Your feelings (feeling excited that you got this title so early, and then coming in here to post/humblebrag about it to feel special) are what started this whole thing in the first place.

You keep talking about boutiques and "the small guys" as if it only refers to the retailer. FCE themselves are very much a boutique operation, and the definition of "the small guys". What about what they want? Do they not have the right to request their titles be released on the release date that they've chosen?

And just because some smaller retailers let stuff go early, does not mean that they should or were ever supposed to. There's also a difference between a retailer shipping your item a week ahead of release so you get it a couple days early (which, you're right, is perfectly normal), and this egregious 2+ weeks early nonsense. I used to snag the occasional album or movie from indie record stores before release date, and they stopped doing it years ago because they got their wrists slapped by the labels for breaking street dates.

You and Powell's entitlement is showing, and your arrogance in particular is off the charts. And yes, you probably did get Orbit in trouble for coming in here snitching. No harm in mentioning them now since the damage is done, and the page has been removed from their site. You also put an extra spotlight on Mike/Grindhouse, so congrats on that too, genius

Maybe keep it to yourself next time, or at least leave names out of it.

Why is the one person here so bent out of shape?!

Jon is cool, he's inviting people to a party where he'll DJ at the end of the month. He's making moves and selling discs and OrbitDVD is part of the plan. A ton of people preordered through them and the street date is way down on the totem pole of priority. Lighten up!

I have many FCE releases, all with slipcover. I don't want that to change. I have bought them all from the VS site, but, as I'm sure you all know, Party Girl is not on it for some reason.

Is there any way of knowing if you will get a slip from the smaller boutique sellers? As pointed out earlier, the Orbit listing is down. But how about from Bull Moose? Diabolik? There is no mention of a slipcover in their listings.

Boutique sellers have been pretty good about listing 'with slip' around the price of $27.99 or more. If a listing price (say on Amazon) is for $21 or below, I'd go with no slipcover. Grindhouse and Orbit will list with slip if they have slips. Diabolik I'm not sure but I imagine they are similar.

But yeah I do agree it can get kind of confusing.

If you order from DiabolikDVD, OrbitDVD, or Grindhouse Video... you will get a slip as long as the listing says it has one.

For Diabolik... if it says "LE" in the listing... then you'll get the slip...

Orbit will say "w/Slip" in their listing title...

Grindhouse's listing will say "LIMITED EDITION" which means slip...

I can't speak to Bullmoose as I've probably only ordered from them once or twice over the years...

The reason Party Girl is not being sold on VS's site is because Fun City is now distributed by MVD rather than OCN.

It’s BS

Got my pre-order of Party Girl today, but I’m saving it for this weekend.

I’ve already pre-ordered Breathless thru VinSyn in my sub order

So that’s my last pre-order for a FCE title.
Lol the sheer entitlement of this post.

Whaa! I can’t get me disc a few days early! I’m never ordering from them again! Whaaaaa!

But one thing to keep in mind my friend... if you order from Amazon... you're not guaranteed a slip... you will also have your item shipped in a bubble mailer... so if it does come with a slip... it will probably be pretty banged up.
Then they really need to remove the "(Limited Edition)" from the product name, as that certainly implies you do.

Completely agree on Amazon's absolute garbage mailers. Those jackasses ship me everything from a single disc, right up to the Lukas Moodysson Collection set in those pieces of no protection offering trash.

A release party for a bluray?! That has to be a first! No wonder FCE jumped ship from OCN. Justin LL probably was all like “no parties, just discs” and Jah was all like “fine, I’ll go out on my own and have as many release parties as I want!” and the rest is history in the making.

It's not entitlement... it's an unsaid benefit of pre-ordering through boutique shops. And it's a fair point.

It's no secret that it costs more to order a film through any said small, indie boutique.

But, what you pay for - you get... mint product that arrives in a box (no bubble mailers)... guaranteed slipcovers... folks who are very aware of collector's wants and cater to that... selection you won't find on a larger store site (especially imports)... not having your package get lost in a plethora of other non-related orders... and yes - possibly getting the release a little early.

These are all reasons why paying a few bucks more to order from boutiques is worth it (to me and others). Plus, you are supporting small business which is also important to me (and I'm sure important to many others on here).

And so... when something like this occurs... it kind of affect the benefit of what you pay extra for...

So no... not at all "entitled"... just wanting what you pay extra for... and not wanting to see the boutique lose any edge they have over the big box stores.

I didn't realize that Amazon had the term "Limited Edition" attached to their pre-order. Frankly, ordering an FCE title from Amazon never even occurred to me as a viable option - so I honestly have never seen the pre-order listing. But, going from my experience - I don't trust Amazon as far as I can throw them. They have miss-labeled listings many times before.

In my experience, the best way to ensure you will receive a slipcover for any release is to order through a boutique. Yes, it costs more than Amazon - but (for all the reasons listed above) it's the best way for discerning collectors to get releases with all the bells and whistles in the best condition possible - hands down.

Thanks for getting the point of my post.

I was stating how it hurts the indie labels, and only benefits amazon.

I don't see what the big deal is. It's not like someone who orders from a smaller company is suddenly going to start ordering from Amazon just because a smaller company now has to sit on shipping until street date. Is anyone that cares about a title from a boutique label who also wants slipcover to come in good condition going to take a chance and order from a company that throws it in a bag haphazardly and ships it with thousands of other items stacked on top of it? That said, if the seller has been sent stock for a bunch of preorders they can fill, why wait? The units have already been sold via pre-orders. This whole thing seems like silly micromanagement.

I purchased 'Party Girl' from Amazon. Also purchased Jeremy (non-slip). But every other release has been from VS. Sometimes it makes sense to purchase from Amazon. In this case it did to me.

I admit that I still order from Amazon on occasion...

But usually it's Shout Factory or Criterion... since both of those labels in the last 2 years have been plagued by out-of-the-box scratched discs...

It makes returning damaged goods for a replacement fast and easy.

I also use Amazon for Kino and WAC releases... unless Kino is having one of their countless sales... and I want enough to justify the free shipping tier...

But indie labels... boutiques are the way to go.

You’d think so but have you seen many lose their sh!t when amazon doesn’t get their BLUs delivered on release day…Same thing here, some might be more inclined to say, I don’t want to have to wait extra time not only to ship but then have to wait on mail delivery when I can for sure get it delivered on release day thru amazon. Now that isn’t me… but I can see it happening. That’s why I think it hurts the indie retailer and only helps amazon.

Keep in mind when they were with VinSyn like for I think their final OCN - Vin Syn Partner title, they don’t have hard street dates since they get out Sub orders etc and try to get them out as fast as possible. That’s why I didn’t see the big deal with Party Girl getting out copies early. To me its usually always good wors of mouth Unless it would contain errors (which I don’t expect from FCE)
