Exactly. This was stated during Philips CES conference. So far that's Walmart and Target...let's continue holding out hope for Best Buy or Circuit City. That truly would be a nail in the coffin.

INSIDERS: According to the Financial Times (link: http://www.ft.com/cms/s/8d56c2a8-bc8...0779fd2ac.html) Paramount does have a way out to get back to Blu-ray sooner rather than later.

"Universal has been the format’s biggest champion but it was tight lipped on Sunday about its next move. It was unclear whether the studios backing HD-DVD would change sides, although it is understood that Paramount has reserved the right to switch its backing to Blu-ray."

Anything you can add to this?

What is this about Walmart? Did I miss something Penton Man said?

I don't think there has been any information about Walmart, just Target

"About as close as a drunken sailor getting a date with Queen Elizabeth II, while yelling into the window of her carriage as it is passing by in a procession.
Please, spare me anymore after-the-fact internet intrigue"

Penton-man

Wasn't trying to start anything, just wanted some official smackdown of Vaughn fud.

I believe that our forum has the only Fox studio Executive anywhere on the internet as an Insider and once he gets here on a regular basis, I know that he will not refute this, if you ask him about it directly. Now…..what other people looking at things through red colored sunglasses may think……..that is a different matter.

Is that *revelation* getting some sour grapes traction over the internet ….in a coulda, woulda, shoulda………. red slant kind of way?
Guys, are you forgetting the four stones (i.e. Fox, Disney, Sony, Lionsgate) I talked about several weeks back in The Fifth Element post with the appropriate YouTube link and the blasting of HD DVD into smithereens at the end of the clip by Leeloo(WB)…….
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...4&postcount=63

If people care to dwell now on past history, I think some should be asking how irritated Toshiba is about a certain software company for abandoning them during the defining moment of the format war.
In keeping with your “flirting” theme, it was kinda like ………

Tosh………
”But you promised you would marry me and it turned out to be a one night stand.”

Software Company……..
“Wam, Bam………Thank You Mam…..It’s been swell but, marry into a family with packaged goods?,…… sorry you got the wrong impression”.

P.S.
In case any new members are asking….”Penton, how do you know this about Fox – I thought you only cut hair at Sony”.
Well, for the same reason I knew and predicted explicitly that Fox would be announcing a bunch of new Blu-ray titles just before IFA 2007 (when the studio hadn’t made any public statements whatsoever in the preceding months and people were *****in to me that Fox was MIA and they beseeched me to have Fox come out its foxhole to say something for Blu reassurance)…….check my old posts, it’s all there.
For full disclosure, I think I cut hair on the Fox studio lot that day.

It’s called a track record, not make believe.
But Blu-ray loves all new comers to the winning format.
Group hug to all new members and lurkers.
Thank you VERY much for this post.

Sorry to hear about that scare with your dog. Hope all is well.

That's great news! Major retailers going exclusive is almost as big as studios going exclusive.

I think those of us that have been reading your stuff here for some time knew this to be the case. The red side hasn't been right yet, why should they have any traction now?

I thank you much Penton for everything. I love the way you let us know what's going on without telling us what's going on, but really telling us (er, well, you know what I mean).

Glad to hear everything is good at home. I'm sure the final nail will not be long coming...

I think that to say a retailer has gone Blu-ray exclusive should mean just that.

For example Target never went Blu-ray exclusive the last time they did - if you see what I mean. You can still buy HD DVD movies at Target and on their website you can buy HD DVD players (and movies too).

So, for future reference, here's where I personally set the bar.

A retailer will have gone Blu-ray exclusive when:

1) Absolutely no HD DVD related products (hardware & software) can be found in any of the retailers B&M locations.

2) Absolutely no HD DVD related products can be found on the retailers website.

3) Blu-ray is clearly and strongly promoted as the one and only HD disc format.

Sorry to be so strict, but I happened to look up the word 'exclusive' and it was defined in a pretty clear way. I felt the Target exclusive thing from 2007 was more than a little bogus frankly.

I think the 2008 version is more likely to be true but let's see how things pan out in the next few weeks as retailers decide how to pull the plug on a format that consumers are going to be increasingly not wanting to buy into.

The Target thing in 2007 was never meant to be and was never outlined as "true exclusive." The deal was, Blu-ray endcaps in most stores, slightly expanded Blu-ray movie selection, and no HD DVD players in store. That was it. This version of exclusive should be the real deal as you outlined above.

When was the Wal-Mart announcement? Maybe yesterday afternoon here in Montrose, A truck drove right through the front doors and ended up in the electronics section, about halfway through the store, maybe the driver was delivering the note and couldn't believe what he was reading.

Target is the second largest retailer in the US. Only Wal-mart is larger. Who were you referring to?

The best thing that could happned when Hd Dvd does die will be for Toshiba to include Hd Dvd playback on their Blu-ray players. That way reds can seemlesly move into Blu-ray without starting over. As a purple i don't want to re buy my 17 Hd Dvd movies. These of coarse is less of a big deal for me as it is for reds. Hell my Blu-ray collection is older and a bit bigger than my Hd-dvd collection. But alot of buddies of mine on the Hd-dvd forum have collections in the hundreds. They need yo be taken care of.

Who honestly buys Hd movies at target. They don't give any shelf space to either. Every body I know either goes to circuit city Best Buy Or Amazon.

Thanks Penton-Man.

Of course, we all know how the red ants are going to spin this: "OMG! P-M admits Fox opened the window for Toshiba!!!"
