That would be awesome if Criterion could rescue the film from what I believe is music licensing hell.

Man, I just bought this on DVD. Only paid $27 so I guess I can sell it for a small profit before the blu rays come out (if they do).

Got Bigger Than Life for about $14 today with the 25% coupon. Going to pick up either Paris, Texas or Chungking Express this weekend too. Hmph, toughie.

Yes, it is a glued-on sheet, much like what they do for most/all(?) digibooks. I don't know why though; I preferred the glued-on sheet for being a little more attractive, but it ain't no thing.

I don't remember any other Criterion being like this.

I thought the same thing. I was looking at the Wes Anderson Criterions, and they had this strange crumpled up plastic-wrapping. I didn't think much of it, though. Shitty wrapping for shitty films. ZING!

Come on! How about the people who want to talk about the upcoming Charlie Chaplin release when there are so many unrelated posts in between??

I don't like it one bit.

I really wish for The Great Dictator to be released soon!
Any other film by C.C would be fine by me though.

My final orders are.

1) Seven Samurai
2) The Thin Red Line
3) The Seventh Seal
4) Modern times.

For 100$ total cfor 4 Criterions cant go wrong.
Now I would go and exchange The Seventh Seal with Yojimbo/Sanjuro, as they have great replay value, whereas The Seventh Seal doesn't.

It's a great film, but for me it has zero replay value.

Yojimbo/Sanjuro are witty, touching, smart....that's the way to go IMO.

Am I the only Wong Kar Wai/Christopher Doyle fan that thinks Chungking Express sucks?

My back sheet wasn't glued on, so it came off loosely after I took the cellophane off. Which is actually much nicer than gluing it on IMO.

The back sheet is basically a big block of text...the way most Criterion backs are. Underneath that is an edited down version. The exact same plot summery, the little Criterion Collection blurb on the lower right hand side, and special features list. What is missing (probably because they wanted the artwork to pop and not be completely covered by text) is the normal legal info (a full paragraph of Fox Searchlight Pictures copyright stuff, and those little icons at the very bottom that give everything from the movie rating to the anti-piracy warning), the barcode, and--oddly--the blurb on the right-hand side that gives movie length/year/etc.

I just slipped the loose back sheet inbetween the plastic since it is just the right size to fit. Initially I had it so that I could see it through the clear plastic of the case when I opened it (and removed the blu-ray), then I decided I preferred the general uniformity and put it so it was visible from the outside.

I'd personally go with Paris, Texas...even if some people might consider it to be trash.

OK...LET'S TALK CHAPLIN!

I'm very happy about Modern Times, though personally, I'd like to have seen either "The Kid" or "City Lights" released first, as these two films never fail to get me all weepy. Just stellar performances in both films...most especially a VERY young Jackie Coogan.

RIP Uncle Fester...

Please.

Please!

PLEASE!!!

Totally agree!
I remain stunned that it is not out yet.

I went on Urban Dictionary and found 3 different meanings. The one that starts with Flipping makes the most sense in this scenario, though. As much as I'd love to have that, I would infinitely prefer Brazil. It's one of my favorite movies of all time.

Bela Tarr's Werkmeister Harmonies...would be AMAZING. The only release I know of is a crappy non-anamorphic DVD. PLEASE RELEASE THIS.

Also Body Double!

That makes no sense. All of the in-studio skits (65-75% of the show) were shot on (SD PAL) video; only the location segments were shot on film.
