I had Rambo 1 on VHS Digitally remastered with a S-VHS player and 3 Speaker Surround. Yep the 4K is virtually the same in a lot of ways. I know what you mean bro. This 5.1 DTS and 4K is just a little clearer in audio and visuals actually guys. It's barely better imho too, but it is ever so slightly. It's just a low budget action film , but Stallone and the stunts made this thing feel amazing to watch...LOL @ people with bad systems in the 90's

So after seeing posts by Pyoko regarding potential color space conversion issues on some other films, and reading about how switching the display setting to DCI-P3 might improve them somewhat, I decided to try this (switching Color Space from Auto to DCI) briefly on First Blood and it definitely toned down the green tint that permeates the film.
It also generally desaturated the image, and seemed to shift red tones somewhat, a good example being when Rambo is in the mine with his flaming knife stuck in the wall, on the Auto setting the image has a significant red cast to it, whereas switching to the DCI setting gives it a more even orange tone, making the Auto image look somewhat overblown in the reds in comparison. The shift in the reds is apparent throughout in faces as well. Interested to hear if anyone has any input on this, or if I'm extrapolating too much here. ![]() |

Does the 4K UHD of First Blood present any really noticeable difference in the colours from the restored StudioCanal Blu-ray release? I've had a look at some caps of the film, but that's not always the best way to tell.
To me, the picture on the Blu-ray is impressive, something especially evident in the clarity of the metallic blue colour of the sheriff's police car and the detail in the greens and browns of the trees and foliage in the central chase sequence. I'll likely end up getting the 4K UHD disc anyway as it's a film I watch often. But for the moment I think the SC Blu-ray release is a really good one. |

Those tantilizing VHS samples aside, I am quite satisfied with the 4K UHD releases outside of the futzed up 5.1 tracks. I ended up rebuying the first "remastered" Studio Canal Blu-Rays (the ones that never ended up being released in the U.S.) with the 2.0 audio and it makes a big difference on the first two movies, the 5.1 tracks send so much into the center channel and dial back the entire dynamic range. Maybe someone will do a reissue of the UHDs at some point and include the original 2.0 surround mixes...just too bad they didn't bother here.

Can anyone please tell me if First Blood, First Blood 2 and Rambo 3 by Studio Canal having the same transfers on 4k as Lionsgate? Lionsgate is Region A locked so I won't be able to see "special features" so please confirm.
Also there is one 4k trilogy being sold on amazon from german I think which is said to be uncut versions. Are the Studiocanal and Lionsgate are uncut versions too? Please help. |

Are they not different encodes? I read somewhere on this forum that the black levels were better on the Eagle release.

Yes the encode are not the best (especially on First Blood) but the transfers are good (being Rambo II my favorite one).

Thanks guys for the confirmation. I am confused about this German release by studio canal. Its Rated 18 and said to be uncut on box art while the studio canal releaser for UK has 15 rating on cover art. Are they both same or German version has additional footage which is chopped off in Studio Canal UK individual 4k releases of Rambo trilogy? Can anyone please confirm?
