Disturbia 6/10

it's a decent thriller / pretty good film at times. not a whole lot of replay value, and there are numerous faults throughout the film (pacing, writing, some odd directing choices), but i still enjoy it quite a bit. however, not as much as the first time i saw it in theaters years ago (thus not alot of replay value, but then again, it is a "thriller" and they have that affect).

i think this is easily Shia's best role. although his range doesn't change very much from what he's played so far, but i think he had alot of emotion and the most depth yet here.

to me it feels like one of those films where the little nuances really start to add up
[Show spoiler]the first time he gets across the "line" the cops are there immediately, but then, after just trying to break into his neighbors house, they don't come because the cop is a prick and doesn't like the kid? kinda lame. and of course the standard "it's raining and stormy at the worst moment" is used to death

i've certainly seen a lot worse, but of course, there's alot better out there. definitely glad i only spent $10 on this film.

as a side note the PQ is pretty damn impressive, albeit you see the inside of a house at night most of the time, but aside from some soft coloring issues, i was surprised at how good it looked.

By the way, I agree with you, Czar, in regards to the final battle. Call me crazy, laugh all you want, but I'll just agree to disagree as well (with Squid).
If someone was shipping me off to war, and stood me in front of two tables, one with a mini-gun and one with a bow and arrows, I'd pick the mini-gun and the armour suit over the bow and arrow and the loincloth. Call me crazy.

And the guy in the Hurt Locker. In that brutal heat, I would disarm bombs wearing cargo shorts and flip-flops and Ray-Bans.

Where the Wild Things Are

Never read the book.
[Show spoiler] Didnt have time. I heard the damn thing is like six pages long and I just cant squeeze that into my schedule.

The movie was cool in an odd way. I didnt connect 100%, but I did care about Max and his life and his Mom. It may have been the mood I was in, or because I didnt have a rocky childhood like Max was having.

The costume/CGI stuff was pretty good and the voice work was cool too.

Film 4/5
AQ 4/5
PQ 4/5

The Uninvited 5/10

Not completely terrible, but still a lot worse than the original movie.

I enjoyed this.... never saw the original. I figured out the surprise ending pretty quickly (yeah, i saw THE SIXTH SENSE and see the clues!) I thought the movie had a pretty good mood throughout and visually is was a very good looking movie (and great blu-ray)

I'd rate it 3.0 out of 5.0 (good)

For me the original had more creepier and memorable scenes. Plus I didn't figure out the twist in the original. I gave it 8/10.

I might have enjoyed The Uninvited more if I had seen it first, but you never know.

CZAR: The name of the original is A Tale Of Two Sisters IMDB

Well, you are crazy, but Diesel already covered that.

Anyways, back to the arrows. You are forgetting how large those arrows actually are considering how big the Na'vi are. I might as well spoiler tag the rest since this will be talking about the movie now...
[Show spoiler]Earlier in the movie during the first battle, they were only shooting upward, which would make it nearly impossible to penetrate given the obvious physics involved. However, during the final battle when they were flying on the Ikran and diving, it was a completely different story. They were shooting downward and/or head-on then of course while flying, which would all create a lot more velocity. Given the size of the arrows, the Na'vi's strength, the velocity they would be traveling, and the fact that at least some were firing at point blank range, it is not that shocking that they would penetrate the glass of the cockpits of the regular helicopters. Especially considering they are also not just normal arrows.

I realize that is getting overly technical, but it makes sense.

All joking aside...I completely agree with you.

I think I even made that case in another thread about the piercing the windows topic.
