2/5
Before I ever watched this film I didnt think I would like it either but its my 2nd favorite film in the series after part two. That Tokyo atmosphere was cool and I was just pleasantly surprised by the film. I know most dont like it because it doesnt have any of the original actors but that didnt bother me. Got Em!!

I felt the opposite about the Tokyo setting; I didn't like it. Or the music used for the film. Or the characters (again, besides Han). Lucas Black makes Paul Walker look much better

I don't like that it was a Fast and Furious movie without the main characters of the franchise (besides the cameo), but as its own stand alone movie I still don't like it.

The 2/5 is as its own film, as a Fast & Furious movie I'd give it a 1/5.

I have to disagree with you about the lead girl too.

She was definitely nice to look at but not "beyond gorgeous"
[Show spoiler]

If anyone in the series gets that its Brewster in Fast & Furious

Oh I wasnt comparing her to Jordana but u are right Jordana is a dime piece. I do think it is very close though. Regardless I can look at both of them all day long lol. But lets take it further......the best chick in the Fast and Furious franchise is Eva Mendes in part two. She trumps both Nathlie & Jordana. Do u agree? Got Em!!

Entertaining film, but it's nomination at the Golden Globes was even more suspect than the ones dished out to The Tourist. Not that surprising that the only other nominations it received were from the Satellite Awards.

I've seen a few people say they highly enjoyed this movie, some say they didn't like it and some say it was okay. Sign me u p for the third group.

I didn't dislike the film, but it wasn't that good.

I really liked the idea of the film. The basic premise of "Push the button, get $1 million, but someone in the world will die" could have made for some great morality exploration in the characters and possible division between the wife and the husband. But we didn't get that. I was hoping for half of the film or so to be devoted to deciding to push the button or not and then the rest to the consequences, but instead it was
[Show spoiler]much more heavy on the aftermath of them pushing the button.

Still, what we got wasn't really bad. It wasn't what I was expecting/hoping for and wasn't really that interesting though. There were some serious twists and turns there (not plot surprises but more like, "wait, what the hell?") that took the movie farther and farther "out there."

Frank Langella and James Marsden were fine in their roles, but nothing really noteworthy.

Diaz on the other hand, I was
[Show spoiler]SO HAPPY when she got shot.
I hated her in this movie so much. Her voice was incredibly annoying to me and her performance, I thought, was pretty bad.

I don't feel cheated out of my two hours, but I do feel underwhelmed with what I got.

Rating - 3.25/5

[Show spoiler]I think Bearcat said he sensed a 3.25/5 coming, good call
haha i think that's what i guessed as well. i'm good
i also hated the accent Diaz had. hell, everyone i know that's seen it says, as soon as it ends, "that accent was terrible" and it was. as well as incredibly pointless lol.

glad you enjoyed it to an extent and didn't hate it

It doesn't happen that often for me either, unless you count DVD's I rent to watch with the family. The majority of the Blu-rays I rent from Netflix rarely turn into purchases. I might end up buying Machete, but the last and only one I remember actually buying after renting it on Blu-ray from Netflix is Shoot 'Em Up.

Well, somebody rented it and you watched it. Close enough.

What the hell did I just watch?

Really! What genre was that? Fantasy/Rom-Com/Video Game/Super hero/Martial Arts/Teen Angst/Action/Adventure?????

Who cares?!?!?!

Every aspect of this movie was ridiculous, odd, quirky and campy. And it worked for me.

Short and sweet. The (many) fight scenes alone are worth the price of admission. They are better choreographed, executed, filmed and EDITED than actual dedicated action movies. Great stuff.

Plenty of great humor. Probably need to see it a few times to catch all the gags.

Film 4/5
PQ 4.25/5
AQ 4.5/5

Lots of fun. Check it out.

While I would probably give the film and the AQ another half a point each, I completely agree with your review. It was one of the biggest surprises for me of last year, behind probably only Kick-Ass in that regard.

I cant find words to match Riffs, so I'll just describe it as Requiem for a Nightmare. Yes, it was that intense, and an even more disturbing journey. To my surprise, I was fightened more frequently and more deeply than during the best horror films. I had my knees to my chest and covered myself with my coat like a child protects himself in bed when he is afraid. I felt like I was in danger. Aronofsky yo-yos between scenes of intensity and scenes where a viewer can recover and breath. As the story advances, the (needed) restful gaps between the intense scenes become briefer and less frequent. All culminating to a point where I almost couldnt handle the constant barage, the uninterupted onslaught of insanity being shoveled onto my emotional well being. I felt fragile and damaged by the end. I cried, yet I felt a sense of freedom and release. If only to have made my escape.

Technically, I noticed dozens of small and subtle things effectively employed simply to keep me disturbed.

The score was unreal. Imagine wading ankle deep in a river swollen to capacity by rains and melting snow. It's raging and violent. It's a living thing, a beast. Now wade in to your knees. Take a few more steps...and it takes you. It owns you. It engulfs you and makes you a part of it. You can paddle and kick all you want, but its futile. You are at the mercy of its rage, and it WILL abuse you. It will drag you and heave like a ragdoll. It will bring you to near death, and then allow you another moment of hope. Yes, that is what the score did to me. It is Ballet afterall.

Portman? During the final 15 minutes something happened. Something foriegn occupied Portmans body. Not the character, but Portman herself. When the character "Let go", Portman simultaneously became something beyond an actress in a role. She went beyond an actress portraying and actress. She became something so haunting that I cant even put my finger on it. She wasnt Natalie any longer.

I missed my off-ramp on the drive home. At the next off-ramp I turned the wrong way. I felt disoriented. I still do.

I shed a few more tears when I got home too. It makes me so happy that there are still people like Aronofsky who CARE so much about their final product. You just cant make a film like this without being monumentally passionate, and it shows.

5/5
I found it very moving. The music was a vital component. I loved the camera work, placing you in Portman's shoes.

It was disturbing in places, but I won't attempt to improve upon what you have already said.

I still rate The King's Speech slightly above it, but Portman should win best actress with ease this year. She looked like a ballet dancer and acted like a woman possessed.

Overall 4.5/5
