But the extra scrutiny of 65mm doesn't flatter the VFX, which often stand out in a bad way (less so in 3D). Didn't know this was finished in 2K, I honestly don't get the point of doing that if you're shooting film and 4K-at-home is right around the corner...
It's all about money and 4K or higher scanners are pricey. Other than Sony the major studios mainly have 2K scanning equipment or so I have read. Then there's the fact that most studios, little or big, still render VFX at 2K.

Nor do I, but when the final result ends up looking as "digital" as this does (haven't seen it yet on disc, mind) I really do wonder why they bother.
I haven't seen the film and have little desire to see it but the screenshots at least look gorgeous and inviting - no digital or ugly modern movie look about them. Almost make me want to give the film a chance.

That may well have been true 10 years ago - when Sony really were at the forefront of this 4K malarkey - but not now, as >2K oversampling is done as a matter of course when preparing a 2K DI from a film source. Besides, you're overlooking the elephant in the room: 3D. Because of the added expense of finishing in that format and the lack of 4K 3D in either home or theatrical specs, most studios will only do a 2K DI if it's getting a 3D release. The exception is of course Sony, who've prepared several 4K 2D finishes to go with their 2K 3D versions.

It doesn't come with a sandwich or a love you note from mom so I'd pass on the lunchbox.

Ehhhh... I thought JW looked much more like film than something like Avengers AoU. Especially the jungle footage, which had really healthy grain and a grungy look to some degree. It was definitely a stunner on BD that really impressed me, compared to AoU which looked much more flat (IMO).

Fair enough, but as I'm sure you know Ultron was shot on digital which is why it looks more digital. Like I said, only seen JW the once but for all the talk about film this, film that, I was distinctly unimpressed with the visuals. Not gonna get the BD until it's going for buttons though, not because I'm cheap but because the film's pretty poor IMO. I'll put it on my "Geoff, you really should know better" shelf where the current alumni include Star Trek Into Darkness and San Andreas.

Amusing when someone dislikes a film so much but is still going to purchase it. Makes your opinion laughable at best.

If you mean the Compendium, yes, but it wasn't rare and it wasn't expensive at the time. It still isn't actually: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Star-Trek-Co.../dp/B00LCAD24S
