Thanks to the Criterion Channel, I have rediscovered my love for Agnes Varda….and in turn discovered that her films were never given the Blu-Ray treatment by Criterion?!!? I'm shocked I tell you.

I do see there is an 8-film UK set that might be worth checking...but really Criterion..really? Shocked I tell you!!

That Arrow announcement actually inspired my guess. Would region free indicate that a stateside release may not necessarily happen?

I'm feeling good about DO THE RIGHT THING because it's the 30th anniversary, there's the BN sale in July (probably), and it'll be hot as blazes out.

Does anyone check Criterion's releases to see what other movies they have by the same director? I didn't make it a point until recently to check if I have all the movies by certain directors particularly the Japanese ones like KON ICHIKAWA which I thought I had all or have in the wishlist until I discovered Fires on the Plain. I am never going to catch up on what I want in my collection if I keep finding more from Criterion that I want.

No, but it is a Sony title and if Criterion has licensed the US rights they almost always get the UK rights as well as Sony handles their UK releases.

Fires on the Plain is one of my favorite films and my most wanted upgrade. After the remake a few years ago I'm hoping it'll be soon. I'm also hoping Criterion can get the rights to more Ichikawa and Shohei Imamura movies.

That's my monthly release want, an entire month of just Japanese films. I'll take Black Rain, Samurai Rebellion, Fires on the Plain, Osaka Elegy and (name your missing Kurosawa film here) thank you!

Thank you for this. The type is a bit small to read on my phone, but next time I load up my laptop, I’ll definitely be reading it.

Do you know how to download the Criterion Channel app on the fire stick? I tried searching for it but it doesn’t appear.

Not sure if it is the same slight frustration I had with Roku at the time (I had to look at the recently available apps to find it at first), but try search with 'The' at the beginning.

I just started typing C-R-I-T-E...by the time it got to there it showed up in the listings below. I have the new 4K stick, but from what I can tell, the search function seems the same as my older Fire stick.

Did the same and it appeared on the search engine but when I press it, the app doesn't appear just a bunch of movie recommendations.

Make sure you choose "Criterion Channel" .You will get a lot of options when you get to that point of the spelling, including "Criterion Collection", "Criterion Collection Amazon Video", "Criterion"...and so forth. Hope that helps.

I'd take all of those!

Fire on the Plain is a personal favorite and really wish we had an upgrade already. I'm actually pretty surprised that they haven't upgrade the Human Condition Trilogy.

Also, wish they would release Hunter in the Dark already. One of my personal favorites of all time.

Still thinking about Hunter in the Dark. Nearing 10 since they acquired the rights to one one of the best Japanese films of all time. They even have it in HD. Not only does it star Tatsuya Nakadai, but Sonny Chiba as well in what I would call Hideo Gosha's masterpiece of his masterpieces. (he's done quite a few good films!) I still need help so if anyone could suggest the title to Criterion it would be really appreciated.

suggestions@criterion.com would be the e-mail. I've always wondered how much it costs Criterion to release a film as this is something I would contribute as much as I could. Such an amazing film.

Will it play on the Channel? It seems weird they've not released it since they have it in HD.

Any recommendations as to which Roku to buy? I'd prefer to get the cheapest one that will do the job. I don't care about playing games or anything like that. I appreciate any advice you guys and gals can provide. Thanks.
I think you'll likely be fine with any one of them. I have a basic Roku streaming stick from 2016 and it works great and I also have an even older Roku (2013) which also works perfectly.
