This movie scared the crap out of me, doubt it's one I'll be randomly watching a lot really. If I had known it would be this scary, I wouldn't have gotten it. I doubt CZAR will ever see it since it's in Spanish so you have to watch it with subtitles.
Undoubtedly, one of the top 10 horror films of all-time, although it's not truly a horror movie. Atmospheric? Just a tad.

On a sidenote for anyone that has seen this film, does anyone know who the chick was that was

Got Em!!
She looked, uh....familiar. I should say no more. I had fun with that flick, too. I guess a sequel is on the way.

Saw your Expendables post...did you happen to see the A-Team yet?

I'd be very surprised if you didn't get a slip with your copy, whenever you end up buying it. When I bought my copy at Best Buy a few weeks ago, they still had all of their copies with slips on them. Granted I think they were still from their initial shipment since they always seemed to have plenty of them, but I don't think Lionsgate stops making the slips as quickly as some studios. I can't guarantee it of course, but my guess is that Amazon still has copies with slipcovers.
Yea I am gonna look into it for sure but I have to either have a steel or a slip haha. Got Em!!

I completely agree. I was so frightened I felt like a child again. How often can you say that?

I saw The Sea Inside a few weeks ago I forgot to tell you. Really good movie. Thanks for the recommendation!

Well 2.5/5 is my first level of actual dislike and it was still above that, so I didn't dislike it, I think "disappointed" is a much better description of my feelings toward it.

Plot Holes:
[Show spoiler]if memory serves me correctly, and I've seen the movie twice for what it's worth, the statement of "we pulled a fingerprint from the van" was false and simply used as an interrogation technique. However, let's say it wasn't false and that they actually did find a fingerprint. That may or may not provide probable cause to search his residence. A fingerprint, without more, would almost definitely not provide probable cause. Reasonable suspicion, yes, but that's a lesser standard and not good enough. Of course, it depends on the judge, but I digress.

As for DWI girl, that's looking too much into it. Would they have attempted to question her? Probably, but that doesn't mean she'd talk (at that point). She only talked when Affleck made it clear that he was done with her and that he wanted to take someone else with him. If they subpoena'd her they might have more success, but that's a different story. It's also highly likely that she'd want an attorney and invoke her right to counsel.

Don't try to argue the legal world with me, especially when I do criminal law!

Bad Guys: I don't disagree with you at all. I agree in full, although the film still worked for me. Jem was shockingly likeable, in a cruel way. Affleck was somewhat likeable as well. I would've preferred more moral ambiguity instead of the tagline you mention, but it still worked for me. The fact that it didn't for you is completely valid and I don't blame you at all!

DWI girl most likely would have talked. And thats why they would have talked to her immediately. She was a major asset to breaking the case and would have been exploited pronto. They had her nailed as a drug transporter and that is massive leverage to squeeze her. "Look Missy, you give us the scoop or we toss you in PRISON for many years and you lose your child." Done! She'd squeal like a pig. They didnt even need the necklace angle. The whole scene where we see Hamm talk to her in the bar was absolutely perfect. The problem was, if the film was realistic, that conversation would have taken place immediately after he briefed his team in the beginning of the movie.

IF the fingerprint was real, it would be enough. It was the print of the lead suspect and found in the vehicle used during the violent felony. A judge would grant it.

You (should) and I both know that when a big city such as Boston, LA, NY, Philly, Chicago, etc is being subjected to repeated fully automatic gunfire in the streets, significant action will be taken. When citizens and financial institutions of a large metropolis like that are victims of "war" acts, obtaining a search warrant is no problem. That kind of stuff just doesnt get tolerated.

The required evidence to support probable cause will be "found" by Law Enforcement.

I have never worn a badge, however, my uncle (essentially my older brother by way of age difference and family dynamics) was privately contracted by the FBI to write their Training Manuals as well as their Investigation Procedural Manuals after he retired (Lieutenant) from the LAPD where his final assignment was as an instructor for Major CSI Detectives. Many years ago, I spent some time with him conducting undercover surveillance photography for LAPD. That was really fun.

I have never taken a Bar Exam, however, I was employed by a Law Firm in Orange County (Anaheim) California from 2001 - 2005 and spent many an evening assisting in strategy development with the Partners.

My younger cousin, after resigning from his Assistant District Attorney (undefeated ) position for Clark County NV (Las Vegas) moved here (Coeur d' Alene) to enter private practice. After four years, he left that Firm (after being named a Partner) last March when he was chosen as a Magistrate Judge for the County.

For 35+ years I have had many interesting dinner conversations. The Puppet family has been around criminal law for quite some time and Squid couldnt help be exposed to many of its intricacies. Therefore, while I am absolutely not academically qualified to argue criminal law with you, I do believe that I am not too far removed to debate this case film.

The more I think about it, the more cliches I find too. Near the end when Claire tips off Doug with the "Sunny Day" line on the phone was too much, too sentimental. Then Hamm realizes (because of the cloudy sky) that she did that and Doug isnt coming, yet does nothing to Claire. Huh? She's made herself an accomplice right there. Plus, the money in the Garden was a bit much.

I am glad you liked it, and I had fun watching it too. But the more I think about it, it just seems too much like a far fetched caper film. The production was just so damn solid that we tend to get caught up in it all. I did LOVE the costumes they wore and the robberies were awesome. And its hard to knock a film with excellent car chases with machine guns a' blazing.

As always, arguing with a smile,

Your Pal, Squiddly

Its a Mexican on land.

Seriously, its a twisted little time travel movie where the protagonist tries to change the outcome of events that have already set in motion. He accidentally enters a LOOP () and tries to navigate his way home. Some of the people () he has to deal with just dont want to cooperate, so he has to do what he has to do.

Worth a watch as a mild headscratcher.

Spanish with English subtitles.

Next greatest movie borrowed from a library: “Män Som Hatar Kvinnor,” aka “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.”

I recently read up on the original author in the Rolling Stone magazine; Stieg Larsson led an interesting life as a journalist battling violent perpetrators of hate crimes. He had a thing for old-fashioned detective stories, and he found violence toward women abhorrent. He also had some death threats in his time. But like most great writers, his work has become phenomenally popular only after his untimely passing.

A lot of Stieg’s life seems to be poured into this story, for it is the tale of an activist journalist uncovering a mystery involving women brutally killed by radicals. Combined with one totally radical hacker chick in leather with a dragon tattoo, the characters have a fairly interesting life of their own. The whole mystery plot seemed a little weak to start with, but it came together fairly well with some unexpected twists and turns. There are some brutal parts throughout, upping the tension very well. It is definitely a story worth telling.

As a film, it’s not bad. Photography is pretty solid, but I feel that the few other Swedish films I’ve seen are better. Acting is great throughout; Noomi Rapace is perfect as the title character, and the rest of the cast is swell. Writing seems okay. Production value is okay. Music is okay.

4/5 (entertainment: 4/5, story: 4.5/5, film: 4/5)

Recommendation: Yes. If you can handle subtitles.
