Shortly after it came out, with its storyline sympathetic to Native Americans, the mini-series Lonesome Dove came out with an exact opposite view. An MD I worked with at the time told me if I wanted to see how the Indians really were like, watch Lonesome Dove. Don't know if that's true, but have yet to see Lonesome Dove.

I plan to see it down the road especially if it comes on blu. I dont know if it is even on blu? I dont think so. Got Em!!

I will always root for the underdog, especially when the opponent is an evil corporation trying to hurt the innocent natives. In Avatar, the mercenaries had too much technology and firepower to be defeated by bows and arrows IMO.

Czar, you should rent Dances With Wolves. You will probably be bored and say to yourself "WTF... I have already seen this".

Well it was more to it then just bows & arrows.
[Show spoiler]They were getting destroyed until they got aerial and started taking over ships and using grenades actually. Once they destroyed the main 2 or so big ships and had the fight on the ground they lost any advantage they had. I thought how it tooks place it was very believeable. Not to mention when finally the whole Pandora came together including the animals.

[Show spoiler]Guns firing 1500 rounds per minute X 6 guns per craft + each soldier with fully automatic weapons vs one-arrow-at-a-time. Your single arrow has an accurate range of 50 yards and my THOUSANDS of bullets have an accurate range of 1000 yards. I'll sit far enough away that your arrowas cant reach me and I will blow the ever-lovin shit out of you all day long. The battle was a smooch to give viewers a happy Hollywood ending. FAKE as hell.

Tru but the whole battle didnt go that way.
[Show spoiler]Like I said once they got aerial then those guns shots didnt mean jack. U had 10 foot Avatars taking over ships jumpin on them and smacking up all the soldiers aboard not to mention Jake taking out to the two big ships with grenades and to me once the 2 big ships were dismantled thats when things changed. But like u were saying in the beginning they were blowing shitz up but when u have a whole village and they all can fly and get close up and change up your tactics things can change. And the attack before the final, it happened exactly as u said, guns blowing up shitz and they were all on the ground helpless as they were not ready for the attack as they were for the final battle.
Just my take man. Again we can agree to disagree on this one. Tactics played a big part in how the battle was won. Got Em!!

Having more firepower doesnt matter much if your on a different land youve never seen before & you dont have a gameplan set up..Just jumping out spraying everything doesnt always work...If you go back in history there are alot of battles that was won by the side that had the least men...or least technology...in real life...something that jumps to my mind..NO its not real life...but a movie....is 300....300 soldiers took on all that and i never really heard anyone question it...because if you watch the movie they was smart and had a gameplan....no matter what the numbers if not played right you can still lose.

AVATAR

movie-- 4.0 out of 5.0 once again, I think people are expecting wayyy too much from this flick. Yes, it could have been trimmed by 20 minutes or so, yes the plot has similarities to other films. It was still very entertaining and
stunning visually.

Blu-ray-- 5.0 out of 5.0 if you have even a decent system, you are doing yourself a disservice by not owning this because it is THE reference PQ blu!

no kidding, I can't believe they actually used the term shock and awe in Avatar. I really would have thought that they would have tried to be a little original.

Actually Lonesome Dove the miniseries aired Feb 1989 ( and was based on a book published in 1985) prior to Dances with Wolves which didn't come out till Nov 1990.

When I was watching Avatar I wasn't think specifically of Dances, although I have seen it a bunch of times and own the movie. I'm just tired of the standard Hollywood evil white people vs the noble savage stereotype and also the typical vilification of the military and corporations. It would nice to actually see a movie where both sides are seen as the complex entities they are instead of one dimensional stereotypes.

I did think the acting was quite good though, especially by the man that played Jake.

APOCALYPTO

Movie 4
PQ 5
AQ 5
Overall 4.5

The movie was pretty good never-mind that this is a reference disc for sure. I like how Mel Gibson has target history, make me lean more toward his movies. Especially after The Passion of the Christ. Very good films with Eye and Ear candy. Solid storyline filled with suspense and action but not guns and cannons more like a forest war. One man against many . Recommended.

By the way, I agree with you, Czar, in regards to the final battle. Call me crazy, laugh all you want, but I'll just agree to disagree as well (with Squid).

I perosnally can understand why the glass wasn't bulletproof considering the cost of transporitng items to and from pandora. They weren't there or equiped to make an assault.

The Blind Side 6/10

Great film to watch with the family, but everything was a bit too perfect for me. Seemed like Hollywood took alot of liberties with this true story. Not worthy of it's Best Picture nom but I thought Sandra did a good job.

American Son - This was actually a pretty good film starring Nick Cannon who returns from Marine training for the holidays and has to deal with the fact that he has to go to Iraq! Very deep film and Nick did a pretty good job. I like Nick. He isnt a great actor or anything but I like his demeanor and his personality on and off the camera. Melonie Diaz is a cutie also. Overall 3.5/5 Got Em!!
