm all over it. I bought Top Gun Steelbook for $12.99 on eBay rather than $15-$20 for the standard blue. I found E.T. for $18 as well and I will spend a few $ more for a Steelbook if I liked the movie or have some emotional connection to it. The movies that are unknown to me but good ratings (Das Boot for $8) or even B movie finds at DG for $5 or $10, Walmart bins, even eBay I will most likely pick up. Other than Dirty Dancing (wife loves this movie), Saw, and Total Recall, the other 10 I've maybe "heard" of (Sicario, Hunter Killer, another remake of Robin Hood) or not at all. Ratings on a few are low, but I may get around to watching them someday.

I have amassed a large collection of standard blu's in 1 month - over 600. Seems to be a good time as everyone dumps their physical media and many places aren't carrying them anymore. Even pawn shops aren't buying/selling them and just have what's left on the shelves if any. 95% of what I bought last month were $1-$3 each.

Funny, the most I've spent on a blu is $25 for a Steelbook of Maximum Overdrive. A cheesy movie but I remember watching it many times and instant nostalgia and had to have it! I think I'd do the same if I ever found Lawnmower Man on Steelbook.

This member's local WM had Killer Klowns from Outer Space 4K Steelbook in the $5 bin, and it rang up for that price too. Probably isolated to that one store, but worth checking out.

Wow, I wasn’t planning on buying KKFOS, but at that price, I would snatch it up haha!

Like you said, it’s probably just very YMMV type of thing (1 store screwing up).

Gotta love it when some kid automatically devaluates a movie just because it's on disc. Somebody got the bargain of the year with that one. So much for the notion that stores can't set their own prices, if it even rang up at that price.

My store has Killer Klowns and Major Steel 4k steelbooks behind the glass cases. They had The Crow Steelbook up front with the new releases. Sadly the spot was empty.

Does anyone know if the Dune: Part Two 4K steelbook will be in (Walmart) stores on Tuesday?

When I went looking for The Crow 4K steelbook yesterday, I also asked the Walmart employees to check the new releases inventory for this upcoming Tuesday, May 14th.

None of them saw any Dune: Part Two steelbooks. They said they only saw the regular DVD, blu ray, and 4K versions in the boxes for next week.

I wonder if this will be like other recent WB titles distributed by SDS where it never shows up in stores.

Anything with “Site Merchandise” in the description like that film was is a price set at the local store.

Not sure if it'll be in stores; maybe some stores? I just got my copy via pre-order today. If you have trouble finding it, I got an extra copy.

Went to a store that had a $5 bin, but it was half full with some old bin titles. I'd hate to guess the last time that thing had been reset, well over a year I would say.

But they did have a copy of the Oppenheimer 4K Steelbook. I passed it up numerous times when they were first stocked, but they have really dried up. I was worried that this was a beat up return so I looked it over the best I could.

And... It's in absolutely immaculate condition. I've never seen a Steelbook in such good condition. Not a ding, not a nick, not a scratch.

I didn't know it was possible to get a Steelbook without at least one flaw!

I was at Walmart yesterday and I found a copy of

in the $5 bin. I was pretty sure it wasn't actually $5 so I went to the associate in the electronics section and asked them to scan it for me. When she did, it came up $24.99. However, she noticed that the plastic wrap was partially ripped (not by me) and said (without me even asking) that she would sell it to me for $5 because it was "damaged." Other than that, nothing but a pile of DVD's.

The steelbook endcap is getting a refresh this week. It includes The Crow exclusive, Red 1&2, Killer Klowns and some other new ones so be on the lookout this week for that.

My Walmart actually had a nice refresh on their steels. New ones included: Rambo 1st & Last. Mad Max Fury Road, Red 1&2, and the 1st Dune.
No Dune Part 2 steelbook though.
